About

For those of you who are aware of the The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod (TSLRCM) this particular modification is very similar in the sense that it hopes to restore any cut content (within reason) to KotOR 1. While it does not change a great many aspects of the game (as did TSLRCM with KotOR 2), it does provide quite a few differences to the vanilla experience we've come to know and love; KotOR 2 was a somewhat "rushed" release and did not contain much of what the developers intended, but KotOR 1 is more or less "complete". Nevertheless, the content that has been resurrected by the K1R project is a welcome and refreshing sight!

At the time of writing this guide, the current version of K1R mod is 0.9 BETA; while K1R is practically finished, the version of the mod being discussed in this guide is not the final release. Hopefully this guide will applicable when installing the official, complete, final release when it comes out.

For information on what all has been restored or to find out what differences to expect, I would recommend reading the "Discussion" section.
Installing K1R
Go to this link and download the mod: http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/495-kotor-1-restoration/

After downloading, simply extract the file's contents. It is highly recommended to not have any other mods installed before installing this particular mod. That being said, the installation should be straight foward once you click on "K1R_Restoration_0.9.exe". It shouldn't have any trouble finding the installation directory of KotOR 1, but if it does then you may have to adjust that manually. Typically, the installation directory is...
  • 64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\swkotor
  • 32-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\swkotor
Remember that the drive letter may be different.

Wait for the installation to complete before moving on to the next section.
Installing Necessary Fixes
With the current version of K1R available in the previous section, this step may now be unnecessary. You can proceed to the next section. However, if you do find anything wrong with the Taris Dueling Ring, I would recommend coming back and following through with this section.

Download the mod at this link: http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/497-kotor-1-restoration-09-taris-dueling-ring-fix/

Extract the file's contents. It is important that you have already installed K1R before getting to this step. You need to take all the files within the "Taris Arena Fix" folder (minus "readme.txt") and paste them within the "Override" folder of your game installation. You will be asked whether or not you want to replace the files within the folder, to which you should reply "Yes". For those of you who need a file path, here you are:
  • 64-bit Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\swkotor\Override
  • 32-bit Windows: C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\swkotor\Override
Adjust drive letter if necessary.

Everything should be in order; it is time to check whether or not the installation went as planned.
Verifying the Installation
A particularly useful way to verify that the mod installed correctly is to check for the existence of the newly added "Impossible" difficulty setting.

Don't take my word for it, but I believe there may be some hidden goodies for those who use this difficulty.
Discussion
For more information on the project head over to their forums on DeadlyStream: http://deadlystream.com/forum/forum/31-kotor1-restoration-k1r/

Additional things to check out would be the project download page: http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/495-kotor-1-restoration/

... As well as the "Taris Dueling Ring Fix" download: http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/497-kotor-1-restoration-09-taris-dueling-ring-fix/

If you have any problems with the mod, I would recommend leaving the developers a message on this page (you may have to sign up in order to post): http://deadlystream.com/forum/topic/2960-k1r-09-impressions-and-bug-reporting-thread-give-impressions-and-report-bugs-here/

Here are some known bugs that are described in "Read-Me.txt":
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
» KNOWN BUGS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • When in tar_m03ac or tar_m10ab you will not be told to gather your party before venturing forth when trying to go through an area transition with a scattered party. Instead, you will be able to walk through and nothing will happen. Just walk back out of the area transition, gather your party, and head back through. This issue will be fixed in the final version of KotOR 1 Restoration. (Unless I (Fallen Guardian), the K1R team, or any other person we ask for help cannot assist in this matter.)
  • The Iriaz on Dantooine will actively pursue enemies in favor of helping the PC. This is only because I have not been able to make a faction that's hostile to hostile factions, but neutral towards everyone else. Basically, it's the same deal as the citizens in the lower city apartments.
  • Taris Duelists won't respond with correct dialogue when spoken to. (Fixed by the "Taris Dueling Ring Fix" mod)

... And to report a bug:

There are 2 ways to report bugs:
  • Post your issues in the Bug Reporting Thread.
  • PM your issues to ZM90 or Fair Strides at Deadlystream.

TO REPORT THROUGH PM:

For those of you who play KotOR 2, I would recommend checking out TSLRCM: http://deadlystream.com/forum/files/file/398-tslrcm-183/
Credits
I feel it is necessary to show respect and make mention of the actual creators of the mod. These were taken from the "Read-Me.txt" that came with the modification:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
» VOICE ACTOR
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Caalin Ette......................Zhaboka
  • Caalin Ette's Human Assassin.....Zhaboka
  • Pazaak Tournament Mandalorians...Zhaboka
Thanks Zhaboka. You really brought life to the characters, and those parts would be pretty lame without you.

Addendum: 5th attempt finally worked. Enter solo mode, run to far RHS of map, fight and kill ALL of the Iriaz; quicksave (just in case), quickly run to Mandalorian, click through cutscene, fight them. Restoration is generally very good, but this addition is, to my mind, unnecessary and a source of problems in-game.

As below; the Iriaz on Dantooine aggro everything in sight, breaking the encounter with the Mandalorian in the Matale Grounds (just going to have my 4th try at completing the encounter. Other than that they're just bloody annoying. Any way to disable them?

The Iraz are really a big problem, is their anyway to install or update the mod without them?

Does this work with the english version of the game only or is it compatible with other languages too (german in my case)?

Does anyone have reccomandatioins on which graphic improvements we can use together with this?

I know I'm late, but I keep getting an unhandled error when trying to install, and I can't change the directory that it installs to.

Seems to cause more harm than good. Sometimes, something gets cut because it's simply wrong or a bad idea.

I can't get the floder from either Deadly Stream or Nexus. All I get is a file named KotOR 1 Restoration 1.1-54-1-1.7z.
