I read the scroll, the note, and I tried all possible combinations of 3 and figured that one has to be used more than once (since the 3er combi didn't cause anything), but could as well mean that there are combinatiuons of 6 or more maybe even an entire christmas song - who knows. Ofc I did not read the verse book, looked not related ^^ and I totally cba to read every story and poem and song book I find on my way. Thanks for the solution here. BTW I also didn't find the key, where is it supposed to be?

Speaking of sneaking to find the key that will let you bypass the bells...I found it in an earlier game but it just would not show up for me in another play through. I had a character with Mechanics 4 too, in a level 3 party. Not sure what happened...I guess it might require Mechanics 4+ but that seems like a stretch at that point in the game.

or you can just sneak in one of the rooms and find the key...

Here's how I found the solution-

There's a sheet of paper that you find somewhere called the Initiate's note that provides a hint.

it says
blah blah blah "(f)orgot and struck the largest bell first rather than second."

So the way to solve this puzzle is pretty straightforward; there are 3 bells and, trial and error reveals that there are 4 note positions.

Because you know that the Largest bell is not supposed to be played first, but IS supposed to be played second, that leaves you with drastically fewer possible solutions. So the way you solve the puzzle is by enumerating the remaining solutions. I made a key of possible solutions:

A = Small left bell
B = Largest bell
C = Small right bell

ABAA,
CBAA,
ABBB,
CBBB,
etc
...
until finding the solution as:

CBAC

meaning- you play the small right bell first, then the largest once, then the small left bell, then the small right bell again.

There's also the book on the first floor, called "The book of verses", that kinda tells you the order in a form of a story=)
