Introduction
Last Edit: Sept. 01st, 2024. This is a personal modlist that is based on the famous Blood and Iron Overhaul mod.
Basic Information:
  1. KCD was released with limited modding capability, but it was addressed later on with modding tools for better mods compatibility.
  2. The latest KCD version is v1.9.6, this was released around June, 2020. However, some mods that were last updated prior to v1.9.6 are still working fine.
  3. Usually we will see mods that come with a tag called PTF version, these mods are usually compatible with each other out of the box.
  4. I am not a professional modder, just making this document to guide whoever that is interested and myself for future modding efforts.
  5. A new game is recommended. I mean, chances are that you are coming back for another playthrough since KCD2 is delayed, yes?

Changlog:
  1. 2024/09/01: Initial release
  2. 2024/09/02: Add 'Additional' section for perk system changes
Methods
We will simply use Vortex for the Hardlink Deployment method. If encountering mods that does not offer vortex support, install manually as instructed on the mod page. The procedure should as simple as:
  1. Find the mod on KCD Nexus[www.nexusmods.com]
  2. Read the mod descriptions and the comment section
  3. Download the mod
  4. Unpack the mod with 7-zip[www.7-zip.org] or something else
  5. Drag the folder to the root game directory or the /mods folder in the root directory
  6. Give an endorsement about the mod if you enjoy it

Additional
Note: Some recent comments in Nexus might suggest that a manual installation is preferred over using mod manager like Vortex. This was due to a problem with Vortex earlier. Installation with Vortex should now work without problems.
Overhaul Mod and Fixes
This is to provide a clean and consistent base for our future overrides with other mods.

Overhaul Mod
You should install the mods with the correct load order. The game engine loads the last file on your load order as priority over the files that is higher on your load order. This should generally follow:
  1. Overhaul mod that changes a lot of things.
  2. Override mods that changes the settings of the overhaul mod.
  3. Texture mods.

Let us first install our overhaul:
  1. Blood and Iron Overhaul - with Interface - 2.2[www.nexusmods.com]

Fix the Overhaul Mod
Note: In the comments section that we need to manually alter a file within the .pak to make this overhaul work with v1.9.6. I am pasting the instructions here:

This mod designates saddles as the wrong armor type. Maybe it didn't in a previous update, but it definitely does now. After buying a saddle and it not updating my horses capacity, I did a little digging and found the problem. For anyone that wants to fix it, follow these steps:
  1. Go into your \Mods folder and open the .pak archive file for this mod using an archive tool (7-zip).
  2. Navigate to: Libs\Tables\item
  3. Open the armor.xml file (right click and choose "edit").
  4. Control + H to bring up "find and replace"
  5. Type: (Horse Saddle) --> <row armor_subtype_id="" armor_type_id="4" into the Find What box
  6. Type: (Horse Saddle) --> <row armor_subtype_id="" armor_type_id="10" into the Replace With box
  7. Hit Replace All
  8. You will need to repeat this step for Spurs, Horse Shoe, Horse Bridle, changing the id to 8, 11, & 12 respectively.
  9. Save the file and exit Notepad
  10. It will ask if you want to update the Archive, choose yes

Now, we want to slowly patch up the changes made in the overhaul to provide a better experience.

ENB
KCD looks a bit gray and dull in vanilla settings. We will fix that with the APEX ENB:

APEX ENB
Remember to read the instructions there for correct installation.
  1. Apex ENB[www.nexusmods.com]

How to Install ENB

Installation:
  1. Download the latest ENBseries[www.enbdev.com]
  2. From the Regular Version of the ENB folder, copy and paste only the d3d11.dll and d3dcompiler_46e.dll files into your Kindomcomedeliverance > Bin > Win64 folder
  3. Download my preset and paste all the contents into your main Kingdom come deliverance folder
    (no sub folder)

Note:
  1. This preset is fully customizable through the GUI
  2. If you got a CTD use the d3d11.dll and d3dcompiler_46e.dll files
    from the experimental folder instead.

Note: When downloading the ENB series v0.360 for KCD, we click on the icon to the left of the 'download' text.
Final Checks
That is it. Nothing more to say here. I hope that this is a good blend between good RPG mechanics, immersion, and a bit easier gameplay. Just make sure that your load order is correct and we can be on our way. :)
Additional
I find the perk system of Blood and Iron Overhaul[www.nexusmods.com] not as ideal as Perkaholic[www.nexusmods.com], so here are the fixes to have it working.

Remove BIO Perk System
We want to tidy up some files in BIO to make Perkaholic compatible. This can be done by first removing the perk system from BIO:
Originally posted by AJStoner:
  1. Using 7zip, right-click on the pak file in the Data folder of the mod.
  2. Select “Open Archive.”
  3. One at a time, select and delete the following files:
    • Data/Libs/Tables/rpg/buff.xml
    • Data/Libs/Tables/rpg/perk.xml
    • Data/Libs/Tables/rpg/perk_buff.xml
    • Data/Libs/Tables/rpg/perk2perk_exclusivity
  4. Do the same with the pak file in the Localization folder, this time removing:
    • text_ui_soul.xml

Remove Named NPC
For some reason, the named NPC submod will not work well with Perkaholic. We could mess around with the load order to see if we can fix it, but I'm going to just remove it:
  1. Select and delete the following files:
    • Data/Libs/Tables/rpg/v_soul_character_data.xml

Perkaholic
We can now get perkaholic to work:
  1. Perkaholic - PTF updated (1.9.4-1.9.6) - Perkaholic PTF[www.nexusmods.com]

I would also recommend the following mods just to improve the overall experience. Feel the balance at your own discretion:
  1. Buffed Perks and Non-exclusive perks - Blackbeerd Buffed Perks[www.nexusmods.com]
  2. Mule weight and Feather fall Perks[www.nexusmods.com]

Load Order
With the fixes, your load order for these few mods should follow:
  1. BIO - with perk system and named NPC removed
  2. Perkaholic - PTF version
  3. Other perks override mods

And you're done, go have some fun before KCD2 is out and about. Or not, I'm not here to tell you what to do.

Aye, the initial difficulty is very much so intended for our Henry since he's just a village lad. And later on, with some progression to the story line, Henry will get much better at his skills.

To be honest I am having a look at the blood an iron overhaul and while it looks very convenient and integrates a lot of the mods I already wanted I am unsure if I'll be able to handle the difficulty increase in the early game. I haven't played the game through before and I remember when I did try it for a few hours many years ago the combat was quite difficult already.

Thanks. This is meant to be somewhat vanilla+. Warhorse already made the game for immersion, so these mods gives more QoL improvements. Blood and Iron overhaul might make the game more skill-based. Many of these QoL mods are also recreated in KCD2 as well. Have fun!

This is an awesome mod list, I am really new to the game, and modding in general. Could this mod list be used to play in a vanilla plus style or is this there a big difference between the original game and this mod list?
