Downloading and Getting Assets from MODS.TF in SFM

The attached video explains why assets downloaded from http://mods.tf are invisible in SFM and shows the process required to get them to work.

(It does not cover "Why is my hat or misc item black when I do get it into SFM?" That is a community based workshop materials thing and you'll have to look into the guides on how to fix materials to repair those.)

Remember, Most (IF NOT ALL) of the misc and hats items on the Mods.tf website are intended for TF2 and used ingame, not for SFM. Therefore, be warned that some items my not fit HWM models correctly. If you find that is the case, Use a player model for your video while wearing the misc/hat you've ported.

Process for porting Mods.TF assets to SFM

You'll notice the the hair on the model is black after it is ported to SFM. This is a common glitch in the Community based workshop items and the way they are creating the materials to be painted. You'll have to investigate how to fix materials in order to repair them. There are some good guides on that right here in the guides section...

I tried exporting a model from Gamebanana and the material names are the same as those of the default scout. Any way to fix?

i have the same problem lad,
nope copied the names and renamed the file
all the models that are exported from mods.tf isn't showing up in model viewer
nah it doesn't, only rigbody everything else is invisible

How didn't it work?
Where did you put the model files? Is the modfolder turned on through the SFM SDK?
Did you make a spelling mistake when renaming the files?
What is or isn't showing up in the Model viewer?
What model name is it displaying, do you have another model named the same in a higher priority modfolder path?
If it appears in the model view but is invisible, does it work if you bring it into SFM anyway (texture limitation in the model viewer problem)?

I used the same blind patriot asset from Mods.tf and did everything required but yet it still didn't work.

Then you're following the steps wrong or the model you're working with isn't following the practices required by mods.tf to work in TF2.
