Installed Mods Not Working For Game Version 1.9.6
作者: LambHugger
I Initially Had Trouble Running Mods And I Didn't Know What The Problem Was. I Searched For Answers Online And Found None That Were Focused On My Specific Problem.

I Installed The Mods Using The Directions Set Forth By Their Authors To The Letter, Yet Each Time I Started Up My Save, I Noticed That Not A Single Mod Had Taken Effect.

If This Sounds Like The Problem You Are Facing, Then I May Have Resolved It.

The Problem
I Think This Guide May End Up Being Rather Short As I Don't Think There Is Much To Say On The Matter. Nevertheless, I’ll Begin By Showing A Snippet Of The Contents Within My Current Kingdom Come: Deliverance Steam Directory.

In Case You Don’t Know How To Get There I’ll Use Mine As An Example.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\KingdomComeDeliverance

Notice That Mine Makes Use Of The C Drive, Which Is My Main SSD. However, So Long As You Can Locate Your Steam Folder In Your Drive's Directory, Then The Rest Of The Directory Should Be The Same For You.

I Will Note Right Now That The Folder Titled “mods” (Without The Quotation Marks) Did Not Originally Exist When I First Installed The Game. I Had To Make This Folder Myself By Simply Creating A New Folder And Naming It “mods” (Without The Quotation Marks).

This Folder May Or May Not Already Exist For You Based On My Findings. And I’ll Touch More On That Name Choice Later On.

Now, I’ll Be Using A Mod As An Example That Has Certain Requirements. Minimal Requirements Mind You, But Still Necessary.

I Used The Perkaholic Mod From nexusmods.com Since I Would Easily Be Able To Tell If The Game Was Running The Mod Or Not. Here Is The Link To Said Mod So That I May Give Credit To Where Credit Is Due.

https://www.nexusmods.com/kingdomcomedeliverance/mods/770?tab=files

All The Installation Instructions Call For Is That You Extract The Mod Files Into Your Mods Folder In Your Game Directory. So, If You Don't Have That Mods Folder Then You Will Need To Create One Both To Store Said Mod And To Help Kc:D Find The Mod In The Directory. Here Is My Example Directory:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\KingdomComeDeliverance\mods

Now The Mod Is Installed Just Like That, Super Simple Instructions To Follow. In Addition To This, You Will Need To Create A New Text File From The Same Drop-down Menu As The New Mods Folder You Made.

This Text File Will Go Into The Mods Folder. And The Name Of This File Will Be “mod_order” (Without The Quotation Marks) Like So:

When I Was Searching Online For Answers I Stumbled Upon This Information About The mod_order Text File. It Is Necessary To Have This As I Will Point Out Later On. I Will Note That From My Findings It Seems You Don’t Need To Order Your Mods In Any Such Way, Though I Would Recommend Ordering Them Alphabetically At The Very Least.

Now That You Have The Text File, You’ll Want To Make KC:D Find Said Mod As Easily As Possible In Your Directory. To Do This, Remove Any Special Characters From Your Mod Folder’s Name (Like Underscores _ For Instance) And Remove Spaces As Well. This Will Help Find The Folder As Well As The Mod Manifest Document Within Said Folder.

So The Original Name Of The Mod When You Download And Extract It Will Be This:

Perkaholic 1.07-770-1-07-1561341650

Then For This Mod, I Simply Backspaced Down To This:

Perkaholic

Now, Your Directory Should Look Like This:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\KingdomComeDeliverance\mods\Perkaholic

After That, Go Back To The Text File, And Open It With A Text Editor Application, Notepad Will Work As That’s What I Used For This And It Should Come Standard With Your Machine, If You Run Windows That Is.

Now Add The Name Of The Folder Into The Text File And Save It. It Will Look Like This:

Save The Text Document And That Part Is Set To Go. Now I Will Wrap Up This Guide By Explaining In Detail What The Solution To My Problem Was.
The Solution
Now The Solution To My Problem Wasn't The Mods Themselves, But Rather That KC:D Couldn't Find Them In My Directory. I Found This Out By Opening The "kcd" Text Document (Without The Quotation Marks) In The Directory As Shown:

You Don't Have To Scroll Very Far To Find The Little Mods Section Of This Text Document. It's At Line 85 And It Looks Like This:

I Do Have Two Other Mods Loaded, Do Take Note That Both Entries Say There Are No Present Game Version Restrictions, Which Is Something I Originally Thought Was The Problem With The Mods And My Game Version Until I Found The Fix For Myself.

I'll Now Show You What That Looks Like In The Mod_order Text Document With 2 Or More Mods:

Note That They Are In Alphabetical Order, All Stacked On Top Of Each Other, No Spaces Or Paragraph Spaces In Between Them.

Now I First Noticed That The Document Says Mods dir is 'mods', Which Means "Mods Directory Is 'mods' " As In Lowercase 'mods'. That Is Why I Have Named My Mods Folder All Lowercase But Without The Apostrophe Symbol On Either Side.

It May Be That You Could Change It To Uppercase, Or Change The Whole Name For That Matter. But I Did Not Bother To Test This As I Considered Taking The Extra Measure To Alter The Least Amount As Possible And Still Make My Mods Work.

You May Also Notice That It Very Well Tells You What Directory It Needs To Read From To Run Your Mods. In My Case, It Gives The mods\ Directory And Then It Searches For The mod_order Text Document We Made Earlier.

Bear In Mind That You Should Not Name The File mod_order.txt As When KC:D Goes To Find It, It Will Instead Find mod_order.txt.txt, Which Is Not Correct. The File Type txt. Is Added To The File Name Automatically.

If Something Is Off, The kcd File Will Read Something Like "Could Not Locate mod_order.txt" Or Something Similar.

You Can Check While The Main Game Is Running Whether Or Not Your Mods Are Running Simply By Reopening The kcd File And Reading What It Has To Say While The Game Is Running. I Went All The Way Past The Main Menu And Loading Screen Into The Actual Gameplay Before I Checked The File Again, Just To Be Sure.

If It Reads The Way Mine Does Currently, And You Notice Your Mod Works In Your Game, Then That's All There Is To It. I Don't Think There Is More For Me To Say. If Someone Stumbles Across This Guide And Has A Comment Saying I Missed Something, I Would Surely Appreciate That.

I Said From The Start That I Thought This Would Be A Short Guide, And I Was Wrong About That. I Wanted To Give As Much Detail As Possible So That Someone Even On My Level Of Knowledge Or Less Knowledgeable Can Remedy This Issue.

I Would Say I'm A Novice At This Sorta Thing By Now, But I Still Search Online For Answers When Necessary And It Was Some Dumb Luck That I Looked Far Enough In The Kcd File. For If I Hadn't I May Never Have Found My Solution.

And That Is Why I Immediately Made This Guide After I Found My Solution. Because I Did Not Find The Solution From Somewhere Else Online Like Usual, But Instead Had To Figure Out My Specific Problem Almost By Myself.

And Now, Hopefully, This Guide Will Serve Its Purpose Of Helping Others Find The Answer To Their Specific Problem, One That Is Seemingly Unspoken Of By The Vast Online Forums Database.

Take Care Dear Reader

TL;DR
The Problem Wasn't The Mods Themselves Or The Mod's Compatibility With My Game Version. But Rather I Had To Manually Configure My Game Files And Their Directories For The kcd File To Be Able To Read My Mods In My Mods Folder.

I Apologize If You Could Not Read Through This Long Guide. I Never Set Out To Make This Huge Guide But Found It Necessary The More Information I Put Into It

This worked for me. Thank you!
Note: I also changed the folder properties from "read-only," but I don't know if that matterd.

I followed all these steps:
- I have a mods folder with all my mods
- mod order file is present with all the right folder names with no spaces
- log file is saying that the mods are getting loaded and its reading the lua script of the mod

...and still the mods are not working.
Im testing this with the sorted inventory mod since this is easy to check right after loading in and I can't get it working. InstantHerbPicking isn't working either. None of my mods are doing anything.
At this point I just don't know what else to check.

The real issue here is that, by default, windows "hides" common file extensions, like ".txt". You can change this by unchecking the "Hide common file extensions" option in the folder settings of File Explorer. Now when you create, for example, "mod_order.txt", it won't have the second (hidden) ".txt" added to it.
