thank for front page

5/13/25: big update, read change notes for new stuff (i have to make new screenshots kill me)

I present to you a reimagining/remake of my first 3 reskins. What else is there to say?

A lot, actually.

These guys have been in the making for a while and I couldn't be happier with how they turned out. It took hours, days to finish these because of personal issues and setbacks while making them (I believe I started working on the textures on the 19th of April) but I'm proud of them and I think these are some of my best work yet.

When I made my first 3 reskins I figured it would just be a one-time thing and I wouldn't do Source engine retexturing or anything like that ever again, but it was extremely fun and the support I got from a few people was enough to motivate me to continue making these, so thanks to everyone who supported these dumb reskins lol.

Anyway enough sappy stuff, time to get onto the actual content.

First and foremost, the soldiers helmet/gasmasks textures have been changed and look smoother compared to the normal helmets. This is because I used the female Combine gasmask texture from HL2:S and just pasted it onto their head. I didn't think it would work but it looked good so I kept it. (They also use the torso texture from that model as well.) The filters for the gasmask have also been changed to resemble some concept art of the Overwatch Soldiers with different helmets, you know the one. Also, all the soldiers have the "890" patch on their back. I made it a bit smaller to be less in the way.

Standard Soldiers are now a brownish-green with a dark blue camo enveloping them, with blue eyes and headsets. They also have a triangle logo instead of the normal circle-triangle one.

Shotgunners are now a swampy green, black, and orange mix and I replaced their armband with a red and yellow "80" to match my inner-city and outer-city reskins.

Prison Guards are now a deep, orangey-red color with a green armband and shoulder logo. For some reason Valve didn't change their headset colors to be white so the standard Prison Guard would have a green headset instead of a yellow one. I went back and fixed it by making the texture white instead.

The Elites are now an ever-so-slightly darker, greyish color and sport a light red "17" logo on their arm instead of the skull. They also have no skull logo on the back of their neck armor.

The Stripped Soldiers look mostly the same with the exception of their pants armor being different and their feeding port being red instead of yellow.

Another thing to note is that when any soldiers die, their eyes will go black. Thanks to Soutrim for writing the .vmt code I used to make the eyes go black.

If you want to, you can get the older versions here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3446186743

Credits

Valve, for the original textures.

Soutrim, for bits and peices of the alpha channel as well as .vmt code I referenced when working on the soldiers eyes, alpha channels, and other bits.

Enri M. Louvre, for the camo pattern I sorta kinda maybe traced over for the soldiers.

Me, for the edits and everything else.

missing information would be nice, as they match pretty good with half-life 2's lowpoly but also high detail models, thank you

But MI or low poly?
󠀡󠀡 May 10 @ 8:04am
Well, I can. I have leftover from my mod - this ridiculous low-poly dogmask, but with improved materials (4 variants), eventually I changed it to MI variant in update. I can send ya models when I get around.

yeah i've tried that too but i also had issues with it. i think at this point i'll just wait until someone else does it

Oh, cool skins you've got here.

Anyway, you can use Skin Editor [gamebanana.com], with it you don't even need to decompile model to change material and its path.

yeah the issue with those is that they really confusing file names for the models, for example one the texture path for the elites is titled comb1ne_5oldier. i've tried before to make a version of them myself without the reskin but i could never wrap my brain around how to do it.

very nice, i'm pretty sure there are some mods that have the weird early frog looking helmet stitched on the retail model like lambdaparadise's mod on gamebanana, and the ones from missing information. not really sure where you can find JUST that helmet to stitch onto the model yourself

yeah this mod changes the phong levels and the normal maps so anything that uses the default normals and phong will be changed as well. unfortunately not much i can do about it
