Star Wars Battlefront 2: What Are Credits and Crystals For?
When playing Star Wars Battlefront 2, you might notice a growing number at the top-right corner of your screen. That’s your credits balance – the game’s primary currency. Back when the game launched in 2017, credits were essential for buying loot boxes that contained star cards used to upgrade your characters. After facing massive backlash, the developers at DICE reworked the entire system.

Today, credits are only used for cosmetic items like skins, emotes, and poses – all of which are purely decorative and have no impact on gameplay.

But here's the catch: not all players can spend their credits.

Can You Spend Credits in the Celebration Edition?
If you got the game for free on platforms like the Epic Games Store in January 2021, you're most likely playing the Celebration Edition. This version includes every cosmetic item in the game already unlocked from the start – all skins, emotes, and more.

That means your credits are completely useless. You can’t buy anything with them because there’s nothing left to buy. Star cards, which do affect gameplay, are earned through experience points, not credits.

Since no new content is planned and the game is considered finished, your credits will just keep piling up without any use. Unless DICE and EA decide to add something new in the future, there’s really nothing you can do with them. Just ignore the number ticking up on your screen.
How to Spend Credits (If You Don’t Have the Celebration Edition)
If you’re playing a different edition of Battlefront 2, then your credits still have value. You can spend them to unlock various cosmetic items – things like new character appearances, victory poses, and voice lines.

Here’s how:
  1. Go to the Collection tab from the main menu

  2. Choose a unit or hero you want to customize

  3. Click the orange "Customize" button

  4. Look under the “Equip/Unlock Cards” section and select a cosmetic slot

  5. Pick a locked item (these are greyed out and have a padlock icon)

  6. The cost in credits will appear on the right – click to confirm your purchase
What About Crystals?
Star Wars Battlefront 2 also has a second currency: Crystals. These are mostly obtained by purchasing them with real money. Like credits, you can use them to unlock cosmetic content, especially if you don’t have enough credits and want something instantly.

Your crystal balance is shown next to your credits. However, if you're using the Celebration Edition, it’ll always stay at zero – crystal purchasing and spending is disabled in this version.

Summary:
  • Celebration Edition players: You already own everything cosmetic – credits and crystals are meaningless.
  • Other versions: You can use credits (or crystals) to unlock visual customizations for your characters.
