In one of the updates, Valve added a setting for the transparency of teammates' nicknames when aiming the crosshairs at the head. What it is, why and how, I’ll tell you in this guide.

Why do we need the nickname transparency feature?
Sometimes, during a game, an unexpected teammate may stand between you and your opponent. His beautiful head, and especially the giant nickname above him, can interfere not only with aiming, but also with actually killing the enemy.

How to enable and how to configure?
This function was initially enabled after the update, but you can configure it using the console command cl_teamid_overhead_fade_near_crosshair (0.75-1), where (0.75-1) are values ​​to choose from. The difference in their use is shown below.

The higher the number, the more invisible and transparent the teammate’s nickname becomes when you aim the crosshairs at his head.
