Let's get started
First things first, You will need to purchase a copy of Lossless Scaling from Steam:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/993090/Lossless_Scaling/

From there on the software is practically plug and play.

Note: Your hardware and monitor refresh rate play a significant role in the performance of the game. The better your hardware and the higher your monitor’s refresh rate, the smoother your gaming experience will be. However, even with older hardware you might still be able to squeeze out a bit more performance from an older rig.

It’s important to note that while Lossless Scaling can significantly improve performance, it’s not a magic solution that will correct frame issues on every PC. The effectiveness of this software can vary depending on your specific hardware configuration and the games you’re playing. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to experiment with different settings to find what works best for your system.

Lossless Scaling Settings

Here are the recommended settings for Lossless Scaling:

    Setting Value
  • Scaling Mode Auto
  • Fullscreen Yes
  • Scaling Type LS1 (Play around with this, Sharp Bilinear is also very good!)
  • Sharpness 0 (Due to my personal in game settings)
  • Frame Generation LSFG 2.0
  • Performance Off
  • Vertical Sync (Rendering) On
  • Max Refresh Rate (Rendering) Yes
  • Draw FPS (Rendering) On
  • Capture API DXGI

Steps to Optimize Arma 3 with Lossless Scaling:
  • Switch to Windowed Mode or Fullscreen Windowed: For the best experience with this Frame Generation software, configure Arma 3 to run in a windowed mode.

  • Regulate Your Frame Rate: Limit your in-game FPS to half of your monitor’s maximum refresh rate. - Essentially just "cap" your frame rate.

  • Turn Off Overlays: Some overlays might conflict with Lossless Scaling, so it’s recommended to turn them off.

  • Manage Rendering Options: If you run into any problems, try turning off some options under the “Rendering” tab in Lossless Scaling, but keep “Draw FPS” on to monitor performance.

  • If you have a NVIDIA GPU: Integrate LosslessScaling.exe with NVIDIA Control Panel: This can help with performance. Once you’ve added it, set the “Vulkan/OpenGL present method” to “Prefer layer on DXGI Swapchain”.

  • Modify Arma 3 Settings: If you’re struggling to maintain your desired base frame rate due to the performance overhead of LSFG, consider using the up scaling feature in Lossless Scaling or reducing some in-game settings.

Keep in mind you can also skip the up-scaling and just utilize Lossless scaling's Frame Generation Algorithm if you're just looking for more FPS, however this might be more hardware intensive... This can be done via the option "Scaling Type" being set to "OFF"

That's it!

Remember, every system is unique, and these settings are a starting point. Feel free to experiment and tweak these settings to find what works best for you.

Excellent guide and app, thanks for sharing. I'm now running double my native FPS in Arma 3! :)

Also do I need to cap my FPS, or will it work fine without?

Where do I regulate my framerate?

Thank you for your feedback. You’re absolutely right, the Lossless Scaling software is continuously being updated and improved. The latest version at the time of writing this guide was LSFG 2.0, which indeed is now dated...

However, please note that while each new version of LSFG will likely bring improvements and potentially better performance, the basic approach remains the same. Therefore, the principles and recommendations outlined in this guide should still be applicable, even as new versions are released.

Please understand that with the pace of my own software development, it’s not always possible to keep guides like this updated in real-time. However, I strive to provide the most accurate and helpful information possible at the time of writing. I appreciate your understanding and patience.

Thanks for this - but this should be updated - theres LSFG 2.1 and u can select between 2x and 3x frames. My goal is trying to get STABLE 60fps in the end on 5600x | 6700xt @ 1680x1050 on a heavily modded ArmA (blastcore, JSRS and many other small mods that can potentialy effect fps) with at least 3km viewdistance and i want no obvious tearing.

How do you do this? - Integrate NVIDIA GPU: Integrate LosslessScaling.exe with NVIDIA Control Panel

Open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > Click the ADD button if Lossless isn't in the drop down Menu.

I saw your post on Drongo's discord and instantly bought it. This is legitimately game changing for me. The frame generation part is like magic. Thank you so much for bringing light to this incredible program!

You just add the program to your Nvidia control panel and then change it’s Vulkan and OpenGL settings to: “Prefer layer on DXGI Swapchain“
