Overview
Balatro Mod Manager (BMM) is a handy way to browse and install various mods for Balatro. BMM is especially useful for downloading and installing the prerequisites for the Balatro Multiplayer mod.
Installation Guide
  • Navigate to the Balatro Mod Manager[balatro-mod-manager.dasguney.com] homepage.

  • Click on Download.
  • (Optional) Select your operating system from the menu on the left side.
  • Select your option by clicking on the download button. Alternative methods for downloading BMM are listed below.
  • Before installing, you should ensure that other Balatro mods are either uninstalled or known to not affect the installation of the program.
  • Once downloaded, run the installer. N.B.: For Windows users, the installer is currently unsigned, and so you will need to click "More info" on the warning screen, and then select "Run anyway".

To see a very well put-together video guide, please see this great one by Bean:

Balatro Multiplayer
To download Balatro Multiplayer:
  • Launch BMM.
  • Click on the "Technical" tab.
  • Download the "Steamodded" mod-loader.
  • Download the "Multiplayer" mod.
When downloaded and you click on the "Launch" button, the Balatro Multiplayer mod will be loaded when the game starts.
Enabling and Disabling Mods
To change a mod's availability without uninstalling it, click on the "Mods" button from the Main Menu.
Click on the tickboxes alongside the mods you wish to enable/disable.
When you are happy with your selections, click "Back".

This will relaunch the game, with your selection of enabled mods.
Disabled mods will appear at the end of the mods list, greyed out and with unticked tickboxes.

Install Locations
Installed Mods

Mods are installed to the Mods folder for Balatro.

This can be found by navigating to the "Settings" tab in BMM and clicking the button under the "Mods" heading called "Open Mods Folder".

On Windows, the equivalent address is "C://[User]/AppData/Roaming/Balatro/Mods".

BMM's Location

BMM is also installed to the AppData folder, but in a slightly different location.

On Windows, the equivalent addresses are "C://[User]AppData/Local/Balatro Mod Manager" and "C://[User]/AppData/Local/balatro-mod-manager".

Both directories are important for BMM to run effectively and efficiently. The uninstaller for BMM is located in the first listed directory.
How to Uninstall
Uninstalling Mods

To uninstall mods, you can remove them manually; however, it is easier to remove them using the BMM client.

On the "Mods" tab, click on the label at the top of the list named "Installed Mods". This will let you see all the mods in the Balatro Mods folder (including those installed outside BMM).

To remove any mod, click on the corresponding red "trashcan" icon.

Uninstalling BMM

To uninstall BMM, you will need to locate where the AppData for BMM is installed.

  • If you created a shortcut on your Desktop, you should be able right-click on it and choose an option to open the corresponding file location.
  • Otherwise, open a File Explorer window and type (without quotes) "%appdata%" into the address bar and press Enter. You then need to navigate up one folder, to select Local > Balatro Mod Manager.

Once you have located this folder, you should see the corresponding Uninstall executable.

Uninstallation Warning

Please remember that removing BMM without removing mods in theory should be safe - however, you must be very careful, as some users have reported profiles in Balatro becoming corrupted due to incompatible mods being uninstalled in a safe way.

My recommendation is that If in doubt, uninstall mods individually one by one, and finally uninstall BMM last of all.

@Zavocado Most likely some things have been installed in an incorrect place or an incorrect order. The Github page for the Cryptid mod ( here [github.com]) has a walkthrough on how to install Cryptid. There's also some good FAQs on the readme page as well. [ github.com ]

@Dr.Archibald I am not certain, my best advice would be to join the Multiplayer Mod server and ask around about Windows 7 compatibility. I'm sure there's a solution, but I do not know what it is. I really hope that you're able to find a solution 🥺

@VodvileJR Is BMM correctly pointing to where Balatro is installed? Normally, BMM identifies where the game directory based on Steam's Path, but it is possible to change the directory to somewhere else. Gut feeling is that BMM is somehow not finding the Balatro executable.

@Dr.Archibald Are you using Windows 10? A quick search into the matter says this is a common issue when a program is made for a newer version of Windows than the installed version, and BMM has been made with Win10/11 in mind.
