Description
Hello there! Welcome to NPC Weapon Picking addon

This addon adds ability for NPCs to pick up weapons and medkits

Features:
Settings
Animations(if NPC has "combat_stand_to_crouch" or "pickup" animations)
Medkits and medvials picking
Metrocops won't pick shotguns and ar2(configurable)
Combines won't pick pistols and melee

Supports:
Supported NPCs:
npc_combine_s, npc_metropolice, npc_alyx, npc_barney, npc_monk and NPCs that you can add with settings
Supported Weapons:
weapon_pistol, weapon_357, weapon_stunstick, weapon_crowbar, weapon_smg1, weapon_ar2, weapon_alyxgun, weapon_annabelle, weapon_shotgun and other weapons that you can add with settings

Settings:
Tool Panel >> Options >> Limakenori >> NPC Weapon Picking

Recommended with:
Mapbase Animations - normal pick up animation and unarmed animations for Combines

In Half-life 2 any NPC except citizens can't pick weapon. So, it adds improved picking Half-life 2 feature for any NPC.

In most cases it doesn't make that much difference when rebel is armed with SMG or AR2 because unlike combine soldier or civil protection with SMG (latter one has even much worse accuracy because they fire SMG from hip). Rebels has very high accuracy with SMGs and considering both SMG and AR2 do 3 damage per shot by NPCs, it doesn't make huge difference in most aspects. Shotguns probarily make citizens actually perform worse because their advantage of accuracy is taken away. Combined with the fact animation shotgun bugs makes close range shotgun citizen encounter with SMG/AR2 soldiers (in rare case even civil protection with pistol) very risky approach and doesn't help the fact Citizens don't like to gun and run at same time.

Nonetheless, CItizens with Shotguns aren't good as SMG due to their animations issues. Citizens often have to re-aim when they're injured while playing aiming animation. And unlike Combine Soldiers with shotgun. Citizens rarely shoot while running unless they encounter a zombies (because citizens actually fear zombies so they hide while shooting), so they fire more often or not in Pump Action mode rather than the Semi-Auto mode unless a grenade is thrown near them or something enforce them to run.

It used to be the case where Citizens with SMGs will prefer either Shotgun or AR2 and permaently posess them in original Half-Life 2. But with Episode One release. Shotgun is considered lower priority than the SMG while AR2 is highest priority. Perhaps every NPCs follow this same logic with this mod enabled?
