DLSS Black Flickering Fix / Fixing The RDR2 Screen Flickering Glitch
Av REBDOOMER
The tendency for the 3D portion of the game to glitch out and cause black flickering while the 2D HUD elements remain static is caused by having NVIDIA's DLSS enabled in the graphics options. Disabling it will get rid of this annoyance, but if you'd prefer to run the game with DLSS working as intended then I've got the solution right here for you.

The Fix
First of all you'll need an application called DLSSTweaks, which can be downloaded here[www.nexusmods.com] from Nexus Mods.

(Note: you will need a Nexus Mods account in order to download)

Alternatively you can download it straight from GitHub here. [github.com]

Once downloaded simply open up the folder and copy all the files - we're going to want to paste them next to Red Dead Redemption 2's main executable.

Finding RDR2's main executable is easy. Simply select the game in your steam library, right click it, and look for "browse local files" under the manage section of the dropdown menu.

Now that File Explorer has opened the folder containing the main executable for us all we have to do is paste the files we copied from the DLSSTweaks download. Once that's done just click on the application called DLSSTweaksConfig in order to launch it.

All that's left to do is turn on Force Enable for the "OverrideAutoExposure" option -and voilà, you're done! JUST DON'T FORGET TO SAVE! :)

Now you can launch RDR2 as usual through Steam and fully enjoy it with DLSS enabled!

Sadly I had the same experience as HSM. It worked but microstutters began to occur

Can someone explain what's the point of installing ForceDLAA via Dlss Tweaker? That is, in this case, the Dlss - quality upscaler will work for me, but in DLAA mode ? In this case, can you just play without Dlss or does it smooth out the picture?

The guide is very useful, thanks to the author for it, but after a couple of hours of testing, I would like to make my contribution.

If you set OverrideAutoExposure to "force enable", some artifacts may appear on the screen when you aim through a sniper scope or look through binoculars in daylight (I did not notice this at night), but if you set OverrideAutoExposure to "force disable", these artifacts will disappear during the day, but at night there may be a slightly noticeable shimmering effect when using sniper scope or binoculars (this is noticeable if you look through tree branches at the sky), but it doesn't have such a harsh effect as in the case of "force enable" in daylight. So as for me, "force disable" will be better.

And I want to warn you, if your night is too dark, the picture will be greatly deteriorated and some artifacts will also appear. Therefore, I advise you not to use mods that make the night darker than in the vanilla version of the game (for example, I observed this when I used the WhyEm's Visuals mod).

So for the best result I recommend you try playing the vanilla version of the game without graphics mods and set the AutoExposure to "force disable" in DLSSTweaks.

And I want to add that I used DLSS 3.5.1, it looks better than the latest versions, in my opinion (at least the foliage on the trees does not "shake" so much in the light).

That's all, I hope it can help someone :steamhappy:

Does it matter if you play through steam or epic games?

Not only did this fix the flickering, it also fixed the issue where certain textures/lighting in the dark would become blindingly bright. Thanks for this.

It worked, but now I have a lot of random microstuttering.
