JAS-39 Gripen

Description
Latest update:
New wing vapor particle effects. New afterburner particle effect. New mach cloud particle effect. Fuel capacity now 3000L. Fixed SOI switch.

Previous update:
Overhauled flight assist and handling. Bug fixes. Material fixes. Thanks to shi5u (Yoda) for helping with PID tuning!


I recommend subscribing to Jank Missiles and Custom Weapons Base to get more functional and better missiles!


You might know Saab for their cars, but have you ever heard of their jets? The Saab JAS-39 series of light fighter jets were built for versatility and can perform a wide range of tasks such as reconnaissance, air-to-ground and air-to-air.

NOW WORKS WITH VTOL VR v1.10+!


Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Yes it is.

Multiplayer compatibility is not yet confirmed but might work, please tell me if you try!

The model isn't made by me, but heavily edited and "fixed" in some areas. Interior buttons and MFDs are taken from BCAT.

Includes a custom Litening TGP and External fuel tank (3500L).

Not entirely bug-free.


New cockpit model with improved colors, custom throttle, and interchangeable flags

Enjoy the mod and submit feedback over on the VTOL VR Modding Discord @notpolak (Polak) or submit a bug report on here! If the plane oscillates tell me the speed/altitude this happened at.

Known bugs:
- AIM-120 missiles are broken and will pitbull randomly, use the mod Jank Missiles to get working AIM-120s!
- NAV page is a bit broken and the map might glitch out

- New knobs and switches
- Some general cleaning up in the cockpit

Could be an interesting plane. But I won't lie, it's far from 'basic' as it is now. Best of luck, I can't wait to see Gripen in actio.

What I would suggest, idk if you have it, but I could not find it. I would like the yoke (correct me if I said it wrong, English is not my native language) to be ajustable or at least 5-10 centimeters back from it's current location.

Sadly I have no idea what could cause this, most likely a VTOL update or a custom sounds update? IIRC the Gripen has some custom sounds built in which might mess with other sound mods but since it worked for you before idk.. :steamsad:

Does anyone know how to fix custom sounds not working with a modded plane? I used to hear the custom missile warning when using the JAS39, but now, suddenly, no matter which custom sound I subscribe to, the missile warning doesn’t play when I use that plane. If I use any other plane, the custom sounds work fine, so the issue must be specific to the JAS39. How do I fix this? It worked before and stopped recently, and since the mod hasn’t been updated since October, it’s not like a recent update caused the problem. :1986cat:

Awesome work, keep it up! I really, really like the way it looks. I’ve always thought the HUD in VTOL VR was lacking, this one is really nice. The only things I’ve noticed are minor cosmetic issues: when using the afterburner, sometimes the flame goes toward the plane instead of backward, and the map doesn’t always load properly on the screen. Other than that, I couldn’t figure out for the life of me how to turn on the screen that normally shows the fuel percentage in other planes. Like I said though awesome work and I hope you keep this project alive because I love flying this. :evilcat: :bgt_heart:

The ARAD screen doesn't work. It displays ever radar contact, but there is no cursor for it so you're unable to select a radar target, so you're not able to use anti-rad missiles. It's basically just a glorified RWR screen. The hud overlay works perfectly and you can see the exact direction of every radar contact, both on the horizontal and vertical axis. Extremely helpful when trying to locate SAM sites.
