Method 1: Reinstall steam
1.
The first step is always to "Check the integrity of game files", (Right click on the game > "properties" > "installed files" > "Check integrity of game files")
but it was not worth creating a separate section for it.

2.
You can try to re-install it by downloading the installer. Make sure to disable all antivirus and firewall software during setup. Have a look at the official uninstall guide to keep all your installed games / software: https://help.steampowered.com/pl/faqs/view/3C73-90F9-F600-0266
(in Manual Steam removal tab)
Method 2: File overview
Open Steam and then go to the "library" tab. Search for The Witcher and right-click on the game and open properties.

Then go to the "Installed Files" tab and click "Browse". A new window should open with the folder containing the Witcher files. Find the json file named "launcher-configuration.json".

By default, the file may fail to open, in this case, right-click on the file and "Open with" > "Notepad". Without scrolling down (in line 20 of the code), find: "platform" : "steam", and change steam > epic.

The screenshot's may not look the same as yours because I use notepad++

Correct the edited file:

The last one will be saving using "file" > "save" (not "save as"!), or ctrl+s on your keyboard

That’s a good try! I think achievement still works as I can launch the game from Steam.

I'm very glad I helped, actually I don't really know how it works. When I face witch this error, I was looking for rev.ini in the Witcher files and then i found this config. I thought "since Steam files are spilling out, I'll change the platform and maybe it will work." I tried with epic and gog, but really, whatever I enter there (except steam) will work, and the only thing that changes is the link that redirects me to the epic or gog website (depending on what I enter), not to steam. I just don't know if the achievements work, the Steam overlay works so I guess they do too.

OMG many thanks! So lucky to see your guide because all the guides from Youtube or others are not working.

If I may, how this works? It seems to be such a slight alteration in the content of platform.
