I came across this guide after struggling with lag issues in multiplayer,
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2923672646
However, the config file would always reset on saving a world, therefore when the game was restarted the config would be back to its defaults even after setting read-only and disabling steam cloud. This fix will fix this issue, however, note that the config will still overwrite if you save the world, so you must restart the game if you exit a world.
Fix Install & Instructions

Instructions (also listed on the github page):
1. Install the release download
2. Navigate to your tmodloader folder, you can do this by going to your steam library, right clicking on tmodloader -> Properties -> Installed Files -> Browse
3. Drag in start-tModLoader.bat and update-config.bat into your directory, overwritting the old start-tModLoader.bat
4. Simply run tmodloader through steam or start-tModLoader.bat and play as you normally would with no calamity boss lag!

This simply doesn't work for one reason, code-side the value is never read from file if tModLoader version is newer than ~1.4, so the value is always rewritten to 300 in config file

@Cool Naoto Yeah, all friends that are lagging need to download it, if you're the host and you're not lagging you shouldn't need it.

As the host I'm not having any lag/desync on my end but my friend is even after I did this, does my friend also need to do this or is this not the solution for my case?

The .bat itself works well. The people getting the errors do not realize they might need to edit the update-config.bat to include their actual Terraria folder in case it`s not typical.
I had my tmodloader alongside its config files all on D drive, therefore to make it work you have to change the 'my_path' var to sth like "D:\Users\Username\Documents\My Games\Terraria".

If your Documents folder is in another language, you'll have to put the name of it into the update-config bat file so that it works.
make linux version
