Kicked by Punkbuster? This is how you fix it on Windows and Linux/Steamdeck!

Update 2: It seems to work again!

Update 1:
EA seems to broke Punkbuster either on purpose or by accident on September 6. It worked like this since it was necessary around 6-7 years ago. Now updating Punkbuster no longer works properly or at all on some systems.
i tested it on two Windows 11 systems and my Steam Deck and i was not able to get BF4 to run on any of them. Even the Server Browser is no longer working and the game is basically dead since that day.

You want to play Battlefield 4 but Punkbuster kicks you from the server?
Here is a quick and easy guide for how to patch Punkbuster on your Windows or Linux System (Incl. Steamdeck)

1. Go to evenbalance.com (The Official Provider for Punkbuster)

2. Select "Downloads" in the top middle of the page.

3. Download the PBSetup utility for Windows in the first row.

4. Unzip the PBsetup.exe and launch it.

5. When the Software is open, select "add a game", then select Battlefield 4 and check if the Path is correct.

6. let the Software Patch Punkbuster.

Start the game and have fun!

You are now able to play Battlefield 4 on all Punkbuster protected official and community servers.

Punkbuster on Linux/Steamdeck

Download the same Windows .exe and not the Linux specific software!

Start the Software with Wine, open your Linux File Manager, copy the path to the BF4 Folder and paste it into the Punkbuster Software. It will patch the Game just like on Windows and you can immediately play online without further modifications.

Ah thx Kong. I received an update today and it erased the Punkbuster installation.

But I think this update was triggered by changing Steam account somehow.

so if punkbuster is the issue why do all battlefield games kick me ? dosn't bf1 run on a different anticheat now?
