Custom Ascii Faces [HOW TO]

Style on your friends with more faces than the game lets you input normally, brought to you by the Unicode Consortium.

HOW TO DO THE FACES (WINDOWS ONLY)

Make sure you are not in a lobby before doing these steps. Also, you should edit and save a face in-game at least once before trying this.

Go to the windows search bar and type in Registry Editor, open it up.

Navigate through HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Landfall Games\Content Warning

Right click on the field starting with "FaceText_h" and click Modify...


Then pick a preferred face from the below section, make note of its hexadecimal string.
You will want to type in those values in the LEFT section, not the right

Click OK in the binary editor. Then join the lobby and your face should be updated!

MAKE YOUR OWN FACES (KINDA TECHNICAL)

So you wanna make your own faces, huh?

The concept is fairly simple. For each character you want to include in your face, you need to find the UTF-8 hexadecimal representation of that character. For instance, 'Щ' is D0A9 and '☹' is E298B9 so you would enter D0 A9 E2 98 B9 into your registry. Additionally, the registry entry should always end in 00, so your final created face of Щ☹ would be D0 A9 E2 98 B9 00.

CAVEATS FOR FACEMAKING

MOST CHARACTERS AREN'T SUPPORTED BY THE GAME FONT. Oftentimes exotic unicode characters will show up as ☐ or a blank. Sadly this makes face creation pretty trial and error, as every time you want to test a new face you have to close the lobby, registry edit, and reopen.

There's still a strict limit of 3 characters in your face, no idea if getting around that is possible yet.

I don't see why you would want to, you can directly paste faces in-game now.

does editing Facetext_h not work anymore? no matter what i type in it ends up showing as a blank face in game

Edit: Discrepancies may be due to fallback behavior being different between font viewer and game?

I dug through the game files, and may have found the font; Liberation Sans Regular version 2.00.1, with an expanded outline. I did notice a couple availability discrepancies, like U+25C9 works but not U+072B, so might actually be a different but closely related font? In any case the style matches, and I found it in sharedassets0.assets.
