Introduction
Hello, Soldier! Let's get you started on how to fight out there!
Follow these tips and you will find yourself getting shot less often!

Overview:
Arma 3 is unlike most FPS games, It has physics and real world problems put into it.
It's a military simulator, and a very fun one. (If you know how to play it)
Combat Basics
Tips:

View
  • Using Third person has it's perks and drawbacks.
  • It allows you to be more aware of your surroundings, but it's not good for accuracy.
  • I would highly reccomend first person over third person because of this drawback.

Combat and moving

Use your cover.
    ALWAYS USE YOUR IRONSIGHTS!
  • Don't walk in the middle of the street like a fool! Somebody could be waiting to shoot you.
Walk through buildings and along walls.
  • Watch your stamina, running too much can result in fatigue. This can be important because when you see the target you want to shoot, you will be too inaccurate from the fatigue to hit your enemy. Slow it down, son.
  • Shoot from cover at your target. Then return to cover, wait for him to empty his magazine or tire him self out.
  • Then, either move to another location to attack him with an unexpected attack, or simply return fire at your target
Beware of what you're using as cover because some guns can penetrate through certain materials.
Here's a video showcasing bullet penetration:
Further learning
Practice In virtual arsonal, editor mode, and steam workshop scenarios to learn how to drive, shoot, and survive. But most importantly, read my guides!
RHINOCRUNCH's perfect videos.
I cannot explain how perfect this guy is on explaining tthis game to you.
This guy hits the spot on the core mechanics of the game.
These are the most helpful videos I have found.
Go ahead and use youtube to your advantage, if you have a question ask me or search it up on the internet!

<--This one is just a video showcasing sniping.

Gamemodes!
Here's an overview of your multiplayer gamemodes
Altis life:
It's like Darkrp from Gmod, but much more tedious and boring.
Drive for 40 minutes to go get some peaches then sell them and buy a gun and commit highway robbery.
There are sometimes fun setup but mostly is just boring. This game is for REAL combat not dumb pistol fightouts over fruit. Oh, and the jerks. There's lots of trolls. Avoid this gamemode.

King of the Hill:
Theres lots of bad servers for this one!
Level up your soldier and buy vehicles, guns and other supplies to destroy the other players. But use your teamwork! Teamwork is a very important part of this game.

Wasteland:
My favorite gamemode, very simple actually. You buy guns and vehicles to capture cities and get money to buy tons of stuff. Takeout money shipments by working with your team to get money to buy tanks or whatever.
Theres 3 teams, blufor, opfor, and independent. Opfor and blufor have teams that work together. (Most of the time)
Independent creates very small groups or just lone wolf and kills everybody. Usually just for campin' a hill killing both the defensive and offensive teams. It's the real combat gamemode. Play stratis map, it's much less boring. Reccomended servers:
For altis- TOP (Type that in the search bar in Multiplayer)
Stratis- SaW Gaming

I'd have to disagree with you on the subject of 3d person. Accuracy is no different, as when you aim, it plops you into first person anyway. With 3d, as you said, perceptive and combat awareness are much better, and accuracy is NOT affected.
