NOTE:
I usually set the width and height to 1024x1024 in VTFEdit. I've been using XNConvert app (thanks to syahmi2002.sa for the guide) to further reduce the size, typically setting the width and height to either 50% or 25%, though I mostly stick with 25%, but rarely I bump it up to 50% to make the textures less blurry (usually for reskin or survivor model). In-game, I use a FoV of 75, but I occasionally increase it if 75 still makes the gun look very small, similar to the default 50 FoV. Models and Shader settings set to High ONLY for preview purposes, otherwise I set it to Low.

Please read the quote by Táiga Rivers if the game still crashing even after using compressed mods.

High-res textures are usually fine. What really helps to avoid crashes is dividing the high-poly model (mostly the w_models, but the v_models are better to be optimised, too) into several SMDs instead of just one. I did that to all the models I am using, but kept the original 2K textures, and I am playing custom campaigns without issues.
A good example: an HQ G3 that previously was making my game crash when someone with that weapon gets killed by the Witch or pounced by the Hunter. After the model got divided into several parts, no more crashes.
The only problem with that is not all weapon mods are that easy to optimise: broken animations/meshes after re-compiling are not a rare occasion.
Low-end PC owners probably still can crash while playing with weapon mods with high-res textures. A friend of mine was playing on a potato PC, and they had to remove all the high-res mods because the game was quite unstable. Sometimes.
But in general, reducing the texture resolution does not necessarily help against crashes if the model has a hell ton of vertices and is not divided into several parts.

Yeah, no problem at all, and thanks too.
Like a lot of modders, at some point they're just tired with workshop, and either they take a long break or done, and I chose the latter.
I don't even wanna think those people anymore. All of em, you know who, are fucking pathetic, hence they act like some bitches.

Now worries, thanks for the heads-up.

I also wanted to thank you for all of your work and for how much you gave back to the community, even now with this generous guide.
I use your mods everyday and you really helped me enjoy my modded L4D2 again.

You’re more of a figure for me in this community than any of those circle-jerky pretentious chinese modders, with their totally unusable half-a-gigabyte heavy mods.
