Paranormal
Strange goings on are afoot in San Andreas. From mysterious bones to the dead risen from the grave, the paranormal is very real in the world of GTA 5.

Ghost of Mt Gordo

The Ghost can be found at night between 23:00 - 00:00 on Mt. Gordo north of the lighthouse. She'll disappear when you approach her. The name "Jock" is written in blood next to her. If you search the internet for the "Who Killed Lenora Johnson?", a page has another murder mystery titled "Blood on the Rocks."

The article tells that the ghost is Jolene Cranley-Evans and that her husband is suspected of pushing her off the cliff. Her husband, Jock Cranley, later moved to Los Santos to become a famous stunt man and is currently running for governor of San Andreas. He is referenced during one of Trevor's Strangers and Freaks missions. During this mission you must steal celebrity items for a man named Nigel. When Trevor encounters Nigel, Nigel mistakes him for Jock and does so until Nigel's missions with Trevor ends.

The Ghost is located off the East Coast of San Andreas near the El Gordo Lighthouse.

Whale Skeleton/"Sea Monster"

Want to see the skeleton of a gigantic Sea Monster?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGsvYxFEnSg
The bones can be found off the west coast of San Andreas, south of Chumash.

Zombie

Up in Vinewood hills near the Cinema you can be treated to a rather friendly zombie.

The Vinewood Zombie occassionally appears at this corner:

You can have a conversation with him. He's a nice zombie *w*

Bigfoot

Long time GTA fan favorite Bigfoot makes a confirmed cameo during the Predator Mission. Bigfoot is hidden mostly behind a tree from your helicopter vantage point.

Switching to your IR scope reveals him clearly.

After finishing the game 100% you'll be treated to a random Mission where you'll actually get to hunt down the Bigfoot!
Aliens & UFO's
Amidst a hodgepodge of GTA 5 Alien sightings, UFO appearances, Flying Saucers, and jetpack rumors, a tantalizing unsolved mystery continue.

These Symbols, what they mean?

A cryptic painting on the wall of the Cable Car station atop Mt. Chiliad was one of the earliest sources of intrigue for GTA conspiracy-hunters.The main map is remarkably similar to the shaft and chamber layout of a pyramid, suggesting the possible existence of a subterranean dungeon. Also scattered around the image are a number of smaller markers. While the meaning of many of the symbols within have been encrypted, the large icons of cracking egg, a spaceship, and a humanoid form remain an intriguing puzzlement.

The symbol matches the UFO depicted in the Cable Car station painting. On the back of the platform it reads "Come back when your story is complete."

The carefully hidden painting beneath the platform atop Chiliad’s highest point is the sighting point for a well-documented postgame Flying Saucer appearance, which takes place late at night during thunderstorms. Other symbols likely indicate other known Glyphs spaced around the mountain. The evidence strongly suggests a relationship between the pen15 mountain and the mysterious uninterpreted Glyphs.

Some players speculate that the Mt. Chiliad Map should be laid over the GTA 5 pack-in paper map to reveal a number of significant locations. Current efforts center around centering the map above the northward edge of the island, though this produces no discernible explanation for the three main Glyphs.

An alternate theory (image below) involves lining up the eye at the top of the mountain (red dot) with the glyphs on the the side of the mountain (green dots) leaving one half faded glyph (green circle).

Glyphs line up as per the image below:

While intriguing, these theories fail to address the purpose of the connecting lines between Glyphs, as well as the three large symbols.

Alien Flying Saucers

To date 4 confirmed UFOs have been located in GTA 5. Details on each are available at UFOs. Most pertinent to the search is the presence of a UFO directly over Mt. Chiliad, appearing in the rain at 3 AM after 100% completion.

The Search for Underground Tunnels at Mt Chilliad

Recent reports of players using clipping glitches to gain access to the inside of the mountain to show tunnels have mostly been dismissed as known and already accessable tunnels:

  • The Road Tunnel joining Paleto Bay to the Alamo Sea
  • The Rail Tunnel joining Paleto Bay to the Alamo Sea
  • The Road Tunnel that passes under the runways at Fort Zancudo

Though the hunt still continues as tunnels are not made visible until in close proximity. Current searches are revolving around the Saw Mill drain grates.

After the release of the GTA Content Creator, players utilizing the tool discovered that a sealed elevator door in Ft. Zancudo can in fact be opened. The door has often been a source of speculation as a possible entry point to an underground area related to the Mt. Chiliad map. Unfortunately, the elevator inside is currently inoperable.

The Jetpack Connection

Online communities of UFO hunters have focused largely on a resemblance of the humanoid glyph to a person riding a jetpack. Many people believe that unlocking the riddle of Mt. Chiliad will unlock access to this GTA unicorn item.

New Clues and Current Speculation

The UFO hippie camp near Sandy Shores is ringed with a trail of Alien script. Some players believe the script might contain a decipherable code, others believe it to have ties to Yoga positions which are themed throughout the camp.

The breaks between examples below are limited by video capture capibilities, not by any distinctive breaks in the text. Viewed left to right from the outside of the ring, the code reads:

Possible Alien Code Part 1

Possible Alien Code Part 2

Possible Alien Code Part 3

Possible Alien Code Part 4

Possible Alien Code Part 5

Possible Alien Code Part 6

Possible Alien Code Part 7

Possible Alien Code Part 8

Possible Alien Code Part 9

It's also possible that the code reads from the inside of the ring, in which case the images would be flipped and the order reversed.

Other Alien Stuff

These flying saucers aren't the first hint of extra-terrestrial life in GTA 5. The GTA 5 Special Edition map includes a UFO part location revealed by exposure to black light.

Alien Glyphs are concealed throughout the map, including drawings on Mt. Chiliad, near the Altruist Camp, and at the Hippie Camp.

Aliens also make cameo appearances frozen in ice in the Prologue Mission and wandering the lots of the movie studio.

Other Eastereggs
THE PLAYBOY MANSION

In the Vinewood hills there is a mansion that some of you may find familiar, it's almost a complete replica of the Playboy Mansion.

Night time parties at the Mansion get a little wild.

THE FACE OF MOUNT CHILIAD

On the cliff face of Mount Chiliad is a texture of a face of someone, possibly one of the developers?

The Face appears on the mountain's north slope not far from the cable car station.

INFINITE 8 MYSTERY

San Andreas is dotted with graffiti left behind by the Infinite 8 Serial Killer.

By following clues left in these scrawls, especially in the prison, players can locate the bodies of his victims hidden in the following location.

Red Dead Redemption References

In Red Dead Redemption, one of the major characters was Captain Vicente De Santa. After the heist up in North Yankton, Michael changes his last name from "Townley" to "De Santa", as is known. This may be a (not so) subtle homage to that infamous villain from Red Dead Redemption.

A book called Red Dead by J. Marston can be found in Franklin's bookshelf in his house in the hills. In Red Dead Redemption, Jack Marston mentioned that he was going to make a book about his father and the Wild West. On a slightly unrelated note, there are two books to the left of Marton's Red Dead. One is titled Vanity Unfair, which is an obvious nod to the famous magazine Vanity Fair. To the left of that is Malcolm Eggs, a humorous pun on the Autobiography of Malcolm X.

There are locations in GTA V called "Cholla Springs Ave" and "Armadillo Ave" that can be found in Trevor's town of Sandy Shores, an obvious reference to Red Dead Redemption's Armadillo Town and the surrounding region of Cholla Springs. The location Mt. Gordo is also a reference to one of Red Dead Redemption's legendary animals: Gordo the Boar.

There is also a farm South of the penitentiary which looks exactly like John Marston's farm in RDR.

In some of the movies and commercials seen in GTA V you can see scenes that were shot in using RDR, one example being the Piswasser commercial, where there are many shots of McFarlane's ranch.

There is a tour bus at the airport that has "Escalera Tours" printed on it. Escalera being a town found in Red Read Redemption.

GTA Series Self References
  • Occasionally Trevor shouts "Ten Points" when squashing a civilian with a Vehicle, a throwback reference to the scoring system in the original Grand Theft Auto.
  • One of the movies you can watch in the cinema shows the beating heart inside the Happiness Island Statue that appeared in GTA IV.
  • If you head into the bar where you can play Darts near Sandy Shores you'll notice a familiar face on the bank notes behind the counter.
  • The Platypus' sister boat appears docked in warehouse area of GTA V. This boat is called the Octopus and is also from Liberty City. It appears on Elysian Island.
  • The optional task "Better than CJ" is a reference to Wrong Side of the Tracks in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas which has CJ riding a dirtbike and chasing after a train, very similar to what Trevor does.
  • A figure resembling CJ can be seen bicycling in the mission "Hood Safari" near Grove Street.
  • Music by two GTA: San Andreas characters can be found in Franklin's house.
  • One of the masks available for sale on Vespucci beach strongly resembles a mask from Rockstar's Manhunt.
  • When entering his house, Michael sometimes says "Daddy's back, @#$%@!" This is likely a reference to the very first line of dialogue in Grand Theft Auto IV's opening cutscene. This line became infamous among the GTA IV multiplayer modding community, many of whom don't use a save game and therefore heard this line every time they launched the game.
