Introduction:
Lemoyne is one of the five American states and is located in the south-east part of the map. It's divided in three regions: Scarlett Meadows, Bayou Nwa and Bluewater Marsh. According to the official Rockstar lore, this region is loosely based off the real world state of Louisiana.
Notable Locations:
Map of Lemoyne:

Lagras (Bayou Nwa):

Lagras is a small and tightly-knit settlement nestled within the swamps of Lemoyne, situated just north of Saint Denis, the largest settlement in the Red Dead series. Rooted in its Creole origins, Lagras bears the cultural influence of its African-American inhabitants who format the predominant population of this town. The inhabitants of Lagras are fairly humble and hospitable to the player.

The town of Lagras embodies a relaxed atmosphere, with its primary industry centered around fishing. Few other industries are present, as the bayou terrain makes other activities like farming near impossible.

Lagras experiences predominantly high temperatures, rarely dropping below 20 degrees Celsius (approximately 70 degrees Fahrenheit). Geographically speaking, Lagras finds itself located on a similar latitude as Riggs Station in West Elizabeth, despite having a wildly different climate.

Rhodes (Scarlett Meadows):

Prim and proper on the surface, tensions and corruption run deep in the Southern town of Rhodes, which for years has been caught in the crossfire between the Braithwaites and the Grays, two warring plantation families.

Saint Denis (Bayou Nwa):

Saint Denis is a heavily industrialized city at the turn of the 20th century, with large factories with towering chimneys. As a modern city, it incorporates paved streets, has a uniformed constabulary, and operates a network of public transportation via tram lines. Some areas of the city are dark and covered in a blanket of smog, with the sky being blocked out by smoke from the factories, while other areas are green, lively, and well-lit.

After Lemoyne joined the Confederacy at the onset of the Civil War, Saint Denis became a target for Union troops; during the post-war Reconstruction period, the New York financier JD McKnight and the industrialist Leviticus Cornwall helped rebuild the city.

Notable People:
Angelo Bronte:

Born around 1844, Bronte is a wealthy Italian businessman and crime lord, mainly operating in the city of Saint Denis. He has been a long time supporter of law enforcement and frequently attends social events with Saint Denis politicians. He also seems to be a major donor of the mayor Henri Lemieux and have many connections to highly ranked state officials, as seen at the mayor's party. His criminal business consists of bribery and defrauding officials to raise their financing; Bronte has financial connections to many businesses in the city, as a document in his residence shows.

Bronte has been accused of being involved in a crime syndicate that deals in smuggling and racketeering. He may be responsible for the death of a Saint Denis policeman Henry Jenkins, who was investigating Bronte's alleged criminal activities.

Black Belle:

Following her first robbery in Rhodes, Black Belle became an infamous member of the Colter Tobin Gang, of which she is the sole surviving member. It is known that she was married six times to six gentlemen, although she has never divorced any of them. Her deeds eventually resulted in her becoming a renowned gunslinger. She is said to have amassed a bounty higher than that of famous gunslinger Landon Ricketts. And on one occasion, four bounty hunters cornered her in a small cabin and opened fire on her, but she quickly hid in the cellar, waiting for them to come in, and upon entering, the men were shot from beneath the floorboards.

Guido Martelli:

Guido Martelli is the right-hand man and underboss of Angelo Bronte, the head of the Italian mob. He is loyal to his employer, and, in many ways, as ruthless and feared as him. Due to his position within the organization, Martelli is responsible with handling certain affairs on Bronte's behalf, such as bribing the Saint Denis Police Department to ignore the Italian mob's criminal activities.

Catherine Braithwaite:

She is the matriarch and eldest member of the wealthy Braithwaite family, the rivals of the Gray family. At some point before 1899, Catherine Braithwaite began selling moonshine to the Lemoyne Raiders through an illegitimate side business. She also became acquainted with Angelo Bronte.

Leigh Gray:

A member of the wealthy Gray family, he is the brother of Tavish Gray, son of Murdo Gray, and uncle to Beau Gray. Leigh became the Sheriff of the family's main front, the town of Rhodes, at some point prior to 1898, although he is highly incompetent at his job.
Notable Secrets:

Gangs & Factions:
Braithwaite Family:

Originating from England, the Braithwaites established themselves in America around 1779. By the 19th century, they had a bustling slave plantation at their manor and became one of the richest and most powerful families in the area. At the peak of their power, the Braithwaites could have committed serious crimes, including rape and murder, without fear of consequences.

In 1806, Lucile Braithwaite gave the location of a significant sum of gold to Douglas Gray, a member of the Gray family. With Lucile's permission, he stole this gold from the Braithwaites, along with additional gold from his own family, in order to fund abolitionist groups. Believing that the other stole their treasure, the two families became locked in a vicious blood feud.

The abolition of slavery in 1865, following the defeat of the South in the Civil War, significantly damaged the Braithwaites. They lost a large amount of their wealth, as did the Grays. At some point prior to 1898, the Braithwaites turned to illegally producing and selling moonshine, and became the dominant producer in Lemoyne, with the help of Maggie Fike, who used to control the moonshine business in the region but disappearing in 1892 after being caught and nearly killed by revenue agents. The Braithwaites also recruited Maggie's former cook, Danny-Lee Caton, who was looking for protection, to oversee their production.

Gray Family:

The Grays immigrated to North America in 1755, when Jacobite supporters in Scotland began hunting down and killing Scottish loyalists who had informed against them during their 1745 uprising. The founder of the family, Ross Gray, was one such informer and had been paid for his services in cash, cattle, and land confiscated from his neighbor by the Duke of Cumberland.

The Grays arrived in Scarlett Meadows, then still part of the French possessions in the Americas, and quickly established themselves in the area. Taking advantage of slavery, they brought in high production of tobacco and cotton. They also used their fresh start to cover up the true reasons for their flight from Scotland and portray themselves as exiled Jacobites.

In 1806, Lucile Braithwaite gave the location of a significant sum of gold to Douglas Gray. With Lucile's permission, he stole this gold from the Braithwaites, and stole some more gold from his family, in order to finance local abolitionist groups. The two sides, believing that the other stole their treasure, started feuding.

The abolition of slavery caused financial trouble to the Grays as well as the Braithwaites. By 1899, the Gray family still had a significant presence in western Lemoyne, rivaled only by the Braithwaite family. The Grays were especially prevalent in the town of Rhodes, where they owned the Rhodes Parlour House and controlled the local Sheriff's Office.

Lemoyne Raiders:

The Lemoyne Raiders are made up of both Confederate veterans and recruited, disenfranchised young men with reactionary views. As a result, they are deeply racist, anti-government, and have a bitter desire for revenge against the North. Structured like a militia, the group initially formed up as a neo-Confederate organization that was appreciated by locals before they became nothing more than a nuisance. Terrorizing the town of Rhodes and on a much smaller scale Saint Denis being more feared than respected. They are involved in numerous rackets, from trading moonshine with the Braithwaite family, among various other illicit goods, to selling arms to buyers in South American countries.

Outlaws by nature, the group is also violent, being known for murders and robberies of northerners, government officials, and law-abiding citizens alike throughout Lemoyne. They are extremely territorial and vengeful, prone to launching retributions against those who antagonize them. Their superior arms and training make them more dangerous than most gangs, as they will organize effective ambushes against the player instead of chaotically attacking them on sight.
