SimConnect
Navigate to "C:\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces" this is the default installation

Install the SimConnect.MSI from the FSX-XPack folder. The others may be used for other addons but are not required for vPilot.
VATSIM
VATSIM is completely free to join and use, including all pilot and ATC software that allows you to connect to the global network. Whether you want to join as a virtual Pilot or virtual Air Traffic Controller, the initial registration process is the same. You must be 13 years of age to join.

VATSIM Member Registration[cert.vatsim.net]

Upon successful registation you will be assigned a CID# and Password. Both of these will be used in the next step.

vPilot
Download and Install vPilot[vpilot.metacraft.com]

To start vPilot, double-click the desktop icon (if you chose to create one during the installation) or locate vPilot in your programs list and launch it from there. vPilot runs externally from FSX so it is not launched from an FSX menu like some other pilot clients are.

The first time you run vPilot, you will see a popup window with a message indicating that you have not yet fully configured vPilot. Click the Yes button to open the Settings window and configure vPilot.

Here you will need to fill in the appropriate details under the Network portion using the CID# and Password from your VATSIM registration. I would advise also setting up a microphone on the audio page and picking an appropriate ruleset on the model matching page.

After vPilot starts, it will immediately attempt to connect to FSX via SimConnect. If FSX is not yet running, it will keep trying every 10 seconds and display a message in the main message area when the connection is finally made.

Any extra vPilot documentation can be found here.[vpilot.metacraft.com]
Getting Started
Linked below are a few guides on flying VATSIM from my Virtual Airline.

FSUIPC:Optional but may help with other addons

FSUIPC provides an interface between the 'inners' of the Flight Simulator Program and all sorts of add-ons, both hardware and software. Many software add-ons use it, but officially the developers of such then need to pay for it and the user only needs the freeware version. vPilot is one of these programs that uses the free version.

Download and Install FSUIPC[www.schiratti.com]

Use version 4.939 or newer.

WideFS is completely up to you and unrelated to VATSIM.

Is there a way to overlap the vpilot tab and fax as currently every time I'm using vpilot It pauses my live VATSIM flight on fax which I don't want it to do, then disconnecting me from the server :( glad if anyone could help please.

Thanks man. I'm new to the SE FSX. I used to run squawkbox and it was pretty straight forward...zero AI. I got confused. I'll try loading up near a busy airport next time and see what happens.

You could be flying in an area where nobody else is. In game AI can be used while online to add extra traffic that only you can see. At a busy airport I'll turn AI (not multiplayer) off.

To check you surroundings I'd try VAT-Spy. [www1.metacraft.com]

Not sure what's going on, but VPilot says it's connected, but I'm still offline on Flight Sim. I can't see any multiplayer traffic, I'm stuck with AI...any clue?

Oh wow, I didn't realize you were trying to run a networked setup. I"ve only ever used vpilot on the same computer as the sim. Short of searching for the same thing you are I'm not sure how to help.

Have you set up your shared folders? Are you running TrafficProxy? Do you have the same versions of vPilot installed?
