How to enable always-on crosshair.
De Peppr
The in-game crosshair is hidden when reloading, pulling up the map, hip-firing the AMR/HMG, etc.
I made this guide showing you how to use a ReShade alternative to fix this.

Introduction
It frustrated me the in-game crosshair would be hidden when I needed it. This meant I would lose my target and have to guess where my aim is pointing.

It was especially annoying with the AMR and HMG which straight up don't give you crosshairs unless you're scoped in, making them un-usable for close range combat.

Here's how to install a lightweight, customizable crosshair overlay for ReShade that solves these issues.

And a quick disclaimer, ReShade is not bannable, there's plenty of graphical presets on NexusMods already to alter the look of your game using ReShade.
Steps
  • Download ReShade from their website and then activate the setup.
    https://reshade.me/#download

  • Select Helldivers 2.exe from the game list. If it isn't listed you'll have to browse and find it manually.

  • Select DirectX 11/ 12 render option. Click SKIP when selecting what shaders to download, we don't need any for our purpose.

  • Download xhair from github; https://github.com/notpeelz/reshade-xhair
(Click releases on the right and then the shaders.zip file.)

  • Extract the downloaded .zip and put the files in the BIN folder in the games directory. To find game directory, right click the game on Steam, go to properties then browse local files.

Now reshade and xhair is installed.

To use it press HOME key in-game (default key, can be changed in settings) activate the xhair shader and a crosshair should appear on screen.

You can mess with the shader settings at the bottom of the reshade panel to change size, shape and opacity. By default the crosshair will vanish when you aim but you can disable that so it is always shown.

An FPS counter is also shown by default but you can disable it as well as tweak other things like font size, theme and a bunch of other stuff in the reshade settings tab.

Once happy with how it looks, you can tick the 'performance mode' box which locks your settings.

To uninstall, run the reshade setup again, select Helldivers2.exe and click remove reshade.

Here is a short video demonstration. I normally prefer a simple white dot but here I used the default large green crosshair for sake of video visibility.

yeah kinda funny isn't it :mbpraise:

all this overlay does is mark the middle of your screen, but it makes you realise half the sights in the game aren't in the right spot lol
