A few more notes about ways you'll need quartz that may not be obvious as you're playing:

• You can eventually unlock a 'light box' that can be crafted with 1 solar quartz and 2 silicon, which is one of the best lighting elements in the game
  
• 1 of the 3 endings to the game requires 5 solar quartz
  
• Pulsar quartz is the most efficient way to generate terra tokens, albeit a tad expensive to set up the infrastructure.
  
• A few more gear pieces need quartz as well, T3 torch, T3 deconstruction, T3 blueprint pinning
  
• If you haven't noticed, you can put fusion energy cells crafted with pulsar quartz into reactors in some of the wrecks on the map to unlock extra doors for high tier loot

And lastly, when doing portal runs for more quartz, you can just keep scanning until you find something that is high rarity and low difficulty, or something that fits the specific quartz you have to spend.
