Multiplayer Spore - Playing with your friends through file sharing

This guide will show you how to play on your friends galaxy in Spore. This is NOT true multiplayer; And is basically only allowing you to transfer your save file to a friend so they can play on it.

This might seem disappointing, but is actually very nice for users that want to roleplay on a single galaxy with multiple races. You can have as many players as you want, as long as you continuously share updated save files.

Requirements for (file sharing) Multiplayer Spore

The requirements are the following:

1. You own at least Spore.
2. You can find a place to upload save files. (Google Drive, Dropbox, ect.)
3. You have internet to upload/download all files.

The simpler you make this the better. You can use Spore Galactic Adventures (highly recommended).

Mods are a different story. If they're UI based and do not affect the game in anyway for another user, then you do not need to transfer the mod files. Otherwise mods such as extra spice, dark injection and more will require that you also transfer the mod files; Otherwise the galaxy will become very unstable, creations may be locked, replaced or the game may crash altogether.

Finding the files and uploading them.

Provided your default drive for Spore is C:/ the following directory is where you need to go:

C:\Users\<YOUR USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming

- The folder you want is 'Spore'. Do not transfer the 'Preferences' Folder, as this contains your login information if you are online with Spore.

Can't find the AppData folder? It's hidden by default. You can easily gain access to it through the run command.

Press the Windows key + R together.

The run prompt will open, now type

%appdata%

and click 'OK'.

It is recommended when you're first doing this, you reset your galaxy and start anew. You can do this by deleting or moving the Spore folder. Loading Spore up will recreate a new fresh galaxy with no Sporepedia creations (other than Maxis) and your login data will be removed.

If you want your Spore galaxy to be dependent on mods, you can find them at the following location on the EA App:

SPORE:

C:\Program Files\EA Games\Spore\Data

SPORE GALACTIC ADVENTURES:

C:\Program Files\EA Games\Spore\SPORE Galactic Adventures\Data

This applies to the same route on Steam:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\<SPORE DIRECTORY>

NOTE: If you are making mods dependent, you must transfer these files over if your friend doesn't already have the mod installed!

Once you have everything ready and you've played your turn, you just simply need to upload the Spore folder and the dependent mods (if you have) to your desired cloud, such as Google Drive. Copy your shareable link to your friend and let them download it. Place the Spore folder from the step above in the same location (If a Spore folder already exists, delete it first, do not overwrite).

Place your mods in the data folder if it's mod dependent.

Your friend can now load Spore and play on your galaxy, now all they need to do is play their turn and then reupload for somebody else to play!

SPORE is a highly moddable game and has an incredible library to spice up your gameplay and roleplay.

SPORE ModAPI[davoonline.com] - Removes EA App requirement. There is current an issue where nobody can play SPORE Galactic Adventures on the EA App; This bypasses the launcher and allows you to play the game. As well as load mods in and out very quickly. NOTE: You must run the game from the .bat launcher from now on. Or at

DavoOnline[davoonline.com] - Ran by Davopotamus, a legendary Spore Modder with a wealth of mods.

4GB Patch[ntcore.com] - Many 32 bit process games don't run the full 4GB RAM limit. SPORE only runs with 2GB by default. Installing and adding the SPORE executables will free this up.

Discord[discord.com] - Nothing much to say here. If you're going to have more than two people in the galaxy, then you'll want a place to roleplay and preserve upload links for players.

SPOREPEDIA - Sporecasts[www.spore.com] - Before finishing up on your galaxy, you should spice up the galaxy with Sporecasts that you can download into your Spore client - This will allow more than the generic Maxis creations and allow for much deeper flavour; Everything is saved within the .pollination file, so these creations will carry over. Keep in mind the more creations there are, the larger the file size will be.

SPORE - Galactic Adventures. It's an incredible expansion pack that is required by the SPORE ModAPI. Highly recommend buying, one of the best expansions to a game ever.

Why is it interesting?

Although your milage may vary, file sharing a galaxy that you can all play by taking turns (like how the Civilization series works) can be incredibly fun. The space stage will become the most heavy stage for RP as you make an empire and travel the distance to meet your friend.

Will you make deals, or go against each others back?

The sky is the limit and it's how myself and a few friends played over a year ago. Discord is an excellent platform to host your roleplay. Creating channels and streaming where you discuss anything from intergalactic politics to terraforming, to destroying empires and more. Creating your own lore isn't what this guide is about, but it is easy to form an identity; And archetypes help you imagine what your race would say and do in the galaxy.
