Description
As of 1.37, all protestant denominations now have a way of usurping the Catholics as the HRE's official faith!.. But wait, what about the Orthodox and the Copts?

Introducing: Orthodoxy & Miaphysitism in the Empire
This mod introduces 2 new imperial incidents allowing Orthodox or Coptic nations to usurp the Imperial title, likely at the cost of a difficult League War!
If the Imperial princes like you enough, the Emperor may even offer a Treaty of Religious Peace, but it's up to you whether to accept it.

To trigger these incidents, an Orthodox or Coptic nation must first pass a special decision to dismantle the papacy and Restore the Pentarchy by owning and developing each of the five traditional Pentarchical seats, along with an additional requirement depending on the religion.

If playing as Byzantium, you'll instead need to complete the Restore the Pentarchy mission, and if the Alexiad: Komnenos' Glorious Finale mod is enabled, Orthodox nations will instead trigger the incident by Convening the Ecumenical Council in the mod's special Ecumenical Church interface.

Compatibility
This mod should be compatible with almost anything, and has specifically been made for compatibility with Europa Expanded and Alexiad: Komnenos' Glorious Finale.

I highly recommend trying out the Alexiad OR Orthodox enhancement: Eternal Radiance of Oikoumene mod with my English translation for the ultimate Orthodox experience.

Notes
  • Though any Orthodox or Coptic nation has the option of triggering the imperial incidents, only nations with their capital in Europe can become Emperor. Europe, as defined by the game, is represented as cyan on this map.[eu4.paradoxwikis.com]

  • Orthodox and Coptic Emperors are able to add Christian provinces outside of Europe to the HRE, in regions that were once part of the Roman Empire, such as the Maghreb and parts of Egypt & the Mashriq. But their capitals must remain in Europe for re-election unless the HRE is inherited.

  • After winning an Orthodox or Coptic League War, you must wait a day for the HRE to flip religion. This is a failsafe to ensure the HRE isn't dismantled or inherited.

@Ckasaron
The consistency issue with a second League war is that the game defines the HRE religion after league war as the "official, unchangeable faith". And after fighting a huge war over religion, I think the people of the HRE would be very against some 3rd party coming in. Also League Wars really shouldn't happen after the Age of Reformation.

So if I add something to allow a 2nd league war, I'll make it new separate incidents that are more challenging. But I'm not going to add that right now because I'm working on a different project for the modathon.

@Nolexios Thank you for the event ID.

In my specific game, I was using a ton of other mods to balance the gameplay experience, particularly ones to reduce blobbing rate. Thus by the time the Protestant Reformation had begun, I had only finished conquering most of the Balkans & Anatolia, and hadn't even begun securing Egypt or Italy. I don't have the gov cap necessary to reach all five centers of the Orthodox faith that fast with Responsible Blobbing active.

If you don't mind me asking - why do you say it would cause "balance & gameplay consistency issues" to have a second League War take place? With how late-game wars involve sometimes an order of magnitude more troops than the League War, I don't quite see the problem. Mind clarifying?

@Ckasaron
I disagree that they wouldn't affect each other, but it's also for balance and gameplay consistency reasons. If you want, you can use the console to fire the incident anyway with the event ID Incident_OrthodoxyCrisis.0.

@Nolexios I really don't like that limitation, honestly. If only because the Protestant Reformation and the Catholic-Orthodox Great Schism are two very different rifts - you would think one would not affect being able to do something with the other.

@Ckasaron
No. Once the empire has an official faith, you can no longer fire the incident. It can still fire if there's no winner in the league war though (Peace of Westphalia).

Can the Orthodox League still trigger even AFTER the HRE finishes fighting out its first League War? In my current playthrough, the HRE surprisingly had the Catholics win despite numerical superiority for the Protestants. I was busy popping Rebels as Byzantium and did not intervene.

刀锋行歌(Blade Chanter) is going to upload a CN translation soon.
