REQUIREMENTS AND COMPATIBILITY
Hegemony requires the Magna Graecia Content Pack and the Heirs of Alexander Content Pack.
Hegemony is definitely incompatible with any other overhaul or total conversion mod, including Imperator: Invictus, Imperators' Navigable Rivers, Terra Indomita, The Bronze Age, Bronze Age Reborn, Classical Rework, and or other mods which changes the map or any game mechanics.
Hegemony is probably incompatible with mods that alter the in-game interface.
Hegemony is compatible with mods that alter the in-game camera, add music, or add, remove, or change map modes.

- FEATURES -
Begin your campaign as one of 407 playable countries, all with historically accurate names, mechanics, and starting situations, including the most famous nations of Classical Hellas:
  • Athênai, the world's first democracy, whose ambitions of empire have facilitated her meteoric rise to power, while her rivals and 'allies' alike scheme to unmake her.
  • Lakedaímon, the Peloponnesian Diarchy and traditional hegemon of Hellas, stirred once more to war as Athênaian hubris disrupts and corrupts the old ways of Hellas.
  • Kórinthos, the city-state of splendor fighting to preserve her colonial empire as Athênaian-backed democratic revolutions subvert her fading influence.
  • Kórkyra, once the foremost Kórinthian colony, now a great naval power, whose new Athênaian alliance brings her opportunity and danger in equal measure.
  • Thêbai, the ambitious leader of the Boiotían League, who hopes to leverage her alliance with the Peloponnesian League to secure herself a path to greatness.
  • Árgos, once Lakedaímon's regional rival, now diminished and weakened but defiant in refusing the Peloponnesian League and remaining unaligned and neutral... for now.
  • Makedon, the last great Hellenic Kingdom of a bygone age, harried by barbarians and Athênaian settlers alike, watching the war unfold with growing ambition.
All playable countries use overhauled and historically accurate governments. The southern Hellenes are largely split between Democracies and Oligarchies. The northern Hellenes, disavowed by their southern cousins as Barbaroi, maintain Chiefdoms and Tribal Kingdoms, while in the east, Parsan Satrapies rule vast swaths of Asia Minor.

- The complexity of the Peloponnesian War is realized with overhauled geopolitics mechanics:
  • With the Alignment system, every city-state, community, and character supports Athênai's Delian League, Lakedaímon's Peloponnesian League, or remains unaligned.
  • City-states enact Policies to guide their Military, Economic, Cultural, and Religious affairs, but every act carries a consequence. Strengthening your population's alignment to your faction aids you in lessening these negative effects through Justifying your actions.
  • Political Influence has been reworked into Authority, required for diplomatic and internal actions alike, and to keep the ever-growing Cult Influence under control.
  • Define your city-state's Pantheon by favoring one God of War, God of Plenty, God of Culture, and God of Wisdom at a time out of dozens of deities.
- The material world of Classical Hellas is simulated through overhauled population systems:
  • Polites (Citizens) form the backbone of your economy, your military, and your politics.
  • Aristoi (Nobles) consider themselves more virtuous and important than other citizens.
  • Metoikoi (Foreigners) offer opportunities for foreign trade deals and commercial gain.
  • Thêtes (Workers) offer their creativity and productivity to power your industry.
  • Douloi (Slaves) produce most of your food and strengthen local economies.
  • Manage and shape your demographics with Edicts, province-level commandments that encourage planning and specializing the individual provinces of your city-state.
  • Hold Festivals to invigorate the province, at the cost of Cult Influence.
  • Invest in your territories using 20 custom, historically-accurate Buildings.
  • Develop the Grandeur of your territories over the course of your campaign.
- Overhauled character mechanics drive new and improved political gameplay:
  • Balance your internal factions as a Democracy or Oligarchy between the militaristic Stratocrats, the mercantile Plutocrats, the ideological Democrats or Aristocrats, and the zealous Theocrats.
  • Character Attributes have been redesigned to inspire Conviction in these factions, leading characters to develop their politics in line with their personalities.
  • Corruption has been reworked into Ambition, which improves a character's capabilities while making them harder and more expensive to control.
- The warfare of Classical Hellas is more grounded and realistic than ever:
  • Unit types and compositions are completely reworked, with an emphasis on Hoplîtai citizen-soldiers supported by light skirmishing units.
  • Naval warfare is reworked around massive fleets of Trieres.
  • Naval logistics have newfound importance as punishing naval attrition endangers every maneuver, and prevents holding position out of port for long without great risk.
... And much, much more!

Hey there, thanks so much for creating this. It's amazing someone has vowed to go and do this. I can't wait to play. One thing I would say though is that Sicily is necessary to any comprehensive replay of the Peloponnesian War!

adding Sicily to the map would be cool

by 431BC, macedon should've been in a civil war, Phillip owned land in the Axios valley and was supported by Derdas, the king of Elimiotis

@kuroi kenshi I love that some folks at Paradox continue to see the potential in this game's modding community and are making a genuine effort to support them! Having reviewed the patch notes, I believe Hegemony should be completely compatible with 2.0.5, though it does not currently require it. Whether or not I implement some of the new code made available to modders through 2.0.5 into Hegemony later remains to be seen.

What's your thoughts about upcoming 2.0.5 patch beta? How it could affect mod in your opinion?

2) I wanted Hegemony to stand out for it's focus on detail and depth in a smaller area, and to accurately and interestingly depict the sheer complexity of classical Greek geopolitics with all the city-states. I knew this would require a LOT of playable countries, and the older version of Bronze Age with the smaller map literally didn't have enough country tags coded in to accomplish this. In the current version of Hegemony, for example, there are 393 country tags coded into the mod, while the Bronze Age Reborn mod only had 259 country tags in the entire Greece and Aegean area of the map (older versions probably had fewer then that). I've cleared the rest of the map of tags, but I've actually been saving all the tags in an archive and then recycling their code to 'create' additional playable countries in my updates.

@E First, that's an exquisite thumbnail/name combination. Second, that's a great point. I did give that some thought when starting pre-production about a year ago, but I ultimately decided to use the (at that time) current version of Bronze Age Reborn as my starting point for a few reasons.

1) Based on my past experience making campaigns for YouTube featuring Bronze Age Reborn, I found the mod to be a little glitchier and technically unstable compared to less ambitious overhauls (understandably so! A custom map is actually really technically complicated to implement correctly). I figured the most recent version of the mod, as opposed to the 'pre-Reborn' original version, would have the benefit of years of technical improvements and stability patches.

The oldest versions of the Bronze Age mod had just the Greece + Aegean area on which it was centered (the other parts of the map like Levant, Egypt, Mesopotamia were added much later, and Anatolia proper only came with CK3). Which IIRC looks perfect for this mod in its current state.

If you can somehow get that old version of the original mod, you might not need to open up and populate the numerous non-Greek empty provinces and parts of the map at all (until you're comfortable with adding new map parts later on). :)
