Problem Sleuth

Description
Problem Sleuth, The Hard-Boiled Arbiter, has entered the building!
The titular detective of Andrew Hussie's "Problem Sleuth", is a zoner that performs poorly... if you don't keep up with his GIMMICK, that is.

GIMMICK: WEIRD HUD ♥♥♥♥
One look at PS's hud tells you all you need to know.

This ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of imagery displays various stats that you NEED to pay attention to, including:

-An INVENTORY SYSTEM that can hold up to 5 items that interact with your specials.
-An ICON displaying which variety of weapon you will uses for SOME NORMALS and also said weapons AMMO.
-A MEDALLION displaying what KINGDOM you are ALIGNED with.
-FOUR RESOURCES, one for each kingdom, each with a meter displaying when you get your next DROPLET, which boost your STRONGS.
-3 STAT METERS that affect the strength of your NORMALS, SPECIALS and the aforementioned ALLEGIANCES.
-A meter displaying how DRUNK you are.
-A FACE displaying your COOLNESS, which increases your PULCHRITUDE.
-A HAT displaying your CANDY CORN QUANTITY.
-And a MAGNIFYING GLASS displaying your DOWN SPECIAL COOLDOWN

Master all of them to get good.

A VERY VERY ABRIDGED EXPLANATION OF THE SLEUTH'S SPECIALS:

>NEUTRAL SPECIAL: SHUFFLE inventory selection.

Problem Sleuth moves his SELECTION CIRCLE to the NEXT SLOT in his INVENTORY.

Your SELECTION CIRCLE determines the item your SPECIALS EMPLOY.

>SIDE SPECIAL: THROW ITEM at enemies.

Problem Sleuth lobs his SELECTED ITEM straight ahead. Ridding a slot of an ITEM and SMACKING OPPONENTS in the face with PROJECTILES. Each item has different properties when thrown.

>UP SPECIAL: Gain height by LOBBING ITEM DOWNWARD.

Similar to SIDE SPECIAL, but downwards. The sheer force of throwing an ITEM towards the GROUND BELOW launches the DETECTIVE UPWARDS, so keep stocked if you want to recover.

>DOWN SPECIAL (No ITEM): SLEUTH OUT ITEMS.

When PS currently has no ITEM SELECTED, he will sleuth out one, taking a small while doing so. Upon finding one it will be added to his INVENTORY

>DOWN SPECIAL (With ITEM): USE [ITEM] ON SELF.

When PS currently has an ITEM SELECTED, he will hold it up high and proud, taking a small while doing so. When this period is over, he will engage the ITEMS UNIQUE DOWN SPECIAL, each one doing something DIFFERENT.

>TAUNT: Form ALLEGIANCE.

That's right! He also has a HIGHLY IMPORTANT TAUNT. TAUNTING will make PS select his ALLEGIANCE to one of the FOUR KINGDOMS. Each kingdom boosts its assigned RESOURCE GENERATION along with giving a passive benefit scaled by the RESOURCES QUANTITY.

This was an incredibly surface level description, significantly more in depth guide coming soon.

And that is it!
I hope you enjoy PS! Σ|:0

That makes sense then. I started wondering about that at some point but it seemed so obvious that I thought I would've noticed. You must be right though because that's consistently how it's been working for me since then.

@D YellowMadness I found the video of the match you mentioned and I get it now. When Problem Sleuth uses his key/gun, the ammo is only needed for the second part of the attack (when the key clicks and the gun fires) and is thus only expended when that second part occur, in the clip PS was using f-air but landed before he clicked the key, so no ammo was used. This is an intended feature. Thank you for telling me about issues you've found with the character however, it's very helpful. :)

I was playing BROS' course in Break the Targets when I noticed it. I just checked my video of it though & it's only actually the first use of key that didn't cost ammo. After that, they all did.

@D YellowMadness, can you tell me what circumstances make key attacks NOT use up ammo? As I couldn't find anything in the code that would allow that to happen and also have not been able to replicate it ingame.

Also, I keep getting a problem where the key uses the gun's ammo. It doesn't happen at first but it doesn't take long to start & then never stops. Also, trying to use side special, up special, or down special often just makes me switch item slots instead.

Fun character but is getting & using items incredibly loud for anyone else? Like 3 times as loud as the rest of the game?

I absolutely love this character but I do have to say his platforming and speed make him a terrible fighter, even with proper usage of his inventory mechanics. Maybe make his jumps higher and his run speed a little faster?
