Overview
For those who don't know, Battle Symbols are obtainable equipment tied to individual librarians acquired by meeting certain conditions during a battle. They generally have extremely minor beneficial effects, and primarily serve a cosmetic purpose.

In this guide, I have compiled decks and strategies that can be used to consistently farm any of the battle symbols available in the game. Want to give everyone on your team dog ears? I've got you covered. Want to give Netzach a full cosplay wardrobe? I've got you there too. Are you absolutely insane and want to collect every battle symbol on every character that can obtain them? I'll do my best to ease the nightmare, you beautiful maniac.

Special thanks to Despair, whose guide I used as a reference while developing my strategies. Their guide has a complete set of images showing Battle Symbols' appearance, which for the sake of keeping an already-too-long guide somewhat manageable I will be forgoing.

As the focus for this guide is on farming rather than on appearance, I've grouped battle symbols by progression, in terms of when they first become available, rather than by equip slot. This has the side benefit of each section being largely without spoilers for later ones. If I recommend coming back to a symbol later, any spoilers in terms of key pages and such will be hidden.

Finally, at the end I've compiled a number of general-use sets for some of the more generic symbol requirements (like 'inflict X bleed' or such). These will *not* have spoilers hidden, as they are intended to be the best, endgame version of what they are.
Technical notes
Firstly, to get this out of the way, there are a few battle symbols whose official descriptions have typos, and some whose requirements are glitched, making them impossible or very difficult to get. I've included correct information in this guide, confirming it by reverse-engineering the code. In cases where glitches render symbols unobtainable, I've included notes on how to patch the relevant code for those who are interested. That said, due to how the code is structured, it's very difficult for me to identify specific pages or enemies except through context. This very rarely matters, but when it does I will make a note of it.

Secondly, there are a number of symbols which are only obtainable by specific characters for various reasons. Most obviously, each floor's abnormalities have a symbol that can be obtained by using that abnormality's pages 10 times. These symbols cannot be obtained except by characters on that floor. Because of their unique circumstances, I've included a separate section for them at the end of the guide. Additionally, there is a character in the game (Binah) who is locked into a particular key page and deck, and therefore cannot obtain any symbols that require equipping a different key page, or using combat pages they don't have access to. I've noted which symbols require specific key pages for this reason. Finally, there is one symbol that can exclusively be obtained by Gebura. This will be noted where it occurs.

For those who want to farm symbols for Roland, be sure to farm any that require particular key pages to be equipped or the use of specific combat pages before the last part of the game. After fighting Olivier in Impuritas 1-2, he is locked to using a particular key page and set of combat pages that makes getting most of such symbols impossible.

Moving on to requirements, some of them as described in-game are a little ambiguous. To clear some things up-

  • Symbols requiring multiple opponents be defeated by a single character also require that this be in a single reception. For example, defeating two of the Rats in one reception, then the third in another, will not award The Pied Piper.
  • Attacks which kill an opponent and reduce their stagger resistance to 0 in the same hit do not count as 'staggering' them. However, if they stagger on one hit and kill on a subsequent one, they do count.
  • Attacks which kill an opponent and also inflict status do count for symbols that require inflicting status.
  • Symbols that require inflicting status a certain number of times count each individual dice of cards that have multiple status-inflicting dice on them.
  • Symbols that require dealing a certain amount of damage do count 'overkill' damage (that is, an attack that deals 40 damage to an enemy with 10 HP will still count as doing 40 damage for the purpose of earning battle symbols).
  • The character considered to have killed an opponent who dies from indirect damage, such as burn or bleed, is almost always the last one to have hit them with an attack dice. I've yet to find exceptions that are relevant.

Finally, there are some minor nuances of gameplay that while not directly related to getting battle symbols do affect the process, a full understanding of which makes keeping track of progress much easier.

  • Combat pages are not 'used', and do not consume light or exhaust, until they actually take effect. Pages with an effect 'on use' will not apply their effects if the target dies or the user staggers before they actually happen, for example.
  • Combat pages with an effect 'on play' do take effect, even if they end up not being used. This is less useful than it sounds due to how few cards with 'on play' effects actually have dice on them and therefore can be 'played' but not 'used'.
  • When changes are made to a die's minimum/maximum value, the maximum takes priority. So if, whether due to passive abilities or status effects or whatever, a die had a minimum value of 4 but a maximum value of 2, it would always roll a 2.

Determined Challenger
This symbol is almost impossible not to get even without trying during normal gameplay, I would not recommend specifically farming for it. It is worth noting that a hit that both reduces stagger to 0 and kills doesn't count, but a page with multiple dice can stagger with one and kill with another, in which case it does count.

If you're determined to get it as early as possible, I recommend fighting the Rats with a deck of 3x 'Charge and Cover', 3x 'Light Attack', and 3x 'Light Defense'. 'Charge and Cover' is guaranteed not to kill Lenny and will stagger except on a minimum roll, in which case 'Light Defense' can safely stagger without killing. Pete can be staggered with a 'Light Attack' (A second one may be required, but cannot kill him without staggering him first), and a single 'Light Attack' will always stagger Mang-Chi (It can kill him, but only if it staggers him first).

Hotblooded Brawler
One of the few battle symbols that's genuinely useful, due to the large HP boost. While it's not at all unlikely for a given librarian to get it by chance while playing through the game normally, it's also not especially difficult to farm. That said, I would recommend waiting until Urban Nightmare to farm for this, as Yujin's key page, and in particular the ability to start with 25% HP, will make doing so much less tedious. There's no real strategy, just fight something weak and wait for your health to get low before finishing them off. The in-game description says it requires having less than 1% health- this is a typo.

Exhausted Comrade
Similar to Hotblooded Brawler, this is much less tedious to get once you hit Urban Nightmare. If you insist on farming for this now, I recommend using the basic 'Evade' combat page in the Rats encounter. If you're interested in farming for this late-game, I recommend combining it with the Deadly Assassin symbol in the Urban Nightmare section. If you don't care about that, I recommend equipping Yujin's key page, with Walter's 'Your Shield' and a Sweeper's 'Liquified Flesh' attributed, using the Frontal Dodge and Beyond the Shadows combat pages and fighting Streetlight Office. This will ensure all your evade dice have a minimum roll of 6, and one of your pages has no attack dice, so you can avoid ending the battle too early.

The Pied Piper
Effortless, though tedious to get on multiple characters since only one can get it per reception.

Unskilled Amateur
Again, effortless. Sit there and take hits. In the game's full release, taking more than 3 hits is fine, contrary to what may have been true in earlier releases, and they can even be taken across multiple battles.

Yun's Office Representative
Another easy one.

Ironclad Brother
Note that this doesn't have to be in a single reception, though realistically it's not hard for it to be. I'd recommend your key page and deck of choice with three of its cards swapped out for 'C-charge Up!' to speed things along.

Rusty Hook
If you're planning to farm for other gifts, I highly recommend waiting until Urban Myth to farm for this one, since you can very easily combine it with Streets of Flavor Cook using the 'Appetite' and 'Cooking Prep' pages. If you're determined to farm it earlier, I'd recommend using 'Gut Harvest' or 'Goin' First', as each of their multiple dice that inflict bleed count separately.

Farming Strategy
If you're aiming to get all gifts on a particular character, as noted, I would recommend waiting on Hotblooded Brawler, Exhausted Comrade, and Rusty Hook. Pied Piper, Determined Challenger, and Yun's Office Representative are all easy to get in a single reception, as are Unskilled Amateur and Ironclad Brother (though you will likely want some backup, as soloing the Brotherhood of Iron while intentionally taking hits with a weak key page can go bad fast). There isn't much different if you're planning on getting all gifts on a particular floor, apart from needing to keep track of hits/paralysis for Unskilled Amateur and Ironclad Brother. Getting all gifts for one character takes a minimum of three receptions, and getting all gifts for one floor takes a minimum of seven receptions, though eight will likely be faster as seven requires losing one floor to the Brotherhood of Iron on purpose which can take a while.

Notes for Binah
This character cannot get Yun's Office Representative, but can actually get Rusty Hook by attributing Kurakumo or Blade Lineage pages, to get the Razor Strike passive and Exhausted Comrade (despite lacking evade dice) by using the Fascinating Fabric pages from the Carnival reception, though it's a bit luck based.
Urban Myth
There are five available symbols in Urban Myth, again, none of which are especially difficult to obtain.

Streets of Flavor Cook
Straightforward. I recommend using Cooking Prep, as it's much more reliable to hit with, and combining with either Rusty Hook or Backstreets Researcher if you're interested in either. Remember, unlike staggering, a hit that inflicts status will still be counted if it kills with the same hit.

Midnight Streetlight
Another easy, if tedious, one.

Lulu's Friend
I recommend combining this with Lonesome Outcast, if you're farming for multiple characters, and bringing characters with no key page equipped along with one with Mars equipped and a strong set of combat pages. Take out Lulu's friends quickly so they can't kill-steal. Dying to burn is ok, as long as Lulu was the last one to attack.

Lonesome Outcast
I recommend combining this with Lulu's friend, if you're farming it on multiple characters. No special strategy needed.

Backstreets Researcher
Another easy one. If you're farming for multiple symbols, this can be a good place to get some that you're missing that don't have restricted availability, like Streets of Flavor Cook or Rusted Chain Link.

Farming Strategy
Overall there's nothing complicated here, just some tedious ones if you're trying to get symbols on multiple characters. Be sure to combine Lonesome Outcast with Lulu's Friend in that case, as doing so gives you a lot more leeway for mistakes in farming the latter without costing any time for the former. Getting all symbols on one character requires a minimum of six receptions, while getting all on a floor requires a minimum of fifteen if you're careful about who goes to the general receptions.

Notes for Binah
This character can't get Lonesome Outcast or Streets of Flavor cook, but otherwise has no issues.

Zwei Honorary Crewmate
An easy one. Have two characters use the Combat Preparation combat page on the same turn to get this on all current party members.

Your Shield
Easy, but a bit tedious. I recommend using Zwei Association III for this, combining it with Unburdened Subordinate. The basic Evade combat page and a key page with multiple high speed dice can help, if you want this on a specific character. It's worth noting that each individual hit from pages with multiple dice counts, easing it slightly.

Unburdened Subordinate
Straightforward.

Courageous Handler
Again, straightforward, make sure to keep track of damage done if trying to get this on multiple characters at once. Both acts count, so you can get this on an entire floor with one reception.

Stray Dog
Despite the confusing in-game description, I believe the only way to get this symbol is to use the combat page 'Brawl' five times in total. It doesn't seem to matter what the dice on the page are replaced with, even if it's by another copy of Brawl.

Professional Hangover Helper
Straightforward.

Drunk Fixer
Note that this one counts the number of times cards are discarded, not the number of cards discarded. Additionally, it doesn't seem to actually require there be cards in hand to discard for it to count (that is, using 'Daring Decision' will always count as one 'time discarded', whether or not there are other cards in hand on use). I recommend building a standard UL discard deck using Olga's key page and three copies of 'Stay Calm', three of 'Daring Decision', and three of 'Gamble' or 'Wait Up!'. This can guarantee a discard almost every turn. If you want to get this on multiple characters at the same time, it's not much worse to use other key pages (though battle performance will suffer), and you can wait until Urban Plague and the Jeong's Office general reception for some other key pages that will make it a bit more comfortable.

Twinkling Analyst
This one is technically possible to get starting in Urban Legend, but is much less of a pain later on in the game. You're very likely to unlock it on a number of characters just by playing the game normally (though unlike Determined Challenger you're unlikely to get it randomly on all characters), and are much better off farming for it later, but if you insist on doing it now I recommend using Rain's key page on up to two 'target' members in the Backstreet Butchers general reception, with a deck consisting of 3x Gamble, 3x Quickness, and 3x Fence, and any key page with two speed dice on the remaining members using 3x Fence, 3x Guardian, and 3x Combat Preparation. Use Gamble to get the target characters' hand size under 3 to proc Rain's passive while they have Quickness in hand and the support character(s) have both Fence and Guardian/Combat Preparation in hand, then have them use the given pages while targeted by an attack that will inflict bleed (either due to being a guaranteed hit, being outsped and not clashing, or by targeting the third enemy). This will give the targets bleed, strength, protection, endurance, and haste on the following turn, earning the symbol. The Fence on the target characters is for extra safety.

After Urban Plague, getting this symbol is much easier- you can make a similar strategy to the above much faster and more consistent by using the Kurokumo Reception, which survives longer and inflicts bleed more consistently, using A Workshop Fixer's page with Speed attributed for consistent strength, and substituting Gamble for C-charge Up!, with some Fences swapped out for Guardians.. If you're at endgame, a 100% consistent setup that doesn't rely on any abnormalities is using Bayard office key pages to get Strength and Fragile each scene, one with Nikolai attributed and charge pages (giving themselves Charge and everyone Endurance), and the others with smoke self-inflicting pages and Confrontation (gives themselves Smoke and everyone Protection) against anything that lets you bring 5 people that you're comfortable fighting with this setup or that you don't mind losing the books for.

Farming Strategy
As noted I heavily recommend waiting on Twinkling Analyst until you have more tools available, but none of the others are especially difficult. Drunk Fixer requires a specific deck and is made easier by specific key pages, while Stray Dog requires a specific card, but neither requires being done in an Urban Legend reception, so they can be easily cleaned up if going for other symbols without those requirements, like Backstreets Researcher. Taking that into account, getting all symbols on a single character requires a minimum of four receptions (five with Twinkling Analyst) and on a floor requires a minimum of twelve (fifteen with Twinkling Analyst).

Notes for Binah
This character can only get Zwei Honorary Crewmate, Your Shield, Courageous Handler, and Twinkling Analyst, for obvious reasons. Twinkling Analyst requires a slightly different strategy, but isn't very difficult if you use a reception that inflicts a lot of different effects like the Thumb and have the other characters focus on support.
Urban Plague (Pt. 1)
There are twenty-four available symbols in Urban Plague, with the difficulty starting to ramp up. To save space, from here on I'm only going to have individual strategy sections for symbols with significant strategy to them, beyond just 'use XXX key page and win'.

Pointed Spear
The symbol doesn't care what pages are in your deck, just those you actually use. It does take EGO pages into account, so don't use them carelessly.

Is Fascinating?
Contrary to the description, Is Fascinating? only cares about the number of times Will Make Fine Silk is used. It can be done any time, so if you're also aiming for other symbols without strict deck requirements it can be good filler, and especially synergizes with Dark Cloud as noted later.

Bleed-related Symbols
Most of the bleed-related symbols can be farmed with a general-purpose bleed set, and paying attention to enemy health and weaknesses to ensure they die at the right time. I have a general-purpose endgame bleed set towards the end of the guide, but for now you can just use Kurakumo key pages and Beyond the Shadow, Tailoring, and Gut Harvesting to consistently build up bleed. It's worth noting also that Sharpened Sword doesn't care who inflicted the bleed status, only that an enemy dies to bleed while the character is alive.
Urban Plague (Pt. 2)
Dark Cloud
The symbol requires having seven pages in hand when the card is used, so you need at least eight pages in hand before including Ink Over to get it. Make sure not to use multiple pages and accidentally dip below eight, cards are removed from the hand at combat start rather than when they're used (though they are returned to hand if unused under normal circumstances). This is good to pair with Is Fascinating? since Will Make Fine Silk replaces itself on use, and of course Sayo's passives help a lot.

Enraged Striker
It doesn't matter if your pages are ranged or melee, but does only count clash wins with attack dice. This one is very easy to get through normal gameplay, though farming it isn't difficult either.

Lily-livered Chick
Note clash loses only count once per page. If you don't mind risking losing, bringing three characters in Full-stop gear to the Carnival reception and aiming to clash against Feast or Will Make Fine Silk with Take The Shot or against Tailoring with any of the 1-cost pages will very likely result in a clash lost to an offensive dice. It's of course easier to do later and over multiple acts if you can afford sacrificing the characters.

Miau Miau Kitty
This is a bit easier to get later on, but not too unreasonable right now. Observe gives 3 strength, Workshop Affiliated Fixers' Solidarity passive gives 1 more, and the last can easily be covered using The Red Notes/Unforgettable Melody in a couple tries. Once you hit Star of the City, the Bayer's Office passives make this trivial.

......? Bunny
The check for how many times you inflict feeble doesn't care about the source, so passives help and Heavy Peaks counts as two inflictions for example.

Oinkie Oink Piggy
Due to how light is calculated, this can be annoying to deal with. It compares the amount of light before and after a card is used, so using 0-cost light restoring pages at max light has no effect for example. Outburst and Hard Rehersal are the best pages to use at this point, but it's much easier to get consistently once you hit Star of the City and get Sword of Volition, which can be combined with 0-cost light-restoring pages to guarantee the symbol in a single scene.

Blazing Dawn
Philip's combat pages (Stigamtize, Searing Sword, and Feather Shield) don't count as Dawn Office pages. Sunset Blade is the most efficient card to use for this, for obvious reasons.

Unstable Ego
Contrary to what the description implies, symbols like Unstable Ego only require the character to survive the final act of the fight.

Unrelenting Veteran
This is the hard one. I strongly recommend waiting until Urban Nightmare (and in particular Yujin's key page before farming for this one to make it significantly less tedious and luck-based. If you insist on doing it now, there's no better strategy than just almost finishing off a multi-floor reception, leaving one enemy barely alive, losing on purpose, then switching in Oscar with no allies to sit and take hits until Unrelenting activates and then finish them off. Note that Unrelenting affects damage from status conditions and self-inflicted damage as well as opponenets' attacks- burn or bleed damage can cause it to proc, and also have their damage reduced by it for the scene it's active.

As of Urban Nightmare, you can pretty comfortably get this on a character by attributing Yujin's Kizuna/Extreme Fatigue and Deflect Assault, and Sayo's Battle Ready using a deck containing light restoration and three Wrath of Torment. Repeat the earlier process, leaving a single enemy alive, but at higher health, and both trigger Unrelenting and finish off the enemy using Wrath of Torment. This also dramatically reduces the risks of using faster but riskier methods, like the one I recommend in the Wedge Office section.

Of course, this symbol can also be gotten extremely easily using this strategy on Geburah's floor if you can get Mountain of Corpses or Tiphereth's with Blind Rage.

Gaze Office Symbols
I recommend using a single build to get all four Gaze Office Symbols, Dalloc with Sayo's Battle Ready and Alloc's Bzzz Bzzz attributed, and a deck consisting of 3x Opportunity Spotted, 3x Binding Arms, and whatever card draw/light restore is available. I recommend using the Kurakumo reception to farm this, along with any other generic Urban Plague symbols you need, since there are a lot of relatively easy enemies to burn through ensuring you have plenty of time to make sure you finish them off with Dalloc and get your other pages used.

Bona Fide Gambler
I recommend using a build of Hanafuda with Sayo's Battle Ready attributed and a deck consisting of 3x Sakura, 3x Stay Calm, and 3x Relay to ensure you can use Sakura every turn. Note that Sakura's effect only activates if you have four pages in hand when it is used, so you need at least five including Sakura itself and can't really use more than one per turn. Other Jeong's Office fixers can also use this build, albeit a little less reliably due to the light cost.

Workshop Solidarity
For this, and other symbols that require winning a lot of clashes, I recommend using cards which start with a powerful evade dice, like Frontal Dodge, against enemies using multiple weak attacks, to both ensure you get into a lot of clashes and that the opponents survive long enough for you to reach ten.

Farming Strategy
Most of the symbols are generic within the chapter, rather than being tied to a specific reception, so you have a lot of flexibility. The symbols related to Gaze Office, as noted, are all easy to group together, and there's a strategy I outline in the next section to reliably get most of the Wedge Office symbols as well. Both can and should be combined with the other generic symbols if you intend to farm them on an entire floor. Overall, while bad luck is likely to add a few, you can get all symbols on one character in a minimum of 12-14 depending on how riskily you play, and on an entire floor in about 15-20.

Notes for Binah
Aside from the ones requiring specific key/combat pages, while Binah can just barely get Kurokumo Henchman by attributing Kurakumo passives against the slash-resistant townspeople in the reception of Tomerry, it is extremely difficult and completely luck based due to the clash mechanics of the battle. The best strategy is to bring three full-defense Udjat builds as allies, using the general purpose set, and use them to handle the clashes while Binah tries desperately not to kill the townspeople too quickly.

Aside- Wedge Office Symbols
The symbols Imperfect Ego, Accuminate Wedge, A New Corpus, and The One Who Pierces (and Unrelenting Veteran to a lesser degree) are all tightly tied together, requiring the Wedge Office reception to get, and mostly requiring particular key pages and strategies.

With the right setup, Accuminate Wedge, A New Corpus, and The One Who Pierces can all be comfortably obtained on a character once per clear of the Wedge and Dawn Office receptions, minimizing the amount of farming required for those trying to get all three symbols on the same floor, while opening opportunities to farm a number of the more generic symbols as well. This becomes much easier if you've at least hit Urban Nightmare, and significantly easier again once hitting Impuritas Civitatis, to the point that it's not really worth recommending over the slow, obvious strategies before then. As such the remainder of this section will not be spoiler tagged for progression through Urban Nightmare, so don't keep reading if that's a problem.

For Oscar's deck, use a singleton deck with 333... 1973 (for safety), Will of the Prescript (to keep hand full), Transpierce (to deal final blows), Mend Weapon (for light/utility), and other pages of your choice. If you've hit Star of the City, I recommend Wedging Thorn, Shoving Stab, Sturdy Defense, and Lacceration. If you've hit Impuritas Civitatis, swap out Transpierce for Celestial Spear and add Brace Up. These recommendations are to add consistency and speed things up, but the strategy is definitely still viable without them. For passives use Sayo's Battle Ready and all of Yujin's attributable passives except Overbreathing/Exhaustion. If you've hit Star of the City, use the Night Awls' Stiletto instead of Eye of Death/Enervation. For team-mates, I recommend bringing one all-rounder and one offensive but fragile one, personally using my Hanafuda set from the Bona Fide Gambler section and a Jikan with self-inflicting bleed pages to double up on farming. Focus on weakening Phillip then taking him out with Oscar, and then on taking out Yuna. Most likely at this point your allies are already close to death, so let Salvador finish them off while setting up Oscar to finish things with a strong attack. This strategy can fail if Oscar is targeted too often, though 333... 1973 can be used to get a second chance. If your allies aren't dying fast enough, try leaving Yuna as the survivor instead of Salvador, but make sure Oscar has the tools to deal with her strength buff. If you're feeling really spicy, intentionally trigger 333...1973 to farm for Persistent Vitality as well at the cost of 1/5 runs failing.

For the Wedge Office reception, swap Yujin's passives out for any generic power-increases, bring Pamela, a character using Smoke, and two other generic UP symbol farmers, and go ham, making sure to finish off Philip with Oscar in both phases and Pameli with Pamela. Pamela's deck should focus on slash damage to make the most of Pameli's weakness, but should also contain Transpierce (or some other strong single-dice page). The smoke character should attack Oscar- make note of when his health starts getting low and stagger him, then spam your strongest single hits on him. At least one character will almost certainly get The One Who Pierces, likely more than one. Again, if you failed to Persistent Vitality in the last reception and want to live dangerously, you can keep the same set for Oscar as the Dawn Office reception, making sure to keep him healthy through the first act and using the guaranteed burn damage from Phillip's phase 2 to trigger Unrelenting and then activate 333...1973. I don't recommend using this to get Unrelenting Veteran, as keeping Oscar alive while killing everyone else is extremely difficult, with the exception of Tiphereth and Gebura's floors.
Urban Nightmare (List)
There are 17 available symbols in Urban Nightmare, plus one which is in the game code but unobtainable in the release version due to a bug. Most are fairly tame, though there is one extremely nasty one.

As mentioned, there is one additional, unobtainable symbol:
Lifelong Companion (Unobtainable)
Eye
10% chance to boost damage by 1 with Noah's page passive attributed
8 o'Clock Circus (Urban Nightmare 3-1)
None
Defeat Emma and Noah while they are one unit

In the game's code, when you defeat Emma it's meant to check if they're affected by a status that corresponds to having Noah riding them, and give you the symbol if they do, but due to a typo it instead checks the attacker for this status (which of course they'll never have).

If you want to fix this and are playing on Windows, it's relatively easy to do so- decompile and edit the file LibraryOfRuina_Data\Managed\Assembly-CSharp.dll and change 'this' to 'target' on line 2007 of the BattleUnitModel class. If you're having trouble finding it, you can search for the text 'PassiveAbility_240008' which is part of the line. If you're not used to messing around with .dll files, I recommend making a backup copy of the game data folder before trying this, and even if you are I recommend backing up the file itself (though I'd assume you know that already).
Urban Nightmare (Details) (draft)
Deadly Assassin
This one is straightforward, now that Yujin's key page is available. Now is also a much better time to farm for the Hotblooded Brawler and Exhausted Comrade symbols, which require surviving a reception with <10% HP and winning 10 clashes with evade dice at <25% HP respectively. I already mentioned these earlier, but just so they're all in one place, a good setup for this is to use Yujin with a Sweeper's Liquid Flesh and Walter's Your Shield to get +2 evade dice power and the combat pages Will of the Prescript, Frontal Dodge, Beyond the Shadows, and Faint Memories for high-powered initial evade dice. Note that unlike the other two symbols, Deadly Assassin requires specifically Urban Nightmare enemies.

Precious Family
Easy to get by surviving through a reception with 9+ enemies. Note that you can attribute the passive if you don't want to use the Sweeper key pages. The available receptions to use in Urban Nightmare for this are the Sweepers (appropriately), the Crying Children, and the Puppets.

Late Night Sweeper
It's worth noting that the symbol counts when the reroll is triggered, not when it actually happens. This means that if for example the last dice hits with a 3, then hits with another 3, then finishes off the enemy with another 3, you're given credit for three rerolls even though the last one was never actually used. Trivial to get just through brute force, but if you wait until Star of the City and get the Purple Tear it'll be significantly faster, and using Olivier from Impuritas Civitatis you can guarantee the max number of rerolls as long as the emotion level is low enough.

Persistent Vitality
Hitting 0 HP with the status active will trigger the symbol, whether or not it actually activates.

Shi Association Member
I'm pretty sure the only way to get this symbol is from the combat pages 'Set Fire', 'Wrath of Torment', and clashing with 'Desperate Struggle', along with a couple anomaly pages (that aren't really worth using due to the RNG requirement).

Boundary of Death
I'm almost certain that there is a glitch here making this symbol harder to get than it should be, in particular that gifts obtained on winning a parry aren't given if the opponent is staggered by the attack.
Putting that aside, I recommend using whatever draw pages you can to ensure you have Boundary of Death in hand and haste to make sure you can force the clash. Strength would also be good to have if you can fit it in comfortably, but be careful to make sure you have enough light to use Boundary of Death whenever it comes up. Having the Musicians of Bremen pages that give strength to allies on your other party members is likely better than having strength-granting cards on Yujin themselves.

The Smiling Mask
This one's trickier than it looks- the check for 10+ smoke happens after pages are 'used', but before the actual dice are rolled. So for example, if you have 10 smoke and use Trace of Fumes against an enemy with 9 smoke, and hit with the first dice and clash with the second, you won't get the symbol even though you both would have 10 smoke at the time the second dice clashed. On the other hand, if your Inhale Smoke clashed against an opponent's Smoking Pipe while you were both at 8 smoke, you would get the symbol. This is tricky to engineer, and almost impossible outside of the Smiling Faces reception, but will become much easier with some Star of the City pages. If you want to do it now, the best setup is one of the Smiling Faces key pages with Inhale Smoke, Smoking Pipe, and Deep Drag. If you're coming back to this after Star of the City, A Church of Gears Worshipper's Internal Combustion Engine, Guidance of the Gears, Smoke Blow, and Smoke Smash make this a lot easier.

Gigigig Creak
Unlike similar symbols, there are no restrictions on the type of dice used for clashing. Since the puppets have +1 blunt dice power, as long as you have no boosts you can guarantee three clash losses by using Light Defense (or Opportunity Spotted, which gives more emotion coins if you care about that). Haste is also useful to redirect the attack to the relevant character.

Overloaded Charge
You need to actually be affected by the immobilization for it to count, no getting around it by making yourself immune sadly. Good to combine with the other W Corp. symbols.

Intelligence Gatherer
Note that the only resistances that are affected by it are 'endured' (not 'resisted'). The Crying Children are an excellent place to farm this one given the sheer number of resistances available to nullify.

Wandering Swordsman
Much harder to get than it looks. Kim's passives are set up to make losing a clash with 'Yield My Flesh' as difficult as possible, especially at this point in the game. After all of Kim's bonuses, the dice of Yield My Flesh rolls for 9-14. The easiest ways are to fish for clashes against Deep Drag vs the Smiling Faces or against Valentin's Extreme Edge once he's solo. It's also possible to lose clashes against W Corp's Overcharge, and much more rarely against the Index Proselytes' Execute (when boosted by their passive) and Seven Association's Fleche. The 8 o'Clock Circus reception can also be used, which can be an okay backup if you're looking for those symbols as well, but requires some setup, ideally getting your Kim paralyzed on a turn where Emma also gets 3 strength (and has Noah), clashing against their ranged attack. This one isn't limited to Urban Nightmare, so it'll be easier to get later (though not monumentally so).
For deck recommendations, go for draw power (to get Yield My Flesh in hand) and haste (to make sure you can force a clash if necessary). You can use 'C-charge Up!' to self-inflict paralysis for a tiny edge in clash losing. Light isn't super important since while 'To Take Their Bones' is expensive, you can afford to take your time using it. The requirement is per reception, not per act, so pulling it off once per act is fine.

And now the big one...
Space Ripper
...Yep. It's actually that bad. At least there are no restrictions on where you can get this symbol, so if you really want to get it you can just roll your D100 in Canard receptions over and over. This is one of the few symbols that, if you're open to modding the game, I heavily recommend tweaking- modifying the same dll file mentioned for Lifelong Companion, line 37 of class DiceCardSelfAbility_warpSkill lists the condition for getting the symbol as 'this.chargeStack >= 10'- to preserve the spirit of the challenge while making the RNG manageable, I would recommend changing this to something like 'this.chargeStack >= 5'. Otherwise, use Rewind + Dimensional Rift (or Overcharge, if you want to pair this with the 'Overloaded Charge' symbol) and pray.

Farming Strategy
Many of the new symbols aren't locked to Nightmare receptions, meaning now is a good time to go back if you're interested in farming older ones. Ignoring the pure RNG symbols, you can easily get all symbols on one character in about 6-7 receptions and one floor in about 16 receptions. I recommend combining all the W Corp. symbols and The Prescript's Will, giving Rose the 'Grace of the Prescript' passive and a deck consisting of Leap, Overcharge, Rip Space, and light restoration (you can use the other named W Corp. key pages as well, though they'll suffer from the lack of Speed). The Sweeper symbols can be similarly combined, though I recommend saving Late Night Sweeper for later, and can easily fit in specific combat pages like the self-damaging ones and the Gigigig Creak clash losers. If you're aiming to get them all on one floor, I recommend trying to combine Boundary of Death and Wandering Swordsman, prioritizing the former, and using the 8 o'Clock Circus as backup attempts for the latter.
Star of the City- Simple Symbols (WIP)
Star of the City has 40 symbols, which I've decided to split into three groups- 18 'simple' symbols, with requirements that are easy to understand and don't require any significant setup or explanation, 14 'general' symbols, which are worth some discussion and may have particular tricks or setups to make them easier to get, and X 'boss' symbols, which generally involve using a particular boss key page and their unique combat pages in a particular scenario, some simple and some quite tricky to set up.

Farming Notes
The only things to really mention here are that Emotional Turbulence checks living and dead allies (but only on the floor that finished the reception), The Messenger passive can be attributed contrary to what you might expect (so can be gotten on Binah), and while the various helmets are a bit RNG dependent, you can check which ones will show up in the reception by scrolling through the acts before beginning it as long as you've cleared it once. Whipped Mind is another awful RNG-fest, thought not nearly as bad as Space Ripper. It only cares about the die's current max value rather than the actual number or damage, so you can't cheat it with buffs/nerfs. Remember that you can redirect attacks with higher speed to a character that wants it. If you're interested in modding it, as with Lifelong Companion or Space Ripper, the relevant code is line 1643 of the BattleUnitModel class (includes the text 'battleDiceCardModel2.GetID() == 608005'), with the condition being 'atkDice.DiceVanillaValue >= atkDice.GetDiceMax()'. It's not as interesting as the Space Ripper tweak, but you could simply modify it to '>= atkDice.GetDiceMax() - 5' or something similar. Also an option would be to reduce the number of required hits, at line 431 of the UnitHistoryModel class (originally reading 'if (this.hitByWhipMax >= 3)').

Ultimately, ignoring the RNG requirements for Whipped Mind and the various helmets, the requirement for finishing off all three bosses is the main obstacle, so these symbols can all be gotten fairly comfortably in 3-4 receptions per character. Reference the section on endgame builds for recommendations for the burn/bleed symbols.

Notes for Binah
Most symbols are either obviously possible or obviously not, but it's worth noting specifically that once again the bleed symbol can be (somewhat tediously) gotten by using the Kurokumo passives and her cards with slash dice. Despite the high value of bleed required, the increased enemy health makes this much easier than the equivalent symbol in Urban Plague. Bitter Reunion and The City's Messenger can both have their relevant pages attributed to hers to get them.
Star of the City- Generic Symbols (WIP)
Star of the City has 40 symbols, which I've decided to split into three groups- 12 'R-corp' symbols, 'generic' symbols with requirements similar to symbols we've seen before, 9 'boss' symbols which involve using boss characters' unique combat pages, and 19 'generic' symbols with less specific requirements.

Boss Symbols

Varkolyn_Boss 12 nov 2024, ore 20:14
Yoooo Good Guide friend. I have farmed a lot of Battle Symbols from Urban Nigthmare, Star of the City and Impuritas Civitae. I have made some decks to consistently farm several overbearing battle symbols on most treath levels. I know nothing about format but if you want dm me and I can help with the WIP parts
