GNR Stirling Single no. 1 | Victorian Express Locomotive

Opis
GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY "STILRING SINGLE" NO. 1, 1870

(Historical Recreation)
From Wikipedia:
"The Great Northern Railway (GNR) No. 1 class Stirling Single is a class of steam locomotive designed for express passenger work. Designed by Patrick Stirling, they are characterized by a single pair of large (8 ft 1 in) driving wheels which led to the nickname "eight-footer". Originally the locomotive was designed to haul up to 26 passenger carriages at an average speed of 47 miles per hour (76 km/h). They could reach speeds of up to 85 mph (137 km/h).

With the arrival of the Ivatt Atlantics after 1898, the class started being displaced from the most prestigious express services. Several examples were rebuilt by Henry Ivatt after 1898 with a domed boiler, but withdrawals of the 1870 series began in 1899. The last examples of the class were in use on secondary services until 1916.

The first of the class, No. 1 is the only engine to be preserved. It is exhibited at the National Railway Museum, York. It was restored to running order during the 1930s for the fiftieth anniversary of the Race to the North and steamed again during the 1980s.

The locomotive remains in good mechanical condition, though it has not steamed since 1985."

FUEL CAPACITY: 250 Coal

FEATURES

-Headlamps and tender Tail Lamp
-Front and rear couplers
-Whistle
-Functional cylinder drain ♥♥♥♥♥
-Hand-cranked brakes
-Animated levers

HOW TO START/OPERATE

The operation is quite simple as per my usual design. I wasn't able to fit a proper water glass on the boiler, but it's not needed anyways. As long as there's water in the tender, you're fine

1. Fill up the firebox with coal
2. Light boiler
3. Once steam pressure is up, you're good to go. Brakes are disengaged by default.

-Opening the cylinder drain ♥♥♥♥♥ when starting to move is not necessary. It's just for eyecandy.

-The locomotive is set to have a hard limit on its speed, so you'll find that without carriages the loco can accelerate to its full speed at only about half throttle.

EXTRA NOTES

-The loco is not quite at 1:1 scale. I had to upscale it a bit to work better with the limitations of the game

-The addition of the hard limit to the speed was done so that the loco can pull more carriage at higher speeds than what it would otherwise be capable of if I simply limited its power output.

-No, you cannot uncouple the tender from the engine. They need to be permanently connected for the whole thing to work, and not just because fuel reasons.

-Yes, I am aware the engine's brake crank lever being on the footplate is more than a little ridiculous. I couldn't find exactly where the brake was on the real thing, but that was the only spot where it was consistently placed on models, and all photos and footage I found that shows the cab suggests it's in that spot. From what I could tell the lever itself was likely slotted into the "key" when needed, and in normal transit it was just a stump on the footplate. If you have definitive info on it, please let me know.

Either I'm blind or you cannot access the passenger trailers shown in the first photo.
