VRChat: How to transfer cache from disk C to disk D.
By Kresty
  • When using VRChat, the content you view or visit must be uploaded to a temporary location. This is your cache.

  • By default, the cache on the PC is stored in the VRChat folder in the Windows AppData directory (C:\Users\[username]\AppData\LocalLow\VRChat\vrchat) along with other files that should be stored by the application.
    Since this location is on your main (system) disk, and the default cache size limit is 20 gigabytes, you can move the cache to another location.

  • Please do not use symlinks for this, as you may have problems downloading content as a result. If you have already done this, I recommend that you remove all symbolic links affecting your VRChat folder and subfolders.

  • To change the location of your cache, you first NEED TO MAKE SURE that you have a check mark in the file explorer for "File name extension". create a text document named config.json and put it in the AppData\LocalLow\VRChat\vrchat folder. Open the file using Notepad and add the following lines:
    by specifying the full path to the place where you want to place the cache, I'll show you using the example of disk D:
    { "cache_directory": "D:/VRChatCache /" }
  • The next time you launch the VRChat app,
    It will start storing the uploaded content in the location you specified. You can delete the Cache-WindowsPlayer folder in the default location so that unused cache files do not take up storage space.
