How to beat the "Rico and the Rose" mission in Just Cause 3

A solution to the no lock-on glitch that breaks the "Rico and The Rose" mission in JC3.

What's the mission?

Just Cause 3's Act 3 starts off with a mission titled "Rico and The Rose." In this mission, your assignment is to fly into the sky in a CS7 Thunderhawk, which is the only air-to-air equipped fighter jet in the game, and escort/defend a plane transporting Rosa Manuela, an enemy of Gen. Di Ravello. You are faced with the challenge of shooting down what I believe is either 8 or 12 (I'm going off of memory here) enemy jets who want to shoot down Rosa Manuela.

What DOESN'T work?

To shoot down these enemy jets, the game gives you one tool: the guided missiles on your jet (of which you have infinite.) I have tried to shoot down these planes using as many other methods as I could imagine. I've tried getting on top of my plane and shooting them with a rifle, shooting them with the Thunderbird EMP gun, I've tried tethering them to my plane/each other, tried hijacking each of them as they fly past, I've tried crashing into them in a way that only damages them, and I've even tried using the built in gun on the jet you're in. However, none of these options work, leaving you with a single option: shoot them with the guided missiles.

The issue with this is that more often than not, the missiles won't work. What I mean by that is that you can fire them all you want, but they won't lock on to anything, including the enemy jets.

So what do you do?

What DOES work?

The game actually has a limit on how many missiles can exist in the game at a given time, so if your missiles aren't locking on, all you need to do is spam fire them as soon as the enemy jets show up and do not stop firing until it instructs you to take control of Rosa Manuela's plane. This way, the enemy jets won't be able to launch any missiles at the plane. I've tried it multiple times, and it works.

Yes, it may not be fun, and yes, I wish that they had actually patched this major bug (one of many) but I'm glad that there at least is a solution.
