Intro
Hi Heroes,

This is a guide about playing the game and particularly in multiplayer.

Multiplayer, as of 28/04/2015, is in open beta.
There are bugs, crashes and stuffs.

I still find the experience enjoyable and it will be even better with the DLC coming “Depths of hell” and future fixes and updates.

About creating a server.
I can see many servers that I can’t connect to, I just get the “freeze” for a moment.
I’m guessing most of them didn’t port forward (correctly) or maybe there’s some part of “bug” involved in those failed attempt…

The host HAS TO portforward to…host a server.

Do not create a server if you haven’t, this is just flooding the server list making all Heroes, even yourself, lose time on connection attempt everytime…

I won’t explain here how to port forward, the process may be different regarding each type of routers and there’s already a help link accessed from the “server list” screen as seen on picture below.

When PForwarding is done, simply click the create button, select expansion, act and difficulty then hit OK!

You just turned into a HOST and are now in the game room!

GJ!

How can I be a good HOST?
What’s being a good host?
To me this is knowing what you are doing, communicating briefly but efficiently.

You're now waiting patiently in the game room for mates.

The first thing to do to be a good host, when one arrives, is to say "Hello". :)
I'll let you decide of the rest of the discussion though, i'm not revealing everything just yet!

When party is full, just start the game, tell everybody the difficulty you're playing and you're good to go.

Further instructions can be said during progress, in between waves is better.
I've died so many times speaking during waves. :P

Now let's talk about your characters nicknames.

So you're HOST and you want people to join you.
You also want them not to lag too much or they'll quit, keep on dying, only bad stuff...

So you want to tell "clients", people joining, which region you're from to limit lags and such.

For example, my nick ingame is:
Gril.EU.fr

My nicks tells players that the host is in EU and more precisely in France.
I can’t be blamed if it lags because they’re from America, Australia or whatever distant country.
And if often lags with people from those far countries.

That’s why I put EU in my nick, to make people from EU join the server, this way there is less lag.
The game will run smoother for everyone like this!

So that’s my suggestion, if you’re hosting, tell in your nick your region so you can play with people from same region.

Of course this will be easier later when the game has more online players but this is still usefull even now.
How can i be a better HOST?

This part is more about the host role in the game.
When I host, I lead the game.
At first I say to everyone which difficulty we’re playing.
(I mostly play nightmare, that can surprise new players/chars)

When game is in progress I would ask players or “order” them.

“Clear map then dungeon/shop”.

“Ready to go”?

The host sure has to communicate and cooperate with his mates, but so does the clients!

(More about that later...)
How can I be a good client/mate?
I’ve seen many “bad clients”, either because lack of experience or no “respect” for mates.

If you want the best game possible, apply the following rules.
IF we all do, things will be faster and easier...

-Don’t enter a multiplayer game if you don’t have time to play at least one act entirely, it takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on difficulty etc…
That’s just respect towards other players.
If you don’t have much time play in solo or in multiplayer but on your own, to farm and beat the game.

-Let the host do the map changes unless he tells you to.

Don't change map if you’re not sure everyone is ready to leave.
It’s especially true in dungeons and after defeating a boss.

So many times one would rush the exit so fast others couldn’t take their relics/stuff.
This is really annoying to say the least.

So please ask “ready?” or anything similar and wait for answers for example.

-Keep some space around BOSS spawn location to have good visibility.

Marksman shouldn’t put turret where the boss spawns as it may impair vision of the action.
Same could be said about anything static like the Pyro's Hydra for example.

-Don’t stand on the pentagram after boss kill.

Furthermore if you happen to be on spawn location when boss dies, then the portal will appear on your face and your team will go to next map immediatly.
So you'll all lose coins/relics etc...

-When a teammate is down set priority to revive him if the situation is OK.

Being down for a minute or more is not cool, especially when you can’t see the action outside your screen.
If you can revive your mate, it will increase your success.

Of course sometimes you’ll just have to beat the monsters around before doing so, depends on the situation.

Be smart! ;)
Tips and tricks!
-When starting a new map, your FIRST PRIORITY should be to clean the map as fast as possible.

Grab all coins/potions/chests/relics while clearing waves.
Stay with mates if you're not strong enough.

You don’t know when map will change even if people are supposed to ask before changing map, you’ll never know.

If you’re not fast enough you will lose in farming efficiency and thus in power.
Best class for cleaning map is Marksman with his arrow rampage skill and that’s not his only advantage. :P

-Entering a dungeon/crypt makes shop disappear from the map.

The best way to use shop is at the beginning of a map.
For example go to shop at first or second wave of the map, all next waves can spawn a dungeon that you can actually enter without worrying about the shop disappearing anymore because you used it already.

Don’t forget that the shop is great because you’re guaranteed to have a relic, be it good or “troll”.
So shop has highest priority than dungeon/crypts in some way.

Farming efficiency or how to be Godlike.
Let's talk about farming eficiency.

The best and easier way to beat the game, i did it in normal and nightmare already, is to farm efficiently throughout your game.

That would mean in a normal playthrough, in solo or MP:

As said earlier in this guide, my 1st priority on a map is always to clear it and "loot it" as fast as possible so i can enter a shop or a dungeon/crypt whenever possible.

Note: Upon entering shop/dungeon, when you come back the map is reset.
That's exactly where the farming efficiency is determined.

The number of maps you clear and loot during an Act or the whole playthrough greatly determines your power and chance of succes:
-Number of potions used.
-Number of relics found
-number of monsters defeated = XP

If you follow my thought, farming efficiently is:

1.Clearing maps quickly
2.Resetting the map as often as possible by entering the shop or dungeon/crypt.

Note: Dungeons can be hard early game, if your characters are low level you should probably avoid entering them (dungeons/crypts) during act 1.

So to put it simply, things could go like this on a normal ACT 1 game.

Wave 3 - Map Cleared + enter shop
wave 4: Map is reset and full of loots.
wave 6 - Map cleared + boss defeated

Wave 7 - clearing map
wave 8-map cleared + enter shop (before wave 9)
Wave 9 - map reseted - clearing map
wave 10 - clearing map
wave 11 - Map cleared - enter dungeon/crypt (before boss at wave 12) <= say my char is leveled so i can go in dungeon.
Wave 12 - Map reset - boss defeated - clearing map - map cleared

T summarize, in those 12 waves:

-World Map cleared/looted : 5
-Shop visited: 2 (Only got money for one of them, not even sure to have enough at wave 8)
-Dungeons cleared: 1

it is also possible to do something like that:

Wave 34: Map cleared + enter dungeon
wave 35: Map reset + clearning map
wave 36: map cleared + enter crypt
wave 37: map reset+ clearing map

Rinse and repeat, sometimes dungeons and crypts spawn successively, use it to your advantage and farm with efficiency!

Well i think you got the point of it.
Understanding it is not hard but doing it is actually harder.

Clearing maps with efficiency means :

-Destroying bushes, urns and stuff quickly.
The best way to do that is with aoe attacks and the best one in my opinion at this job is the "Arrow rampage" skill from the Marksman.
You know all those arrows that fliy through your screen?

Well it cleans a great portion of a map in a few seconds, what can beat that?
Marksman for the win!

-Moving fast.
Only way to be faster is to get boots and drink speed potions.
Some skills give bonus to movement speed like "AGILITY" for Marksman or the "Dash" attack for the ninja.

-Grabing things fast:
If you're lucky you'll find the magnet relic at some points, all coins and keys will be attracted to you.
That's saving a lot of time and effort, one of the best relics out there!
Don't lose to much time running around for copper coins that are worth 1 "gold".
Save some time and focus on silver and gold coins.

-Why saving some time?

Because a complete playthrough with the 5 acts can take 3 hours if you're farming efficiently and not rushing.
There are no small savings right?

One can also rush the game but that's even harder in the end.

If you succeed, you'll be rewarded!

Conclusion.
Well that’s all for now folks!

Wait! I want to play with you!
I'm always looking for more mates as there are only a few for now online.

I'm hosting games as Gril.EU.fr with DLC.

You can join if you see my server or add me through steam.
I prefer playing with EU mates as latency is better that way but i'm still ok with others if they're OK with lagging. ;)

@ShadyKarpz

Kinda late bud!
I haven't played the game in years.

Also the game has changed A LOT since I wrote the guide so it is probably outdated here and there, or everywhere.

I don't know the state of the game nowadays, I should try and see those changes someday.

Nice guide m8. I haven't tried multiplayer yet, but I might soon. (I do have a necro ~84lvl at SP who unlocked HELL) As already said we take some things for granted, but not everyone pays enough attention to those granted things. So it's always a good reminder for better multi play. I wouldn't say no to a multiplayer-4 game if I'm on.
