Bus Bays and Shelters

Description
Buses stopping on two-lane streets can be a hindrance. This mod therefore enables the installation of bus bays that are also suitable for trams and trucks and allow cars to overtake. Four- and six-lane streets are used here, where the lanes are slightly narrowed to give a realistic look. Since the bus shelters have to be moved outwards, there are special models based on Vanilla. On this occasion, plinths were added so that the shelters do not hang in the air on inclined streets. There are also versions without ticket machines, since machines at all stops would be unrealistic. In era A they would actually be completely out of place; however, as in Vanilla, there is also a version with a machine. Despite their special function, the bus shelters can in principle be placed on any type of street, including tram tracks.

The snappable asset versions, which can even be used for stop tracks, offer even more freedom. Both a plinth and a mound can be added. The snap distance is adjustable. A small snappable collision tile as a separate asset prevents the AI from building over external shelters. It is also used to level the ground and protects against grass growth.

For freight traffic, there is an invisible truck stop for unloading goods, as the unrealistic vanilla loading points tend to be disruptive in the cityscape and also hang in the air on inclines.

Important notes:

- Bus bays should be at least as long as articulated buses. The bus stop area is created by a four- or six-lane street type. If you simply attach it or use a 'magic wand' update, it can merge with the rest of the street, causing construction to fail. Using the mod tools 'Splitter' and 'Track/Street Modifier' provides a remedy.
- Bus bays must be defined as bus lanes. To prevent trucks from using them, the bus lane must be divided again using the mod tool 'Splitter' and a waypoint placed in the front section, while the actual stop is in the back. Truck lines must then be directed to the inner lane via the waypoint.
- To achieve the stop function at the asset bus shelters - and only here and only on streets - a functional stop sign must be added. Such signs are offered in various mods.
- Bus bay streets should only be used for bus bays if possible. In order not to create an unnecessary number of street types, not all combinations and special cases are included in this mod. The 'Joker Streets' mod can help here.
- In order to prevent the AI from attaching its own streets or exchanging non-developable streets of this mod these are automatically blocked for the AI. For this, either the default setting [KEEP] or [YES] must be selected for 'Player ownership' in the street settings.
- If individual houses are to be built along non-developable streets, you can fall back on collision-free assets being offered as mods. In this way the 5.5 m wide sidewalks can also be built over partially.
- The streets with 5.5 m wide sidewalks are compatible with the streets of the Mod 'Tram: Loops and Curves' and are specially designed to create larger tram radii.
- In the mod dialog at 'Advanced Game Settings' you can set in advance whether shelters from earlier eras remain available. In addition, certain markings can be defined which generally apply to all asphalted street types in this mod, but NOT to the bus lanes on the other streets.
- The collision tile is placed under the bus shelter by snapping it onto the inner edge of the sidewalk (only for 1.5 m wide sidewalks!). The visible rectangular area is mainly intended for adjustment and should be located relatively centrally under the shelter.
- The asset shelters and the collision tile can be found in the asset menu in the category 'Misc'. You can also define your own category 'Shelter' in the mod dialog.
- The fact that the plinth is partially covered by the sidewalk pavement on steeper streets is intended. On extremely steep streets, as unfortunately often appear in the game, no bus would stop in reality - not to speak of a shelter. No plinth would help here either; such cases are to be avoided.
- Labeling or hatching of the bays was omitted in order to be able to use them in a variety of ways.
- It is expressly desired that other modders support the concept. The plinths can be adopted for other mods.

If you want to create short bays and you have the merge effect, please use my splitter tool and then change the center section with the magic wand tool of the game or my track/street modifier,

If you connect a narrow 2-lane road with a 4-lane road and then put again a 2-lane road at the end, you get a bay. My bay roads are only special roads with anotherr width, that's all. Don't choose the lengths too short, the game will merge short segments, perhaps that's the problem!

Tolle Idee, leider zu kompliziert für mich. Kann mit der Anleitung leider nichts anfangen, verstehe nur Bahnhof :) Daumen hoch gibt es dennoch, für die Idee und arbeit von dir. Great idea, but unfortunately too complicated for me. I can't make sense of the instructions, I don't understand anything :) Thumbs up for your idea and work, though.

Yeah I saw them. But if I place them they don't actually create a 'bay'. It's just a normal road

It provides "normal" road segments with four (or six) lanes which you have to connect on each side with other roads with two (or four) lanes. So you get your bus bay - that's all! If you want it to be marked red you have to change the settings in the mod dialog. If you have other issues, please give me more information.

This doesn't work in my game for some reason, it just places as a normal road. What am I missing?

nvm it was an issue on my side
TheYuhozGuy Nov 7, 2024 @ 12:08pm
i have an issue when i clearly select straight lines for the bus bays in the menu the game still displays it as a normal red bus lane

can you describe as a video or collage picture about making the street is not used by trucks too? i still confuse with the step by step instructions. also i accidentally cut/split/divide the street section around 4 parts because the lanes is still used by oncoming trucks.

Great, also solves the issue of not being able to make a realistic stop on a hillside. Which I always found an odd issue for a game developer for Switzerland. :)
