CWDG | M1526/12 "Oncilla" High-Speed Surface-To-Air Missile Carrier

In 1982, CWDG was given a request by a group of allied desert nations to build a fast mobile SAM system with plenty of capability. This request was met by a prototype and production vehicles by 1983. This vehicle was called the "Oncilla". The Oncilla was a type of SAM system that utilized a small hull and a large turret to fit plenty of missiles on. The low cost and high production count (roughly 5,000 vehicles) made it a popular pick among poorer countries. However, most of these nations were unable to afford upgrading their vehicles, so most countries retired the Oncilla before 1995, but countries with more money maintained them longer, some Oncillas remaining in service until the 2010s, when they were fully replaced by mobile SAM sites that beat the Oncilla in missile quantity and quality. The Oncilla depicted here is one that was commonly used by Southern nations in desert environments, being fitted with autochaff, gray and brown paint, and the CWDG FIM-92 Surface-to-Air missile. The CWDG missiles were a lot better than the basic SAMs that were previously fitted to Oncilla platforms.
