NIGHTMARE
189 items
Description
This is a Cry of Fear re-texture project.

I got sick of vanilla's recycled hl2 textures everywhere, so here we are.
A total conversion mod that also changes color corrections, and skyboxes.

I made this purely for my Nightmare mod pack.

  • It's a horror toned hard mode of sorts.
    If you're a vanilla die hard snob, this isn't for you.
    I won't alter anything, it's perfect for my needs.

This is exclusively for use on your local server or single player.

The primary focus here were the original L4D1 maps, but mainly No Mercy.
As far as striking a balance between COF & Left 4 Slop goes, this is sufficient.
I didn't put the same amount of effort into L4D2 campaigns, I barely play them.
All color corrections, texture work, ssbumps/normals, are made by yours truly.
Credit for the city texture on No Mercy goes to Ceno, I dimmed & recolored it.

Make sure your game is set to full-screen mode.

Avoid using reduced reflections, or any other addons like those generic 4K HD overhauls.
Subbing to mods that mess with any vmt files will end up breaking everything.
Normal maps and ssbumps only appear on the highest graphics settings.

Textures only, and other versions of Psykskallar Aesthetics

* Lite Version.
* Alternative CC's.
* Old Skyboxes.

what's this wall of text for
"If you can't take slight criticism despite there being an obvious praise for the mod everywhere else in my comment, then modding isn't for you. Move on."

Take it from a senior-modder of the L4D2 scene (back before Workshop was even a thing): You're going to get people who completely full-blast you, then you'll get comments like these. If you can't even handle this, then maybe it's not the right scene for you.

Seriously though, all I did was mention that the darkness and fog render distance made it difficult to see, I didn't say it was impossible. I recommended a tweak, and your rebuttal was "It's not for you then, move on"? :steamthumbsup: Good on you mate, a simple "I probably won't do that, but thanks for the comment" would've sufficed. 😂

if you struggle playing this with default brightness then this mod isn't for you, move on.
I love the mod, but even with my brightness turned all the way up, it's like really super dark to the point where I can't even see a tank in front of me. Wish there was a version that had the fog render turned up at the very least. Still a great feel/tone though.

I like it, as a challenge because the darkness fits well.

can i have permission to edit your cc's? ppl probably dont feel the same way but i feel like it's a little too dark compared to cry of fear's lighting. that and i just prefer stuff to be brighter in general
