NOTE:
I usually set the width and height to 1024x1024 in VTFEdit. I've been using XNConvert app (thanks to syahmi2002.sa for the guide) to further reduce the size, typically setting the width and height to either 50% or 25%, though I mostly stick with 25%, but rarely I bump it up to 50% to make the textures less blurry (usually for reskin or survivor model). In-game, I use a FoV of 75, but I occasionally increase it if 75 still makes the gun look very small, similar to the default 50 FoV. Models and Shader settings set to High ONLY for preview purposes, otherwise I set it to Low.

Please read the quote by Táiga Rivers if the game still crashing even after using compressed mods.

High-res textures are usually fine. What really helps to avoid crashes is dividing the high-poly model (mostly the w_models, but the v_models are better to be optimised, too) into several SMDs instead of just one. I did that to all the models I am using, but kept the original 2K textures, and I am playing custom campaigns without issues.
A good example: an HQ G3 that previously was making my game crash when someone with that weapon gets killed by the Witch or pounced by the Hunter. After the model got divided into several parts, no more crashes.
The only problem with that is not all weapon mods are that easy to optimise: broken animations/meshes after re-compiling are not a rare occasion.
Low-end PC owners probably still can crash while playing with weapon mods with high-res textures. A friend of mine was playing on a potato PC, and they had to remove all the high-res mods because the game was quite unstable. Sometimes.
But in general, reducing the texture resolution does not necessarily help against crashes if the model has a hell ton of vertices and is not divided into several parts.

ok thanks for clarification
i was just confused because i thought that u modify the smds of some of the mods

I've made a comment before regarding that, but I forgot where, or did I even made it. But the reason there's no "chance of crashing" and "all original files" is not present in my newer mods (I'm talking about the 1st image) because I've always put the quote on my EVERY compressed mod. It tells people that by me compressing the mod, be it weapon or model like infected, vehicles, etc, does not preventing the chance of crashing by 100%.

Crash is inevitable, and the only way to prevent crash is to, well, read the quote. So, there's no point to add those two point to my, I'd call it, image stats, when the quote is exist. As for original files, I only touch vtfs anyway, and only other thing that is unnecessary, like decompile folder, or scripts folder, usually I'd delete it.

hey i just wanted to ask a question
do u compress the models for all ur mods or just some of them
because on some mods u say that the chance of crashing is reduced but not on others

You mean this but for M16? Unfortunately I have no idea how to hex a weapon, and thought there's the M16 variant for this weapon, but nope, just searched it and there's none, so I'm not the right person to hex a weapon. Sorry
