The Delaware

Description
A level 3 low density residence in the Dutch Colonial Revival, which was a popular subset of Colonial Revival architecture in the first half of the 20th century until the late 1930s, when it seems to be displaced in plan catalogs by Cape Cod houses. This home in particular, however, slightly defies that trend, as it is inspired from a 1945 Better Homes and Gardens plan book. Instead of keeping that plan's attached garage, I opted to instead follow 1920s trends and add a sunroom with a sleeping porch. Since I started out with the stone version, having being inspired by the many stone houses I've seen while visiting family in Pennsylvania Dutch country, I've named this after the Delaware River Valley. Incidentally, there's also a state named Delaware!

Borrowing a trick from SimCity 4 BATers, I have rotated the house by 15 degrees in order to add visual interest.

This contains two assets, the aforementioned version of stone, stucco, and shakes, which does not have color variations, and another version that is purely clapboard, which does have color variations. It's mainly white, though.

-----------------------------

As with my other two house assets, this has 2048x1024 textures, a custom LOD, and uses a submesh for the terrain-conforming fence.

I highly recommend subscribing to all the dependencies!

-----------------------------

As usual, please do inform me of any errors that may be related to this asset.

Also, in the spirit of modding, anyone is free to re-lot or retexture this asset without permission. All I really ask is that a link is provided back to the original here, and that any repurposing isn't used for the expression of hateful ideologies.

If you appreciate an asset enough to want to toss pocket change my way, you may do so over at Ko-Fi![ko-fi.com]

@Lizard: An excellent question, and yes, generally it is more resource demanding (however, it is not truly a 2k texture, as it is 2048x1024.) I wasn't able to get the level of detail I wanted from a 1024x1024 texture though. So, now a lengthy response!:

As for why, I switched to a method of texture baking from a much higher detail mesh onto a lower detail mesh that uses a single texture map ( a technique I learned back in 2020 ) With this method, I can also bake in normals and a slight ambient occlusion for extra detail. However, I just was not getting good results with 1024x1024 textures (the same goes for the lot decals, which are 2048x2048, but are mostly transparent.)

As for a justification, I argue that suburbs are generally less resource demanding than urban areas due to the smaller buildings and fewer amount of cims, vehicles, etc (a counterargument can be made about flora, though.)

Can I ask, why use a 2k texture and not a 1k texture? Isn't this much more resource demanding?

@FalseLucidity Your suggestion fixed the issue thanks for the quick response! This latest series of DCR house assets are immaculate.

@bitsaul: I've quickly looked into the issue, and this asset works without throwing any errors in Loading Screen on my computer. I don't have the local versions of the problem assets in the game, so it oughtn't be that.

If you would do me a favor, could you unsubscribe and then resubscribe to the "Americana Collection - Residential Props" workshop asset? It may not have updated for you yet, and unsubbing and resubbing will force it to do so.

@bitsaul: How peculiar, they ought to be bundled as part of the Residential Prop collection. Thanks for letting me know, I may have accidentally used my local versions instead of the workshop ones.
