CS2 movement guide
Af katari
Welcome to an in-depth guide on movement in CS2, where we will dive deep into understanding the diverse range of techniques that can make you a master in the field. Understanding movement mechanics is as important as having good aim in CS2 and could make a difference between winning or losing a fight.

Basics of Movement in CS2
Movement in CS2 is an integral part of the game. A player’s movement skills can define them as a pro or a noob, dramatically determining how skillful a player can be. There are several possible outcomes to a scenario if a player has truly mastered movement and several clutches are pulled off by doing so. The movement here being spoken about is not just “your character moving about” but as a general broader term. The following tips are fundamental and are the foundation of a good CS2 player.

Let’s start with the basics. In CS2, you can walk, run, jump, and crouch. Each action has its uses and should be incorporated into your gameplay strategically.

Walking and Running
Walking in CS2 is divided into 3 main types: Running, walking with Shift, crouching and jumping. Each of these types has its own characteristics, for example: running makes a lot of noise, by which you can be heard, and also greatly increases the spread of your weapons. Walking allows you to increase your accuracy, but in return slows you down considerably. Your speed can also be slowed down by the weapons you have in your hands. If you are holding an AWP rifle, you will walk very slowly. With a knife, the story is the opposite, because taking it will significantly increase your movement speed.
STRAFING
Strafing is an amazing way to avoid being an easy target to your opponent. It involves the alternate quick movements from side to side generally using the players’ movement keys i.e. “A” and “D” on the keyboard. When does fast this makes the character untraceable and nearly impossible to hit even from a close distance. This will not affect your weapon’s accuracy if performed correctly.
How to increase your running speed?
As mentioned above, weapons slow down your running speed. Machine guns and sniper rifles affect this the most. Your character moves fastest with pistols and knives, which you should switch to more often, because they will help you get into position sooner, which is especially important when playing with sniper rifles.
SERPENTINE
There is a tendency among new players of the game to simply try to run back to cover if they start to be lasered by an opponent. In CS2 this would not work at all as when a player starts to get shot, his movement is reduced. This means his walking and running speed is greatly reduced. Due to the movement reduction, enemies can now easily finish off the wounded player easily if he just tries to run back normally. Instead what you can do is (only if you think all hope is lost) switch back to your knife (this reduces the slowness added by the weight of the weapon) and constantly jump in diagonally opposite directions towards the same side. This reduces your chances of being hit and also increases your movement speed to get away fast. It also gives you a chance to regroup with your teammates, giving you a better chance of life.

Although this may seem like a subset of jumping, it takes a lot of practice to perfect it.
Peeking Techniques
Peeking techniques are an essential part of your movement arsenal. There are three types of peeks you should master :

Basic Peeking

Basic peeking is the action of checking corners or angles without exposing too much of your body to potential threats. To do this, move left or right to peek, and then instantly stop your movement by pressing the opposite key to maintain accuracy.

Crouch Peeking

Crouch peeking involves crouching as you peek around a corner, moving your hitbox and making headshots more difficult for your enemies. This technique is most effective when peeking from left to right.

Shoulder Peeking

Shoulder peeking is used to bait out an enemy’s shot, especially effective against AWPers. By showing only your arm or shoulder, you can force an enemy to prematurely fire, providing you with a window to counter-attack.

How You Should Peek Corners in CS2
its important to build up your velocity when peeking close/hugging a wall
Bunny Hopping
Bunny hopping, or ‘bhop,’ involves a series of jumps that, when performed correctly, can increase your speed and make you a harder target to hit. This is done by jumping continuously while strafing left and right in the air to maintain momentum.
Strafe Jumping
Strafe jumping is a movement technique where you jump while simultaneously strafing (moving sideways). This is performed by jumping and letting go of the forward key, then synchronizing your mouse movements with your strafe key presses.
counter strafing
This is a mechanic in CS2 that allows you to almost instantly stop your character's movement before firing a weapon. To perform it correctly, you need to press the key opposite to the direction in which the character is moving in
