The Humble Trap

At only $25, the trap is the cheapest item currently available for purchase(aside from the base model of the essential camera). It does little more than hold a wandering creature, or unobservant journalist, in place for short time. There could be some loss of limb associated with operation of a bear trap. But in my experience, this far more of a detriment to the journalist than anything that might be encountered out in the streets as they are now.
As an Exact Science
One on the most overlooked benefits of the humble trap is its photo score. At the minimum safe distance, a photo of a bear trap adds precisely 50 to the score. This bonus is cumulative. More bear traps mean a higher score, and at such a low price... well, I needn't mention the possibilities.

But I shall! With only 30 bear traps, a journalist could take a photo worth 1,500 points. Perhaps even exactly 1,500 points. Now I think you see where I'm going with this. Straight to the front page!

A custom lobby can be started with $2000. The first thing you're going to want to purchase with all that unearned dough is a backpack. The largest you can find. 30 is a lot of bear traps to place and the more you can do at once, the less frustrating it'll be. Remember, you need all 30 traps to be in the same photo and you need all 30 to be at their closest, clearest focus. Another particularly wonderful attribute of the bear trap is that they can be set directly on top of each other. Placing the center of your vision on the center of the trap will result in this ideal circumstance. This part of the plan, however, does not need to be exact. It simply must be close enough to not effect the bonus score of a single trap.

If aiming for exactly 1,500 points, which just so happens to be total points needed to complete a challenge on the lowest difficulty, be sure to check frequently with a spare camera. There should be one lying around somewhere. They are free after all. And don't forget to board the 'copter with a camera holding the singular, precise shot. You can, and should, return to the comfort of your seat imminently after exiting. Wouldn't want to see anything that a proper journalist couldn't resist photographing, would you?
Some Simple Math
Completing a quota of 'two skull' difficulty rating awards $400. Add this to the maximum amount of starting cash in a custom game, and you have $2,400 with which to create something truly glorious.

More than 80 shiny, new bear traps can be purchased for that amount, while still leaving room in the budget for the finest camera to properly showcase your efforts and the largest backpack to hold it all.

So you see, you'll even be enjoying the luxuries of the Diamond Club, once you master the intricacies of the humble bear trap.
One Last Thing!
I almost forgot the most important piece of advice of all: Don't step in your own trap!
