⇀ Basics
So if you are reading this, chances are you want to know how to play Spy or how to improve your skills at Spy. Good thing You are reading this! The Spy is the ninth class that Valve put into Team Fortress 2. (Fun fact: the Spy was based of a glitch in Team Fortress Classic where the player would appear to be on the opposite team!) The Spy was a basic concept, get behind the enemy and backstab them. He has 5 weapons and/or items to do this.
⇀ Relvolver
Revolver
Your Primary Weapon is your revlover. It is simple, 6 shots, Random Crits. As a Spy, you will use your Revolver in close combat, or on Razorback Snipers.

Ambassador
The Ambassador is used in a lot of "MLG" players. Why? Because you can get headshots! Thats why! The damage on a head shot is usually 102 but it can got down to 98 (From what I've seen). The Ambassador has a -15% damage penalty so you really want them Headshots! It also has -20% firing speed so it not the fastest shooter. The abassador also has a "cooldown" everytime you shoot it, your cross hairs will grow big then small. This is only important for headshots. You MUST wait till its back to original size until you can get another headshot.

L'Etranger
The L'Etanger is personally my favorite Revolver for the Spy. It is good for if you use the stock Invis watch (which we'll get to later) because you get increased time on your cloak.
Another Cloak it is good for is the Dead Ringer (Even ater it got the S**t beat out of it after the Gun Mettle Update). On every hit, your get 15% of your cloak back! So if you have NO cloak at all, it will take around 6 to 7 shots to get it back. It is good for all Cloaks but, you can fake your death again after feeding lead to that dreaded Pyro. On the downside, it has a -20% damage penalty, not bad but still, 20%...

Enforcer
This weapon got a pretty big nerf but it is still good. The Enforcer has a +20% damage bonus when you are disguised. So basically you get around 40 damage on a player when you are disguised and then back down to around 20 after you are undisguised. Not that big of a deal, but use it properly. The only big downside is that pesky -20% firing speed. Like I said, thats the big one out of the 2 downsides. The other you're wondering? No random Crits. *sigh*

Diamondback
If you are GREAT, and I mean Great at the "Stab-n-Sapp" technique (you backstab the Engineer and Sapp all of his buildings) this is the gun for you! For every Backstab or Building destroyed, you get 1 guaranteed Crit that is stored "in" the gun. For example, you see a Heavy/Medic combo, you get a clean backstab on the Medic, the Heavy turns around, you have 1 crit in your gun, you can either use it on the Heavy and keep shooting him or try and Matador stab him (get him to run at you and Backstab him). If you decide to backstab him somehow, you will now have 2 crits. These can only be used on the gun, not the knife. The bad parts about this gun that there is a -15% damage penalty and no Random Crits.

These are all of the Revolvers used by the Spy. For more info visit TF2 Wiki
⇀ Sappers
Sapper
The Sapper is used to Destroy and make the Engineers building inactive. For example, "Sapping" a Sentry will make it not fire at you nor teammates. Or, If you "Sapp" a telepoter, the opposing team will not be able to go through the teleporter. Aswell, "Sapping" a dispencer will make it stop healing and giving ammo to that teams teammates (if that makes sense). The Sapper can be removed by an Engineer hitting it or a Pyro with the Homewrecker hitting it. The sapper does 25 damage on a building per second. To help it, if there is no one around while you are sapping it, shoot it with your Revolver. (*IMPORTANT* Make sure you are "sapping" it before you shoot, or... you are dead) FUN FACT: The Festive-Sapper makes no noise whilst Sapping... There, have fun!

Red-Tape Recorder
The cool thing with the Red-Tape, is that it Downgrades the building its sapping in a matter of seconds. The bad thing is, it does no damage to the building untill it is back to level 1. When the building is back to level 1, it does around 9.3 damage per second. It also has a cool animation where the building is being put back into its "tool box"

⇀ Knives
Knife
The stock Knife is the "best" knife, no deductins ot buffs and it gets the work done. Base damaga but, a 600% percent damage on a backstab. It id good becasue you loose no health and you don't gain any buffs (unless used with diamondback).

Your Eternal Reward/Wanga Prick
The reason I put both names up there is that the Wonga Prick is the exact same thing as the Your Eternal Reward but, it just looks like a VooDoo prick. The Your Eternal Reward (I'm going to refrence it as the YER for short) is best used on the defending team in Payload, in my opinion. The only nerf is that you cannot use your disguise kit. Instead though, Valve made it so upon a sucsessfull backstab, they die, and you "turn into them". You are now disguised as the player you backstabed. (Fun Fact: the YER is a refrence to "Aladdin" in where the Jaffar pulls out a knife and says "Your Eternal Reward") Aladdin Scene. The other plus is that it is a Silent Killer, When you kill someone, there is no signal of it in the killfeed.

Conniver's Kunai
The Kunai, as eveyone calls it, is a good weapon if you know how to use it. You start off with 70 Health. Thats it. 70 Health, it used to be 60 but that was buffed :D. The good thing about this weapons is when you backstab some one, you will absorb their Health, 75 min to 210 max. Thats basically it to this weapons, you become more fragile than a piece of glass but then how become as buffed as a Heavy. I forgot to mention but the Health you gain will deplete untill back to your normal 70.

The Big Earner
When they say Big Earner, they mean it. This is a good knife if you want to run away after backstabbing someone mid battle. This weapon is the "L'Etanger" of the knifes, on kill, you get +30% cloak, on kill that is. So you need to kill someone to get some cloack back. Another great thing about this is that you get a 3 second speed boost on kill. Its as if you where whipped (Ooooo Kinky) by the Soldier. The bad thing that of course has to counter these AMAZING boosts is that you only have 100 health, not bad, but I like it!

The Spy-Cicle
Oh boy, did I save the best, I mean Semi-Worst for last. The Spy-Cicle used to be used by almost EVERY Spy. Now its good but bad. When you are lit on fire, you get 1 second of fire immunity but 10 seconds of Afterburn immunity. The bad thing is that there is a glitch where a bubble forms around you (like the Vaccinator) and it gives you away. The bad things about the Spy-Cicle is that the Backstab turns your victim into Ice. IT GIVES YOU AWAY! *cough* sorry... But alsom it will melt if set on fire. You can regenerate by picking up ammo kits though :3.

⇀ Watches
Invis Watch
The Stock Watch is based off, well, a watch... (Biggest TF2 Secret Relvealed yet). When you Right Click, aka Alt-Fire or M2, you will turn invisible. Your meter degenerates while you are cloaked, and if an opponent "bumps" into you, they will see and outline of your body, you can get your Cloak meter back up naturally or by picking up ammo kits. Shile you are cloaked, you take les dammage. Also, if you do take damage from someone else, they will see an outline. And, if a Sniper's Laser target lands on you, only that Sniper will see you. You will also get 10 seconds of invisibilty.

Cloak and Dagger
This is by far one of the most Over Powered watches when paired with the "L'Etanger". Without the "L'Etanger" Walking, you get 6.2 seconds of invisibility and Crouch Walking, you get 60 seconds. With the "L'Etanger" you get 8.7 seconds walking and 84 seconds Crouch Walking. BUT, With the CaD, When you stay still, you get infinite Invisibility! The Thing with this watch is that you can pick up ammo boxes to regenerate it but, not while you are cloaked...

Dead Ringer
Oh boy, am I glad to tell you why Valve Screwed up while Nerfing this Watch! First off, you take damage when you get cloaked. Basically the point of a dead ringer is that when you take damage while it is out, you take 50% of that damage and you are invisible, plus a 3 second speed boost. Thats not bad but heres the ZINGER, the BIG ONE, the what'd you say: DUMBEST NERF EVER! When your Feign Death is triggered, 1/2 of the cloak is taken away but, you cannot pick up ammo while invisible. So... You will always have 1/2 cloak. You can ONLY use the DR when your cloak is filled but, 1/2 of it goes in the garbage when you use it. Brovo Valve, Bravo...

Disguise Kit
Sadly, there is only one Disguise Kit. Simple enough, you open it, chose what team you want to be seen on and choose a class. Easy. When you are disguised, if you shoot or stab someone, it will fade away with a big puff of smoke. This smoke lasts about 3 seconds and is visible while disguising and undisguising. If you noticed, I didn't say "Sapping" takes away your disguise. Thats because it does't. You will be able to run away after sapping and not having to re-disguise. If, you are disguised and you want to change that disguise, it will only take 0.5-ish seconds to do so. That puff of smoke lasta rounf 0.8 seconds still. Helpful tip. If you repsawn and you want to take out the last diguise but not open your kit again, press "b" (stock key). Also, if you are, say, a pyro, if you hold out your Sapper and press B, it will make your disguise hold their secondary Weapon, same with the knife, they will "hold" their Melee weapon.

⇀ Good Loadouts
"The Vampire"
  • L'Etranger
  • Cloak And Dagger
  • Big Earner
  • Red-Tape Recorder
This Loadout is one I love using on Koth maps or CTF. Basically, try and get to high places. You always want to crouch walk because of that 84 ish second cloak. You only use your Knife to kill and your revolver to get back some cloak.

"Speedy Gonzales"
  • Stock Revolver
  • Dead Ringer
  • Big Earner
  • Any Sapper
This Loadout is meant for speed. When you kill someone you get that little boost aswell as with the Dead Ringer. You use this loadout on pl and plr maps on the Offensive side (BLU).

"Cart Clearer"
  • Ambassador
  • Any Watch
  • YER/Wanga Prick
  • Any Sapper
This Loadout is meant for the spys on RED on any pl (Payload) map. With the YER or Wanga you can get 1 backstab and no one will know. "Help" push the cart while backstabing anyone else who is pushing. IMPORTANT Make sure there is always 1 other person pushing after you backstab. So you + another 1 person from BLU.

"xXx_MLG_Pro_n0sc0p3_b4cakst4b_h34dsh0t_spy_xXx"
  • The Ambassador
  • Any Watch
  • Stock Knife
  • Stock Sapper
This is the Loadout used by all the pesky "Pro" Spies in TF2. They use the ambassador for Headshots ONLY! and always trickstab you. They wil NEVER EVER walk behind and stab you... Pesky, no good, flibber flammering CoD players. (No offense to CoD <3)

"The Patient Assasin" (By: Thway the AetherKnight )
  • Diamondback
  • Cloak And Dagger
  • YER/Wanga Prick
  • Stock-Sapper

"Stealthily get to the spawn/sniper-campsite/cart and get your first disguise. From there, take out any foes giving your team a challenge. If at any time you are in a tight spot, fight them off with the (hopefully charged) Diamondback and start the process over." -Thway he AetherKnight

Starkman Jones 4 авг. 2015 г. в 11:45
Also a loadout suggestion:

The Fast Travler Spy.

Stock Watch
L'Terranger
Big Earner
Any Sapper.

With L'Terranger, you now have 14 seconds of cloak. And upon Big Earner kill. You gain a speed boost. Allowing you to cover large distences while cloaked in a very short time.
Starkman Jones 4 авг. 2015 г. в 11:38
The SpyCicle Bubble thing was fixed a week ago.
The DR. still gives you 7 seconds of cloak. Its diffrent now. Its not some giant Sheild that makes you take 1000+ damage per life before dying for real. Its now an Escape Route. Due to how the cloak drains now, pairing it with the L'terranger is almost pointless. Its better to bring a gun that packs a punch (Like Amby/Diamond) and pair it with a knife that doesent drain your health (Stock/Spycicle).
