Introduction
If you are new to Quaver and are curious or confused on how difficulty is represented, then this guide can give you some information that might help.

This guide isn't very professional or technical, so there won't be a breakdown of how Quaver calculates difficulty or have 100% accurate information.

This information can become irrelevant overtime since Quaver is still developing and receiving updates, perhaps the ranges and colors might change in the future.

Glossary:
  • Difficulty Rating - A calculated number that represents the difficulty of something
  • Overall Difficulty Rating - A calculated number that represents the difficulty of an entire map
  • Difficulty/Rating Range - A distinct range for a Difficulty Rating (example: 20.00 - 29.99)

Quaver's Official Website: https://quavergame.com
Where To See The Individual Ratings
If you open Quaver and enter the editor to view a map, you can see color-coded bars that represents the difficulty rating for each section that the editor calculates. You will see 1-8 different colors for these bars, they scale in relation to the highest rating (longest bar), so it's hard to determine the exact rating that was given for a specific section just by looking at the color and size of a specific bar.

  • The area marked in red shows where you can see the bars that display the calculated difficulty of individual sections.
  • The area marked in green shows the overall calculated difficulty of the entire map.

Reference Chart For Difficulty Ranges
Here is a chart that I personally made that shows the range of difficulty that each color represents.

  • I'm not a graphic designer, so the chart isn't artistically perfect
  • This probably won't help if you are colorblind
Reviewing The Reference Chart + Extra Information
The Quaver Ranking Criteria[wiki.quavergame.com] gives standard names for difficulties (maps) in a mapset; Beginner, Easy, Normal, Hard, Insane, and Expert. But it does not explicitly tell what rating of difficulty each name correlates to. The Quaver community typically associates the given names with the color-coded ranges of difficulty, in order of easiest-to-hardest. So "Beginner" usually represents the easiest difficulty range (0.00 - 0.99), and "Expert" usually represents the third-hardest range (30.00 - 39.99). There are not enough standard names to link one to every difficulty range, so (40.00 - 49.99) and (50+) are usually unnamed.

Beware:
The difficulty rating for a map does not completely represent the overall difficulty spread or maximum difficulty of a section. Here is an example:

The Map[quavergame.com] that I used previously is a good example of why you should not trust the Overall Rating of a map. The overall rating is a 29.45, which is a high-insane. But if you open the editor to look into the map, you can see that the peak difficulty of the map is marked with an Indigo color, and is almost the same length as the longest Purple bars. Which means that near the end of the map, you will have to survive probably a 40-42 (just guessed) rated section, which is extremely hard if you expected to be doing high-Insane and low-Expert rated sections in the map considering the 29.45 Overall Rating. An unsuspecting player might try the map, and survive until near the end of the map, only to be overwhelmed with sections that are too difficult. So be wary.
Conclusion
Hopefully this guide on the ranges of difficulty, their colors, and how to use that knowledge to analyze a map will make your experience with Quaver smoother since you will be able to identify estimated ratings of individual sections in a map in the editor.
