SWBFSpy VS GAMERANGER:
which one is better and why?
the pros and cons:

SWBFSpy has less lag
GameRanger has more people
SWBFSpy has more dedicated servers
GameRanger has a few servers (many PC servers) less dedicated ones

Greetings!!
As some of you may know, SWBF2 got an update on Steam and GoG.
The multiplayer is actually by GoG (Galaxy). This update broke GameRanger (even though GR is horrible) and it also made SWBFSpy (and GR) require another file in order for them to work - which is the OLD Shell.lvl file - besides the exe file for SWBFSpy and another exe file for GR)
In this video, I will be showing you how to fix both multiplayers (and how to also have GoG's multiplayer).
I will provide you the download links in the description to the multiplayers above.

Let's start with how to get SWBFSpy to work again;

Download the zip on http://Info.swbfspy.com/downloads.html (the link in RED)
rename your old BattlefrontII.exe to something else such as BattlefrontIIOriginal.exe or BattlefrontIIGOG.exe or whatever you want.
rename your old shell.lvl to something else as well.
add the new exe to GameData
add the new lvl file to Data _LVL_PC
launch the game

Now, GameRanger...

Download the exe file on swgo ( http://swgohome.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3614 )
rename your old BattlefrontII.exe to something else such as BattlefrontIIOriginal.exe or BattlefrontIIGOG.exe or whatever you want.
rename your old shell.lvl to something else as well.
add the new exe to GameData
add the new lvl file to Data _LVL_PC (download the file from SWBFSpy and use that shell.lvl)
go to GR, go to Options, find swbf2, click browse, find the exe in GameData (make sure it is the CORRECT location).
close the window
go to a server and join it

Now, how to switch back to GoG.

if you have SWBFSpy , you need rename the SWBFSpy shell and the exe file and rename your old/original ones back to their proper names. keep doing this for whenever you want to switch between them and play in both multiplayers.

if you have the swgo exe, do the above as well.

1.3 Patch that is compatible/functional with the GoG/Steam update

After the GoG/Steam update, ALL previous 1.3 patches DO NOT WORK
So, someone edited the 1.3 patch and uploaded it. Here is the Moddb link to it:

version r130 is the LATEST version of the 1.3 patch. make sure you're using that one.

GameMaster/GameShare death and rebirth; SWBFSPY

as some of you may know, the best multiplayer this game ever had is shutting down/has shutdown on June 1st 2016 (depending on what date it currently is when you are reading this)
there is an alternative. the SWBFGamers team have quickly started working on bringing it back themselves with the help of Kalle (GameShare founder) there is an exe file already and there are a few servers up on that multiplayer. this is the multiplayer my clan is/will be using the most also.
this is far better than any other multiplayer such as GameRanger and Tunngle and Hamachi and others.

For swbfspy, alternatively, you could make a copy of your original exe file and hex edit it as shown here in this video of one of the creators of the swbfspy multiplayer/exe files:

though, if you're not very good at hex editing, I suggest downloading the exe file either at: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=693147305 (guide by a friend of mine) or here at their website: http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=10570.0
however, you need to register (which is free) to access the files, but don't worry, there are no viruses and it's one of the biggest swbf2 and swbf1 communities out there.

SWBFSpy has less lag
GameRanger has more people
SWBFSpy has better dedicated servers, whereas GR has tons of PC self hosted servers that are locked and a few dedicated that you either can't connect to (some people have told me they could not connect due to location or so, so even if they wanted to use GR, they could not) or that are so filled with immense lag that you see players and bots (if any) spinning arround.
SWBFSpy has better players (more skilled)
GameRanger does not (only a few are skilled players,the rest will mine/det you at full force)
SWBFSpy has a nicer community with some good clans (except those trolls who will cause trouble but you get them in GameRanger as well)
GameRanger only has a few clans mainly TKD
SWBFSpy has a bunch of clans. mine is one of them.
GameRanger makes being an admin very difficult (when owning a dedicated server) because it crashes/bugs the SM (Server Manager), you wont be able to see the player list on the SM and can't ban anyone nor kick them when they are causing trouble due to that. and RM (Remote Manager) does not work at all whatsoever.
SWBFSpy does not have this problem

such as:
BattlefrontIIORIGINAL.exe
or so.

you may now launch the game through Steam (if you have it through Steam)
if you don't have it through Steam, add that same exe you downloaded as a NON-STEAM GAME when clicking on ADD A GAME... on Steam.

once you do that, launch the game through your Library.

you will now notice a lot of GOOD servers.

go to the drop down games options on the main tab, choose My Games or create a list of games you want to add; such as: EXAMPLE: add all your SW games (supported by GameRanger) to a list named STAR WARS. or just use your My Games list.

you will notice a lot of bad servers (why? cause most of them lag a lot unlike the GameMaster ones, I have a PROS and CONS part in my other MULTIPLAYER section on this guide for you to know more about why I prefer GameMaster), click join, (CHECK MY OTHER GUIDE SECTION BELOW TO KNOW HOW TO DISABLE ANNOYING ADVERTS)
you are now in a lobby
click join again in that lobby.
you're in game now.
get ready for the lag :D

(((1 of the 2 ways:

1: you can constantly rename your exe files when using 1 of the multiplayers. (I personally like doing this over the 2nd option.) I like naming my files: BattlefrontIIOriginal.exe and BattlefrontIIswbfspy.exe when I'm not using them. when I am using either of them I rename them to BattlefrontII.exe
reason why: if you launch GR, it will look for the file with that name, and if you launch swbfspy through steam, it will look for the file with that name as well.

2: you can create two different GameData's. I did this before but I didn't like it *as much* only because it takes up more space. and if you have mods, you need to place them in both (inside their respective addon folder)
now, in order to make this work, obviously they can't both be GameData. so, what I did was, I made one called Game Data (with a place between both words) and changed the path on GR to that one, while using the normal GameData for steam (meaning, for swbfspy in this case, when you launch it through steam).)))

REMINDER:
the 1.3 patch version on the link listed above DOES NOT have any MENU.BAT nor LITE.MENU.BAT nor any of that. it's the better version of the patch.

Things You Need:
1) SWBF2
2) SWBF2 v1.1 patch (optional, but recommended) (game updated to 1.1)
3) SWBF2 v1.3 patch

Steps to Install:
-2) Install SWBF2
-1) Install the official v1.1 patch
0) read the 'Installation Problems and Notes',READ ME etc.
1) Uninstall any old version of the v1.3 patch and delete its files/folders
2) Extract the files to: LucasArts/GameData/addon/AAA-v1.3patch
(or Steam version: Steam/Steamapps/Common/Star Wars Battlefront II/GameData/addon/AAA-v1.3patch )
you will need to create both addon and AAA-v1.3patch folders manually.
3) Double-click on "menu.bat". If you downloaded the lite version, double click on "lite-menu.bat" instead.
4) Read and Follow the menu prompts

what is the 1.3 patch for?
the 1.3 patch is used to download certain mods which you cannot download without the patch.
1.3 comes with the Fake Console and a in game Camera which you can "chase" around the screen.
THE 1.3 PATCH DOES NOT UPDATE YOUR GAME.
your game version will ALWAYS be 1.1

the HUD; (the blue bars on your screen)
how do i remove it?
you remove it by:
uninstalling the 1.3 patch and reinstalling. pay close attention to the set up,it will ask you if you want the HUD or not,you tick that. (delete 1.3 patch folder,launch the installer and thats it)
if you have the menu bat or lite menu bat,you can click that and remove the HUD from there BUT there are posibilities of you messing up your game by doing that.

This will prevent you from having to do a driver "rollback" simply by using older AMD Driver Dlls.
Edit: Some people have reported the game crashes when applying this fix. If this is happening to you use a different Driver Version under DirectX 9.0 for Step 3. Not all drivers may be supported by your AMD GPU which might cause your game to crash at launch.

How to rollback driver (Win 10): Device Manager - Select your graphics card - Driver - previous driver > now wait a minute or so, your screen will flicker several times and it's done - your BF2 is working again!

Double-click the category containing your device driver, and then double-click the name of the device you want to restore to a previous driver version. Click the Driver tab, and then click Roll Back Driver.

3.) Right click and select Properties
4.) Select the Drivers tab
5.) Click "Rollback Drivers" button.

What we are going to do in a minute is roll back the graphics card drivers, but first we need to turn off automatic driver updating in Windows so it doesn't update to the newer drivers again, like it did to me while actually playing BFII =/

Go to System from Control Panel and click on Advanced System Settings.

Click on the Hardware tab.

Click on Device Installation Settings, and on the box that appears, select No and then save changes. I don't like doing this, but I'd rather have the game textures working properly.

Still on the Hardware tab, click on Device Manager.

When Device Manager loads, expand the Display adaptors node, right click on your graphics card and select Update Driver Software.

Click on the 'Browse my computer for driver software' option, and on the next box click on 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'.

Fingers crossed, you should have previous driver versions listed here, and one of them should be fairly recent. I found rolling back to the previous driver was enough to allow the mega fix to work. The driver I am now using is version: 20.19.0.32832 [30/06/2016]. As you can see, it is not too old thankfully.

If you have this driver version available then select it and click Next, then proceed to install that driver.

If you don't have that version, then either try the version prior to that, or you could try downloading a previous driver from this link and install it instead - http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/previous?os=Windows%207%20-%2064

When you have reverted to an older graphics driver, try playing the game again. I really hope this works for you as well.

If you are looking to host a dedicated server with mods, all you need to do is:

You need the following:
sm manager
rm manager (this does NOT work with GameRanger!)
your original (or anti-crash BattlefrontII.exe)
your addon folder that has your mods you wish to host.

To host through GR:
open GR and go to the main window with the server list (GR Bronze)
go to EDIT
go to Options
go to Games
find swbf2
click browse
find the sm manager

now, click Host
choose swbf2
choose all your settings; max players, description, password (if you want any) and any of the other options such as late joiners, friends only and gold/silver accounts only
once you do that, click OK
once you click OK, your GR room will come up. you can change any room options at the top left.
now, click start.
once you do, sm manager will come up. add all the settings you want
once you are done adding your modded maps and everything else, click on start.
wait for a while and it should say "started" at the bottom.

why does your CD Key get banned?
it happens when someone is banned from a server (usually dedicated) (someone could be using your CD Key without you knowing if for instance you got it off google. if bought i have heard people have some problems mostly because the CD Key thing "died" in a way with GameSpy.)

what is a boot bug?
a boot bug is when you join a server and keep getting kicked for no reason whatsoever constantly. that is a boot bug. some people think they got banned,but if it is happening to multiple people then it is NOT a ban. it is a boot bug.

you may try;

join the server multiple times under DIFFERENT NAMES each time you rejoin.
change cd keys.
or you can simply wait or try another server.

So,we all know what Battlefront is and most of us have played the beta/pre-ordered the game etc.

you could try checking these links above.... and have you tried: checking firewall and antivirus just to see if everything is fine. and have you tried doing a full pc restart? and have you tried using a vpn? and exiting steam from the task manager and restarting? I dont know how much it could help but it's just a suggestion. you could also try using a different exe file such as this: http://swgohome.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3614 it's like the original BattlefrontII exe file but slightly modded so that if some idiot is attacking a server it wont affect you. maybe it could also help. again, suggestions. I cant quarantee it will work but you can try. if all else fails.... you could try using GameMaster which is a much better multiplayer. there arent as many people there but the ones who are, are better skilled. theres more clans also such as my own.

GameRanger only supports 1.5 server patch against certain hacks
GameMaster/SWBFSpy supports 1.6 which is much better than 1.5
