Azur Lane is a side scrolling shoot em up, anime style "Gacha" game. The game is based around the concept of "what if instead of ships being refered to as girls, they were actual girls." The game, being released in 2017, still has an active player base. The game also produced two animes. The first being an action style anime, simply called Azur Lane. The second was Azur Lane: Slow Ahead, which featured more of a slice of life story line rather than actual combat. The game currently has more than 460 characters as of 2024. The game features ships converted into girls from the eras of the Dreadnought era to right after WWII. There are well known ships, such as the Enterprise and Bismarck, and some not so well known ships like the Shinano or Yuudachi.

The wisdom cube is part of the "Gacha" part of the game. Using Wisdom Cubes, which can be either obtained by playing the game or, the in game store, with the in game currency called Gems (Which can also be obtained in game, though typically perchased by real money.) These cubes are then used to roll for a ship to get. You can spend 2 cubes to roll for event ships and special ships, while most others only take 1.
