Modding Balatro [OUTDATED]

Installation guide for Balatro ModLoader and mods for Balatro.

Installation Balatro ModLoader

Steamodded is a mod loader and injector for the game Balatro.

Windows

• Classic Injector
  
  1. CLOSE THE GAME !
     
  2. Go to the release page[github.com] and download the latest release (Your aiming for the "steamodded_injector.exe" download)
     
  3. Drag and Drop your "Balatro.exe" to the executable
     
  4. Wait for it to finish
     
  5. And that's it! Balatro is now ready to be Modded.
  
  
• PowerShell Injector
  
  1. CLOSE THE GAME !
     
  2. Go to the release page[github.com] and download the latest release (Your aiming for the "steamodded_PS_injector.exe" download)
     
  3. Launch the injector
     
  4. Install 7zip when asked if necessary
     
  5. Provide game path if necessary (should be auto detected)
     
  6. And that's it! Balatro is now ready to be Modded.

Linux

1. CLOSE THE GAME !
   
2. Make sure you have python3, pip3, MPocate/PLocate, 7zip-full, and the python requests library.
   
3. run

   git clone https://github.com/Steamopollys/Steamodded.git && cd Steamodded && python3 steamodded_injector.py $($HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Balatro/Balatro.exe | head -n 1) $HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Balatro/Balatro.exe

4. Wait for it to finish
   
5. And that's it! Balatro is now ready to be Modded.

Mac

1. CLOSE THE GAME !
   
2. Make sure you have python3, pip3, MPocate/PLocate, 7zip-full, and the python requests library.
   
3. run

   git clone https://github.com/Steamopollys/Steamodded.git && cd Steamodded && python3 steamodded_injector.py

   and drag in Balatro.love from within the Package Contents of the Balatro app before hitting enter! (Should look something like

   git clone https://github.com/Steamopollys/Steamodded.git && cd Steamodded && python3 steamodded_injector.py ~/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Balatro/Balatro.app/Contents/Resources/Balatro.love

   )
4. Wait for it to finish
   
5. And that's it! Balatro is now ready to be Modded.

Steamodded installed!

Steamodded is installed and if you did everything correctly, the corresponding button should appear in the main menu.

Installing Mods

Mods for Balatro can be found on the official Balatro Discord server[discord.gg] or other third party sites.

How to Install a Mod

• Go to

  C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Balatro\Mods

  or

  %appdata%\Balatro\Mods

  (Create the "Mods" directory if necessary)
  
• On Linux it is typically

  /home/$USER/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2379780/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Balatro/Mods

• Put the mod into the directory (only the Mod File if there is only one file provided or all the files in a subdirectory)
  
• Launch the Game and enjoy!

Mods installed!

After you have uploaded the required files to the desired directory, your mods should appear in the game.

Not working. At all. There are zero guides to actually showing on how to add mods. Every guide says some bs like "it runs itself" and this guide is no exception. Why couldn't Thunk use steam workshop instead of having to learn code.

Just wanted to add onto an issue I found and resolved, I was trying to place Cryptid onto my SteamDeck and it seems to come pre-packages with an older version of Steamodded which causes a conflict with the smods-main install.

Simply delete the Steamodded folder from the ...\mods folder and this will stop the duplicate label continue crash from occurring.

I succeeded to inject Steammoded. But I couldn't activate other mods nevertheless I put mods into mods directory. Is there an appropriate file format for mods file?

The linux install instructions are no longer up to date on this page. The github page has the up to date command that needs to be run

I understand the concerns about the virus ping. I am concerned about it too. There should be a lot more reassurance than "The source code is open" since that doesn't mean a lot to the general person that just wants cool cards in their game. If you want the safest installation and all the information you need I recommend joining the discord server. They have an entire channel dedicated to modding and many of the modding devs have talked about the anti virus flag

There is a lot of talk you can look through and there is a patcher called Lovely Injector that makes the process even easier

Essentially from what i gathered Anti-viruses will flag the mod loader because it is an injector which is what most viruses do. It injects code into already established programs in order to do other things. Since the mod loader is an injector this is why it get flagged
