Introduction
First of all id like to say that this is just my method of doing this, im not claiming this to be the best way of doing it ( it probably isnt ), or that i am an expert. but it works.

i have looked around but havent found any guide or resource explaining how to create and prepare a taunt icon for the workshop, so im making this hoping it will be helpfull to some of you.

lets start!
Creating your personalized flat image.
First step is to take a screenshot of your model from SFM. This is what you will use as a reference in photoshop:

Then using the pen tool, create paths for every section.

Make a selection from that path and use the Fill option to color it. ( taunt icon only use 2 colors, you can eyedrop them from an existing taunt icon, more on that ahead).

You should end up with something like this:

Creating the Taunt icon
I downloaded from google an image of a taunt icon. (this is where you can eyedrop the colors needed for the flat version.)

Select the inner shape of the existing taunt with the pen tool and create a selection.

Add scratches and splatters with brushes, (there is a lot of resources in the web for this)

Add and position the flatten image created before.

Now you have a nearly finished icon, next you need to prepare it for the workshop.

Preparing for the workshop
This is probably the part where most people have problems. here we go!

Create a new file in Photoshop with the height and width required.( 512x 512 )

Then create another one with this height and width: (512x92)

Now drag the second file you created into the first and use as reference.

Place the Taunt icon you created with the flat image. use the white blocks we created as a reference.

Once its placed you can delete or just uncheck the visibility of the references and control+left click on the taunt to select it.

The last thing we are going to do is create a Alpha channel that will drive transparency. With the taunt icon selected create a new channel

Now using the Fill option we saw before fill it white. Should look like this:

Go back to the layers and export as a .psd or tga. ( i used tga in this case)

Done!!

Endtroduction and template.
I hope this has helped you guys understand how to create and upload a taunt icon for the workshop, im sorry if there is grammar errors, this is not my native language, i will be happy to correct the text if there are errors.

I understand that following a guide like this can be dificult, and getting lost is very easy, so i decided to create a template so anyone that has trouble completing can download it and just add the flat personalized image of theyre taunt.
