Would you like the music to be a bit more Sieg-Heily for your Germany playthrough? Or perhaps you feel that K-Pop would much better fit the theme of the game than the default music? Well this guide will show you how to change the music to your own. To put the music into the game, you quite obviously need a music file first. Make sure it is an MP3,as that is the file the game uses for music (It should have a .mp3 at the end). Once you have done this, you are ready for the next step.
Put your music in the game files
To navigate to the files, first open up your documents by pressing the tab that looks like a file, and then click on Local Disk (C:),then click on Program Files x86 within that, and then Steam, and then steamapps, and then common, and then Hearts of Iron 3,and then music.
Once you are done, you should come to a screen that looks like this. Find the song that you would like to replace (You can not add new music technically, you must replace one song so another song will play in it's place) Once you have found a song you would like to replace, first get said song's file out of the folder,or just delete it if you don't intend to use it again, but make sure to remember it's name exactly. After that is done, you should place your own music file that you wish to put into the game into the folder by dragging it from the folder it is in to the HOI3 folder. However, you are not done yet. You must right-click the music file you just put in,and click "Rename". Then rename it to the EXACT title of the file you took out of the folder. This is case-sensitive,so make sure it is lower or upper case to the respective letters.. You must do this because, when the game plays music,it is on a track depending what country/faction you are in,and after it is done playing one song,it looks for the name of the next song in the track within the files, and it plays the said song. You can trick it into playing whatever music you want it to using the steps found within this guide. If you followed the steps correctly, the next time you are playing the game and it is playing a track that contains the name of the music file you replaced,it should play your song. If you are having difficulties performing the steps,I could whip up a quick video that explains it better, just leave something in the comments. Anyways, that is all to the guide. Enjoy!

I'm facing the same problem as [2-P.G.D]Johnhawk911, I do the instructions to the word, rename the files using Copy and Paste so there is no doubt that the spelling is right. But when I open the game, none of the music I put in plays, and when I go back to the music folder, I find all the orginial music has been put back and my music has been removed despite it having identical names to the orginial files.

Not all songs play all the time. Open up that Songs.txt file and you'll see indications of what affects them. For instance, bigairforce.mp3 depends on the number of planes. I'm guessing you won't hear it if you have less than 5 and you'll be twice as likely to hear it if you've got 20+.

@ColonelAdmiralGeneralDr.Carson I'll see what I can do. If this doesn't work, I'll just play the songs in background anyway lol. Nah, It's cool. No need to go to such a far extent just to play automated music. Thanks for the offer though! :D

@ [2-P.D.G]Johnhawk911 I honestly don't know what to tell you. Try putting your song in using the instructions one more time and see if it works. If it doesn't,I would be glad to make a short video detailing exactly how to.

@ [2-P.D.G]Johnhawk911 Are you sure you renamed the music file you put in to the EXACT name of the song you replaced? Make sure uppercase, lowercase etc. is also exactly the same as the original song.

@Sandy Jamieson I am not sure, but messing around with the script for music would most likely be much more difficult than just renaming the song you want to play.
