Unlockable screens fix

If you haven't played the game yet and have just read the reviews, you might have seen people complaining about how the unlockable notifications show up and ruin many of the game's key moments - or, if you have played it, you definitely already came across them. They occupy the whole screen, making it very hard to see what's happening behind them, and also can't be skipped and don't pause the game when they appear.

Luckily, while this isn't fixed officially, it's very easy to solve!

How to fix it

The game has a file exclusively dedicated to keep track of your unlockables, so all we have to do is edit this specific file to unlock all of the extras. If you use Windows, the file is located in %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Way Forward\Clock Tower\unlocks.sft

One important note is that the file doesn't exist until you unlock at least of the unlockables on your own. The easiest way to do this is starting the game for the first time and choosing the Quick Start option in the game menu. After the unlockable screen disappears you don't need to save the game, just quit.

To edit this file we need an hex editor. You can use one online, the one I used was http://hexed.it. Open the file with the hex editor, and eight numbers will show up: these are all eight unlockables, the file has 00 values for locked extras and 01 values for unlocked extras. If you have only unlocked the first one for instance, the file will be like this:

Just type "1" in all of the eight fields, save and overwrite the original file:

After this, you will have all of the extras unlocked and the unlockable screens won't pop up anymore!
