About achievements

There is a good guide for it written by uka7777:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=324546028

Anyway for those needing You Might Learn Something, before launching a new game, go to Settings then click on Designer Commentary. Grundislav will speak to you and explain to you how it will work (aka big buttons on your screen)

New York City, Winter 1921
Talk to Lyle, the newsboy. After that, enter the Morris & Banks real estates agency on your left.

Once inside, speak with your coworkers to understand that they're suspecting you of being favorited. Suggs will announce you that Morris, your boss, wants you in his office. You don't need to go directly there. But apart drinking water in the restroom, nothing extraordinary will happen. So go to the door behind your desk.

When you speak with Morris, he's asking for you who to fire. Choosing Murphy or Suggs will just change some lines. It will not change the outcome.

Exit the office by the door.

Go to the restroom to hear the end of the conversation and to understand that your coworkers were eavesdropping. But what can you do? Anyway, look at the assignment board and then go to your desk.

Morris has to leave, so, he gives you the key to his office. But just after his departure, something can be heard in the restroom. You have a choice to lock the office or not to do it. But anyway, no matter the action you're taking, it will result in the same thing. Go to the restroom to check on Snuggs or Murphy. After that, if you didn't lock the door, go do it else the game won't let you go further.

When Morris comes back and realize that the tomorrow's leads disappeared, he's accusing you of being the one to steal them. There are indeed under your hat. In other words, Snuggs and Murphy framed you (even if you locked the door, one of them stole the key from your pocket and put it in the other pocket as Alfie will state that he thought that the key were in the other one).

You can choose to stay silent, to accuse Suggs and Murphy or to defend yourself. And you understand, no matter of the choice, Morris will fire you. Suggs will give you five cents to mock you but he didn't realize that he gave you the chance of your life.

When you're back on the street, buy a newspaper from Lyle to learn that someone called George Merrick is searching for new talents in Miami for his project.

Chapter 1: Florida, The Treasure Land - How to meet Merrick?

Miami, Florida, Winter 1921

Go talk to Doc Dammers and ask him about
  • Coral Gables
  • George Merrick
  • Real Estate Market
  • Doc Dammers
End the conversation and exit the scene by the left.

You'll arrive on a map where Flagler Street will be your only destination. Thanks to Doc, you know that Merrick's office isn't too far from your hotel.

Go inside your hotel (first building) and speak with the Hotel Clerk about
  • Reservation
  • Miami
Then go upstairs.

Open the suitcase on the bed and take your father's picture, as the reminder for being a good seller and the typewriter ribbon between two shirts. Then exit the building.

Go into the records building (next to your place) to speak with the employee. Ask him about the records and about Miami. If you need a record of any type, you know where to go!

Go back to the street and go to the right, to West Flagler Street.

Achievement on that street - Relics of The Present! For Ben Jordan's fans!

If you wait for 2-3 minutes, you'll see Arthur Jordan walk down the street. Arthur is Ben Jordan's grandfather from the Ben Jordan series but I recommend you to play the last game, Relics of the Past, to have an insight into Arthur's past. And it's not a mistake from Grundislav to put Arthur in that frame of time. Because Arthur Jordan was a young man in the 1920's.

Enter the Coral Gables Sales Office (last building).

Look at the nameplate to learn that the secretary's name is Ms Rogers. Speak to her to learn that she can't discuss with you. If you look closely to her desk, you see a typewriter while she's writing letters with a pen...

And this is where the typewriter ribbon enters! Give the ribbon to Ms Rogers. She is happy! Now, speak to her again. Ask her about
  • George Merrick
  • Appointement
  • Land Auction
  • Coral Gables
Now, you know that you can shine at a Land Auction.

Exit the building and exit the street.

Go to the Land Auction and speak with Doc Dammers.

Save your game at this point.

Now, you have to choose to convince the group of people on your left (and earn the Land Auction King achievement without hints) or the lone man on your right (to get Lazy Bum achievement).

Doc Dammers explains much better than me what's a Seller Intuition.

Once you get one, you can reload your save and unlock the other one.

GROUP OF PEOPLE

So you want to impress that group? Click on them. Remember the note in your suitcase? Follow the steps that are shown there (can't make the screenshot of the note unfortunately):
  • Break the ice
  • Introduce yourself
  • Tell a story
  • Sell your pitch!

After that, you'll have to find the dreamhouse of each person. To get more information about the places or the people, click on them.

Here's the solution to this puzzle. You'll find the explanation under the screenshot. If you want the achievement, you can't click on HINT. Don't forget to click on DONE!

124 Madrid Street - Grace
  • She wants to be involved in the community and the street has a church and a school... The house is also made for a single person.

707 Escobar Avenue - Roberts
  • He wants quietness because in his old ting apartement, he could hear the neighbors sneezing... The house is spacious, with few houses in the area and made for a single person.

304 Malaga Avenue - Teele
  • Teele hates water, so you bet that the 872 Cordova Street is out of question. He has also a wife and needs to stay inside as he doesn't like the sun. The house is small enough for two and without apparently large outdoors areas.

1510 Palmarito Street - Smith
  • Smith seems to love animals and Lucy is either his wife or his pet. Apart the fact that it's a large property where you can expand the house, I still don't understand why this house for Smith.

872 Cordova Street - Jones
  • Jones loves sports and outdoor areas. Given the swimming pool located outdoors, the Cordova house will suit him.

Pass the LONE MAN section to continue the game.

LONE MAN

You need to convince the man to buy a land. You don't need to be right at every choice for this one. He wants to find a place to live but he's not sure that lot is for him. You need to convince him that it will be a good thing to buy a lot. And if you pay attention to the achievement title Lazy Bum, you'll understand that the guy is... lazy.

I FAILED! THE MAN REFUSES TO CONCLUDE THE DEAL!

To go further in game, go to the group of people on the left or give the man some money.

Here's the solution:
  • Defend
  • Comfortable
  • Ease
  • Any answer (I love honesty, so I choose Truth).

This is the end of the Lone Man section.

Once you've sold houses to the group or the lot to the lone man, Doc tells you that he will put a good word for you. Exit to the map and return to your hotel.
Chapter 1: Florida, The Treasure Land - The three jobs

The hotel clerk tells you that Merrick left a message for you. Speak with him then go to Merrick's office. Speak with Ms Rogers then enter Merrick's office on your right.

Click on the seat or on Merrick and choose any topic. Merrick will give you three quests. Ask him more details about the three assignments.

  • The Holdout: A man refuses to sell his property to Merrick and seems to have every authorization. It's up to you to find the loophole.
  • Publicity: Merrick needs more advertisement for his project. You'll need to find a journalist willing to write in his favor.
  • The Plans: Riley, Merrick's rival, stole design plans. You'll go as someone searching a job and replace the plans by fake ones.

End the conversation and exit the building. Exit the street to go the map. It's up to you to decide which quest to do first. For my first playthrough, I did The Plans first. But for the sake of the walkthrough, I'll follow Merrick's order.

THE HOLDOUT

Choose Anastasia Avenue and and knock on the door. Speak to the man... well attempt to speak with him. As he doesn't want to hear you, you'll need to find a way.

He claims to have all the authorizations... Well, perhaps it's time to check if it's indeed real.

Go back to Flagler Street and enter the Records office. Request a record from the employee. You'll learn that Ernest Mathers build it six months ago alone. Once you have the record, go in your inventory and read the record. Apparently, Mathers doesn't have any construction permit. Is it your loophole?

Go back to Anastasia Avenue and show the record to Mathers. He'll be forced to let you in in order to do an inspection... and what a mess inside! It's time for hidden objects game!

Here's the solution.

Thanks to all these imperfections, Mathers admits doing a fraud and accepts to sell to Merrick.

PUBLICITY

Click on the Miami Herald icon to enter the newspaper building. Speak to the woman (Marjorie Stoneman Douglas) and ask about Herself, Coral Gables, Deal, The Herald and Miami. She'll ask you to find dirt on Jeremiah Miller. The best lead you have is a Men's Club. If you succeed, Marjorie will help you.

Exit the building and go to the Miami's Men Club.

Speak with the clerk about
  • Miami Men's Club
  • Membership
  • Name
  • Jeremiah Miller.

End the conversation.

If you want to enter the Club on your first day in Miami, you have three requirements:
  • Be a man - well, no need to fullfill this one.
  • Have some pedigree
  • Have a respected member to vouch for you

Show your father's picture to Morris to prove your pedigree. Exit the building and go to Merrick's office. Speak with him about Joining Men's Club. Merrick accepts to vouch for you. Exit the office and Ms Rogers will give you the voucher.

Go back to the Miami Men's Club and show the voucher to Morris. To speed up your acceptance, give your money to Morris. Enter the Lounge by the left.

Jeremiah Miller talks to you immediately. After the introduction, try to speak to the rest of the men. One of them seems to be drunk (which will trigger a new option when speaking to Jeremiah).

Speak with Miller about
  • Himself
  • Prohibition
  • Miami
  • Other Members
  • Tell About Drunk Man

Miller tries to speak with Evans and insults him. The result is a K.O. Miller and a flask in the middle of the rug.... It's Marjorie that will be happy!

Take Miller's flask with you and go to the Miami Herald building.

Give the flask to Marjorie. She'll accept to write in favor of Merrick.

THE PLANS

Go to Riley's Real Estate and speak with the secretary. Ask her about
  • Herself
  • Interview

Enter Riley's office. Sit on the chair to discuss with Riley. Any option is good. You'll learn that his daughter is his most precious person in the world.

Riley and yourself exit the office. Speak with the secretary about Getting Into Office. Riley never locks the room... Enter the office.

Look at the painting on the left wall. It's Riley's daughter. Read the date 'May 27 1913'... Well, if Riley has a safe, I guess we know which numbers will be used...

Click on the other painting to reveal the safe. So now, which code? It's up to you to make combinaison of the date on the painting - I've two confirmed codes for now:
  • 19 13 05
  • 13 05 27

Now, you can exit the office... unless you want the achievement Smooth Criminal. In that case, just click on the painting to put it back as it was.

Exit the office and go see Merrick. Tell him about the Plans.

Good job, you're part of Merrick's team!
Chapter 2: When the Groves Begin to Bear - Dammers and The Pilot

Spring 1922

Speak with Ms Rogers then exit by the right.
  • New Job
  • Coral Gables

Speak with Mr Wilson (left desk) then with Doc Dammers (right desk) about:
  • Wilson
    • Himself
    • Coral Gables
  • Doc Dammers
    • Coral Gables
    • Himself
    • Help

After that, pass the double door in the back to meet Merrick. He'll give you an assignement to find performers for the crowd. Merrick will hand you keys for your new car and a telegram. After the conversation, speak with Merrick about:
  • Coral Gables
  • Spectacle

Read the telegram to discover that your brother Beau is in Miami and wants to speak to you at Gables Diner.

Exit the office then the building by the right.

You can choose to go see Dammers or your brother. To make sure to make each quest easier to read, they're separated.

DAMMERS'S STREETCAR

Use your car to travel to Dammers's Demo. Speak with him to learn that his streetcar's model is missing.

Go back to your office and speak with Wilson about Doc's Model Streetcar. Wilson will give you the model but the antenna is missing.

Go the Miami Men's Club and enter the Lounge. Look closely to the radio. It has an antenna, so grab it and combine it with the streetcar model.

Go back to Dammers and give him the model. During the show, when Dammers asks a volunteer, click on him to advance.

Once you're in a close-up view, click on Positive Terminal on the left to put the alligator clip (if you try the Negative Terminal, Doc will remind you that it's the other one you have to focus on).

Something is unfortunately malfunctionning and in the end, the sign on Doc's cart fall down. Grab the sign if you want or let it on the ground.

Take your car and go to Gables Diner to meet your brother.

MEETING BEAU AND FINDING PERFORMERS

Once in it, your brother invites you to speak at a table:
  • Tell about your success
  • Talk about assignement
  • Ask how he's been
  • End Conversation

Your brother told you that he overheard the couple on your right and that they might be performers. Speak to them:
  • Introduce Yourself
  • Flying Circus

There are three little problems however:
  • The Pilot - Alfie will have to find a new one but Mabel heard about one in town.
  • The Plane - The plane will be repaired for the next week and Curly gives you the place where it's repaired.
  • The Payement - Curly gives the price but Alfie has to ask Merrick for the money.

End the conversation. While you're free to do like you want, I'll follow Curly's order. Don't forget that you can do all three in the same time.

Before exiting the diner, speak more with Beau:
  • Diner
  • Mother
  • New York
  • Offer A Car Ride
    • Sales Office - Beau will refuse
    • Men's Club - Beau will refuse

Exit the diner.

THE PILOT

Go to the Miami Men's Club. Enter the Lounge to find someone dressed as a pilot. Maybe it's that Flynn guy who Curly was speaking about?

Speak to him:
  • Pilot?
  • Exploits
  • Hire
  • Condition
  • Men's Club

End the conversation.

It seems that Flynn is exaggerating his exploits in the Great War and has a big ego judging by his conditions. I discovered during my second playthrough that these can change. So pay attention to these.

Go back to your office and speak with Ms Rogers
  • Poster Design
  • Name
    • If Flynn wants people to get excited: Daredevil Flynn's Flying Circus of Doom!
    • If Flynn wants a name with a ring, rolling out of the tongue: Flyboy Flynn's Fantastic Flying Circus
    • If Flynn wants nothing too fancy but let the visuals do the work: Flyboy Flynn's Circus
  • Colors
    • If Flynn wants colors that pop: Orange/Blue
    • If Flynn wants the colors of sunset: Orange/Red
    • If Flynn wants bright and flashy colors: Yellow/Pink
  • Size
    • If Flynn wants quantity and entire walls covered: 8" x 10"
    • If Flynn wants reasonnable size for selling to people: 22" x 36"
    • If Flynn wants something huge and seen from the air: 37" x 60"

Ms Rogers gives you a mock-up.

Go back to the Men's Club to show the poster to Flynn. If everything is alright, he will tell you else go back to Ms Rogers.

You've got a pilot!

Exit the Men's Club.
Chapter 2: When the Groves Begin to Bear - The Plane and The Payement

THE PLANE

Go to the Airfield and speak with the mechanic:
  • Plane
  • Magneto
  • Rudder
  • Himself

After the conversation, click on the toolbox next to the mechanic to borrow a wrench.

If you already have the sign from Doc Dammers's Demo, give it to the mechanic else go back to his cart, take it and bring it back to the airfield. It will cross off of your list the rudder.

For the magneto, it's slightly complicated.

Go first to the Dinner Key Marina to see if something can be useful. Speak with the guard:
  • Himself
  • Marina
  • Hydroplane

If you look closely to the plane, you'll see an engine. The guard won't let you work on it though.

Go back to the dinner and speak with Beau
  • Offer A Car Ride
    • Marina - Beau will come with you

You'll be back at the marina. Click on Beau to speak with him. You'll ask him to distract the guard.

Use the wrench on the engine on the hydroplane to steal the magneto. Click on the car to get back to the dinner.

Go back to the airfield and give the magneto to the mechanic.

Exit the airfield.

THE PAYEMENT

Go back to your office to speak with Merrick:
  • Company Car
  • Hiring Mabel Cody

Merrick will tell you to go to the Bank of Coral Gables. So exit the office and use your car to go to that new location.

Once inside, you'll notice Marjorie being at a teller windows. Go to the only one opened on her side.

But once it's done, a robber arrive. Speak to him and try to convince him to stop the felony. If you succeed in it, you'll be rewarded by an achievement.

I FAILED! THE MONEY WAS STOLEN!

To advance further in the game, after Alfie exits the bank, go back to your office and speak with Merrick
  • Stolen Money

He'll give you an I.O.U for Mabel and Curly.

If you want the achievement Do You Even Rob, Bro?, here's the solution:
  • Expose
  • Philosophize
  • Taunt

After stopping (or not) the robbery, Marjorie comes to talk to you. You'll exit the bank by yourself.

Now, with the money or the I.O.U in your inventory, you can go back to the diner and give it to Mabel and Curly.

The day of the performance, you'll be driving the car that will help Mabel to get on the plane.

Here's the meaning of the icons:

First, you should drive slower.

Lower the top and go faster.

Look for a cross to appear and position yourself to let Mabel take the ladder. It can be hard as you don't have really much time to press the buttons.

Once Mabel is in the air, she's in danger. Slow down and put the top back. Then go faster and go to the right. Mabel will regain her footing and the show will take place.

Enjoy Marjorie's articles!

Chapter 2: When the Groves Begin to Bear - Who wants to speak?

Spring 1925

Exit the Men's Club. Morris will deliver you a message from Merrick. Your boss is expecting you at his mother's house.

For the fun, you can go to the Diner and speak with the Soda Jerk (the employee):
  • Himself

Go to Merrick House, pass the door and meet the Merrick family along with Marjorie. Merrick explains to you that Coral Gables will become a town and that the next day, the first mayor will be appointed. You suggest an important figure to speak in order to make the event unforgettable. Eunice, Merrick's wife, can help you in your search.

Speak with Eunice:
  • Herself
  • Mayor
  • Well-Known People

Speak with Althea Merrick, Merrick's mom:
  • Herself
  • George
  • Well-Known People

Exit the house and go to the Venetian Pool.

Speak with the man in his long chair.
  • Himself
  • Prohibition
  • Speaking Engagement
  • Attempt Persuasion

Now, you have to convince William Jennings Bryan to deliver a speech for the event.

I FAILED! BRYAN DOESN'T WANT TO COME!

Speak with Bryan:
  • Weather

After that, go to the doorway in the left and enter the building. You'll find a sock on the locker. Coincidence or not, it's belonging to our man. Now, you know which locker he's using.

Exit the map and go to the Biltmore Golf Course.

Take a golf tee in the box and go back to the Venetian Pool.

Enter again in the locker room and use the golf tee on Bryan's locker. You find a letter in it and read it.

Speak with Bryan again
  • Lie About Miller

After hearing your lie about Miller doing a speech, Bryan will accept to speak to avoid the community to be 'tainted'.

If you want Great Commoner or simply to convince Bryan, here's the solution:
  • Placate
  • Awareness
  • Beauty
  • Morals

Once Bryan accepts to speak to the event, go back to Merrick's house and speak with your boss.

The next day, Merrick thanks you for your hard work and announced the new mayor... Doc Dammers... And Alfie was so sure that it would be him!

Interlude - Hurricane and Familiar Face
September 1926

You're at the Biltmore Hotel, watching people dance. Marjorie comes to you and asks about your whereabouts. Choose any answer - I chose to tell the truth. Anyway, Marjorie is here to warn about an hurricane incoming.

Go to the Hotel Lobby then to the Front Entrance.

You'll meet Al Capone searching for Tom Walsh! But well, with the hurricane, you don't have time to think about this meeting.

Go to the Front Entrance then exit the building.
Chapter 3: After the Hurricane - The 13th Floor

September 1926

Merrick asks you to find what's happening in the Biltmore Hotel: apparently, a criminal organisation has its HQ there.

Go to the Biltmore Hotel and speak with the clerk... you met on your first day in Miami!
  • Himself
  • Biltmore Hotel
  • Unusual Activity
  • Hurricane

Give money to the clerk and he'll reveal that there is strong activities on the 13th floor.

You can call the lift by pressing the button.

Once on the 13th floor, knock on the door. Choosing any answer will result in a failure to enter.

Press the call button and go back in the lobby.

Sit in the sofa. A man will walk to the shady one. You're listening to the conversation and discover the magic sentence that will let you in!

Go back on the 13th floor, knock on the door and choose the Party Guest option.

Speak with the server. Fatty will only receive you if you're a V.I.P..

Go to the bookcase and look closely at it.

See the 1-2-3? It seems that you need to put the right books above these numbers. But which one? Remember the server... he said you needed to be a V.I.P..

So put Voltaire - Ibsen - Proust to compose the word VIP.

Enter the secret entry.

You're meeting a mob boss! He wants to speak with you! And he wants you to work for him! While you're refusing his offer, he still maintains it.

Exit the office and go back to Merrick in his office. At each scene, Alfie will consider the offer.

Wilson is warning about Ms Roger on a warpath about your telegrams and letters. If you want, you can walk into the next room and look at what your brother is sending. You'll learn that he's the new owner of the Diner.

Speak with Merrick, who is with Doc Dammers. Choose any answer - I chose Confirm.

Alfie will go back to the 13th floor...
Chapter 3: After the Hurricane - The new job

Alfie, fed up with Merrick's attitude, joins Fatty Walsh's mob. His first job is to confirm if there is a speakeasy in a bakery downtown. Exit the office and go to The Road Bakery. Enter it.

Speak to the old lady:
  • Bakery
  • Hurricane
  • Speakeasy

The old lady will go in the back. When she reappears, she has a gun and wants you out after counting to ten. If you don't go out quickly, she'll fire at you. Well, even if you try to run to the door, she'll kill you.

Don't worry, the game will reload at your arrival in the bakery.

When she's threathening you with the gun, click on the sack on your right to distract her and run to the door.

If you want the achievement History Repeating, which is a reference to Backdoor Man, another game of Grundislav, you have to stay outside long enough to see the lady get out and shoot at you.Your game will reload when you're exiting the bakery.

Take your car (and get the Filthy Animal achievement) so that you can inform Fatty Walsh of the situation. He'll give you the assignment to make three locals businesses pay, among them, your brother's diner. You'll be with Butch, the gangster against the wall.

Exit the office.

GABLES ADMINISTRATION OFFICE

Go the Gables Administration Office and pass the door.

You'll meet Herbert Freedy, your target. Speak to Butch in order to make sure Freedy is out of the office for a few seconds. Then search for something on the desk: you'll find a picture. It will come handy later.

Speak with Freedy
  • Himself
  • Fatty Walsh
  • Attempt Threat

You have to convince Freedy to pay Walsh.

I FAILED! FREEDY WON'T PAY!

Speak with Freedy again
  • Call Butch on Him

He will have no choice than pay your new boss.

If you want You Are Going Toupee For That, here's the solution:
  • Moderate
  • Retribution
  • Violent/Unreasonable (according to uka7777)
  • Threaten Life

Once Freedy accepts to pay, leave the office and get to your car.

ALHAMBRA DRUG STORE

Go to the Drug store and speak with the employee.
  • Make Small Talks
  • Get Straight To The Point
  • Aggressively Confront

While the first option will do nothing, the two others will trigger a pursuit. You'll chase after the old man (who is the owner). Speaking to him will do nothing. If the man escapes, go back to the store to trigger the chase again.

While running, you can get a look into your inventory and that picture you found on Freedy's desk (if you don't own it, go to the Administration Office section to speak with Freedy, then ask Butch to get out with the man and search the desk).

The owner is in this photo. Show it to him (well, click on the picture then on the man). It will slow down the man and Butch will be able to stop him with the car.

BEAU'S DINER

Go to speak with the employee. If you didn't ask about himself earlier, you can do here.
  • Himself
  • Fatty Walsh
  • Seeing Beau

Beau will come to speak to you.
  • Diner
  • Hurricane
  • Fatty Walsh

You can gently warn or aggressively warn. Either way, you will end up to choose to lie or to tell the truth.

If you want Brotherly Love and Beau to show up in the epilogue (it's also there that the achievement will pop up), you have to choose to tell the truth.

But Beau will refuse to pay anyway.

Exit the diner.

Once in the hotel, you'll meet Merrick. You can confirm, deny or resign. I chose to confirm.

Chapter 3: After the Hurricane - Havana

Havana, Cuba - Summer 1928

Speak with Butch:
  • Himself
  • Sedatives
  • Morales

Butch will give you a sedative. Now speak with the lady smoking.
  • Herself
  • Havana
  • Manny Morales

If you want to meet Morales, you'll need a password. And if you want the lady to give it, you have to get her money from a man called Umberto, inside the bar.

If you follow the walkthrough, you'll get Professional Poisoner (in which you have to "poison" Umberto on your first try).

Go inside the bar and look at all the bottles (Vodka on the left, Rum in the middle, Whiskey above Rum and Gin on the right).

Speak with Umberto, who is sitting at the table.
  • Himself
  • Manny Morales
  • Money Owned
  • Buy Him A Drink

You can choose between Gin, Whiskey, Vodka and Rum. Of all the alcohols, only Whiskey seems to have your preference AND has a darker colour. Given the fact you'll sedate Umberto as he doesn't want to give you the money, you need the pill not to be seen by the man.

If you try to put the pill in the glass, you'll understand that you can't do it while Umberto is looking at you. Click on your glass to drink.

Speak with Butch:
  • Umberto
  • Distraction

Once Butch agrees with your plan, sit back at the table (by speaking to Umberto) and buy Whiskey again. Click on Butch, go to your inventory to get the pill and put it in Umberto's glass.

Soon, he's asleep, click on him to find 20 Cuban pesos. Exit the bar.

Give the money to the woman. She'll give you the magic sentence. Go back inside the bar.

Knock on the door than click on the open slot. Enter the room.

It seems that Morales had a violent meeting as he's dead. Look at the fallen papers on the ground. Then look at the chair and the window.

A new man will appear and close the door.
  • Who is he?
  • Morales
  • Deal

Butch will kill the man and well... the woman is happy to take over the rum business and accept to deal with Fatty Walsh.
Chapter 3: After The Hurricane - The Moonshiner

March 1929

Go open the door. Butch tells you that Fatty wants to see you. Go to the bathroom to get your clothes and go the door. Answer what you want (I chose to be honest).

Fatty wants a moonshiner out of the business and gives you your own gun (after all these years!). Exit the office and go to the Tamiami Trail.

Speak with the prospector.
  • Himself
  • Everglades
  • Moonshine Runners

Take his machete and read the old paper the prospector gave you. It's torn but you can see: "IT'S UNDER THE RO". Click behind the man to go into the Everglades.

Go further (by going to the left). You'll arrive at a giant tree. I initially thought it was "under the roots", hence my search arount the tree roots. But you'll find nothing.

You have three ways:
  • the Western Exist on your left
  • the Eastern Exit on your right
  • the Southern Exit behind you

Take the Western Exit.

You'll meet an alligator and a rock pile... Yep, the UNDER THE RO is in reality UNDER THE ROCKS. So how to chase the alligator?

Use your gun on the animal then click on the rock pile. Use the machete on the metal box then examine its content. You'll another sheet of paper. Read it.

You need to find the three brothers and to look for the one pointing to the night wake. Go back to the giant tree then take the Eastern Exit.

You'll find three trees with branches poiting into different directions. Look at the ground of the middle one.

Use your machette on the ground to find another metal box. Use again your blade on the metal box and examine the content. Read the old paper.

You'll see three trees with holes. You remember the curved one! When you entered the Everglades, there was a curved stump! Go back to the giant tree and take the Southern Exit.

Click on the only hole available and get a metal box (how surprising!). Open it with the machete and take the content. It's again another piece of paper.

It's an hand with a ring. It seems that after all, the roots of the giant tree are hiding something. You'll need to find "the ring finger". Go back to the giant tree.

Examine the fourth root from the left to find a rope activating a rope ladder. Climb it to find the moonshine site.

Once there, open the door and examine the still. Look at the condenser pipe and take a jar. Take also the blanket on the floor. Exit the cabin.

Look at the roof and use the overhang to reach it. Use the blanket on the chimney.

Get back on the ground, use the jar on the ground (more exactly, on the patch of mud) then take some mud. Go back inside the cabin.

Put the mud on the two condenser pipes.

If you want Darwin Award, stay there until the stills explode. The game will reload just after putting the muds on the condenser.
.

Exit the cabin. You'll be shaken to see that the bank robber (that robbed you or that you convinced to stop the felony) is the moonshiner. You can choose to warn him or to stay quiet. Either way, you can't save him.

Chapter 3: After the Hurricane - End of an Era

The dancing area didn't change in all this years. But what about you?

Exit the room and take the lift. Butch is on guard duty tonight. Speak with him
  • Guard Duty
  • Party

Try to enter but Butch will have to take your gun away.

Once inside, speak with Fatty. He's at the roulette table.
  • Party
  • Delivery
  • Threaten

Threatening without gun isn't really doing something. Besides, Fatty tasked you to investigate why the cake delivery isn't still there. You don't have a choice. Exit the party.

Speak with Butch:
  • Security

Exit the hotel and go to the Road Bakery.

There is no old lady trying to kill you, so go inside.

Speak with Louie
  • Himself
  • Bakery
  • Delivery

You'll learn that the baker, Al, is being upset that his cake isn't perfect. Go to the back door and pass it.

Speak with Al but he has no time to speak with you. Observe his movement. He'll drink at a moment some whiskey.

Go put some moonshine in his glass. Al will be drunk.

Use your gun on the cake to hid it in it. Go back to the hotel.

Go back to the party to see the delivered cake. Click on it to get your gun back.

Use your gun on Fatty.... but it seems that Butch beats you and kills Fatty. Oh and you're the poor boy that will take the blame for the kill.

Use the bookcase to enter Fatty's office.

Click on the desk to find a piece of paper.

Click on the booze to look at it closely. You have
  • Decanter
  • Gin
  • Rum
  • Vodka

The story you found is called The Escape. You have also three names: Gloria - Violet - David.

And while you would be tempted to move the bottles because of how much they're containing, it will not work. Instead, look at the first letter of each name and click on the bottles in this order:
  • G = Gin
  • V = Vodka
  • D = Decanter
  • Rum

In the hall, Marjorie saves your from the cops and tells you that Merrick has been busted out of the City Commission and Dammers is having some heatlh problems.

Chapter 4: Returning Alone - Road to Redemption

Fall 1935

The bartender and the customer seem to speak about you. Once you arrive, you can choose your drink. Any of them is a good choice.

Take the matches on the bar and give them to Bill.

Any answer for the real estate job and Fatty Walsh are good, however, I prefer to acknowledge even if in the end, you're on the streets.

Go the wall and examine it. It seems that a familiar poster is on it but the other ones are hiding it.

Go to the box and examine its content. You'll find a red hankerchief. Use it on the puddle.

Use the hankerchief on the posters. Once in a close view, drag it on the poster until you see the good old blue poster for the Coral Gables. You decide that you should speak with Merrick. After all, if it wasn't for him...

Enter the house to find Eunice and Althea being worried about George who is staying on Matecumbe Key during another hurricane.

You'll find yourself outside the station that brought you from New York City.

Speak with the guard (who used to be the one at the marina):
  • Himself
  • Trains
  • The Keys
  • Attempt Persuasion

Now, it's time to convince the man to let you board the train.

I FAILED! THE GUARD DOESN'T WANT TO LET ME IN THE TRAIN!

Offer your flask to him and he'll let you board the train.

If you want to get Oh My Guard, answer this:
  • Business
  • Conscience
  • Namedrop

Once on the train, use the hankerchief on the barrel on the right side of the train. Then use it on the lamp. And use the matches on it to have some light on.

Open the door to enter a wagon. Take the hammer then open the next door.

Help the conductor by using the hammer on a window. Click on the door after.

Once outside, go to the house and knock on the door.

Speak with Merrick. You can apologize or stand your ground (I apologize).
  • Himself
  • Hurricane
  • Evacuation
  • Attempt Persuasion

Convince Merrick to escape.

I FAILED! I DIDN'T CONVINCE MERRICK!

Well, you don't have a choice, convincing Merrick is the key to the end of the game. So each time you fail, you can reattempt persuasion on Merrick until he's convinced.

While there is no specific achievement for Merrick's persuasion, if you did the previous ones without hints in addition to Merrick, you'll get Super Salesman. Here's how to convince the man to get out of there:
  • Needed
  • Convince
  • Defend
  • Warn

Push Merrick out of the way once at the door before the ceiling collapse (if it does, it will reload just before).
Epilogue - A Grave In The Everglades

If you said the truth to your brother, he'll show up at your funeral and you'll unlock Brotherly Love. Merrick is delivering a speech based on your actions. After that, you'll learn the fates of each character based on real person with a glance on their real faces.

Nice guide :-)

Two comments:

1) For the safe code remember that some dates might need a leading zero.
2) For the bottle puzzle the solution is a bit easier, just read the first letters of *all* lines, G-I-N V-O-D-K-A R-U-M

Great guide! I love the screenshots especially the ones pointing at relevant parts of the screen you can interact with!

I have two comments:

1) To get the achievement for not being shot it is recommended to save before the bakery. The autosave is rewritten when stepping outside but remember you need to get shot there, too, by waiting for the lady. "Filthy animal" is only awarded if you escape in one go.

2) Safe code: Instead of May the month for the daugther generated by the game was August. So I assume in every walkthrough it is different - similar to the pilot's requirements.

This walkthrough really helped me a lot when I was stuck on Chapter 3!

This walkthough helped me when I got stuck, particularly when I had to convice the group of people at the auction and also when dealing with the old lady at the bakery since there's such short amount of time to try something.
I do have to give feedback on Chapter 3. The sequence that you have to lift the liquor bottles in order to escape the penthouse isn't solely depending on the names given from the letter in Fatty's desk...the answer is actually SPELLED OUT from the first letter of each line of text. LOL

Thanks for the guide! I only used it for the circus performance, but it was insightful to know the solutions to some other puzzles that I figured out through brute force (the VIP & alcohol secret passages). I think the painting/safe combination might be partly randomized, mine was May 16 (13 05 16)
