Video Guide
How to setup this filter on a brand new character!

Includes how to update the filter as your character levels up.

The Money Shot
The Strategy
I'm simple. Loot filters can get crazy and Last Epoch has the best built-in loot filter I've seen.

Translated: There is more than enough room to shoot yourself in the foot, the leg, and probably your other hand -- somehow.

The basis of this filter is to hide everything but what you need. So we hide the items we don't want and to rank the items we do want by color. This lets us compare gear at a glance and provides an easy framework to tune our filter as we level up and decide what kind of items we want.
  • Don't worry about selling for gold, by the time you run to the shop and sell everything, you could have advanced another half a map and made all that money back in the form of gold drops.
  • As a bonus, you don't have to sift through a pile of useless items, wooo.

Filter by the affixes you care about and use a simple color system to see how many affixes an item has. In the beginning of the game (because you're simple minded like me and don't need a build guide to enjoy a game), you'll be playing around, so you'll probably have a lot of affixes in your filter. But as you play, you'll start to hone in on what you care about.

To tune the affixes you're looking for, delete all the recolor filters except the yellow, or lowest. Update the affixes, then duplicate it and reset the colors to effectively copy the affix list to the others.

Salvage the drops you don't need to get the shards for the affixes you care about. As you level up and start getting better drops, you'll run out of money if you try to salvage all the yellow drops or will quickly run out of inventory space.
  • This is your sign to start trimming your loot filter further
  • Trim the shown item rarities (especially normal once you fill out your equipment slots and magic soon after)
  • Delete the yellow affix tier (and eventually orange when you get far enough) so you only look for red and purple drops
  • Hone in on those affixes and the type of gear you are looking for

The final part is that white filter (click the image to zoom, and sorry but that red X to close it doesn't work here).

This just highlights the exalted affix drops that you care about (tier 6 & 7 affixes) so you know to grab them for legendary crafting.

As you enter the late game, you can specialize the filters for each specific item you are farming for. Like create a set of filters for the different kinds of gloves and the specific affixes you want on them. Then create another set for your amulet and so on.

Questions? Get it? Got it? Good.
Filter to Copy
Here is the base filter that you can copy and use. The instructions are in the description, but follow along with the guide.
  • Select the Item Types you don't want to see
  • Select the affixes you want
  • Duplicate the yellow recolor to create the orange, red, pink, and white tiers

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <ItemFilter xmlns:i="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <name>WorldOverlayCanvas</name> <filterIcon>0</filterIcon> <filterIconColor>0</filterIconColor> <description>Set yellow affixes, then duplicate. Orange (2 affixes), red (3 affixes), pink (4 affixes), and white (1 affix, &gt;= Tier 6). They should really add a filter like this to the game by default to get people started

Let me know if there's interest in a deeper, advanced section on setting affix tiers and so on as you hit the mid game or how to hunt for specific items in the end game (or items for crafting legendaries with).

I'm not sure where the line is from where you go from not understanding the loot filter system to knowing enough to be dangerous where you can modify and learn on your own.

The new number thing that shows you what item is being filtered by what is helpful for learning.

Everything should be fixed now. If you see anything weird, please let me know!

And I noticed the default filter's item types are all messed up.

I'll set those to universal defaults, update the guide and filter description to include setting what you want, and re-record the setup video to include it.

Added video guide for using the filter with brand new characters! Shows how to import the filter and get the basics setup.

Great guide, still using filters based on it!

One thing to note for anyone getting confused on random items showing is that recolour is actually 'recolour and show'.

I personally went for highlighting high value affixes (level of etc.) and hiding other classes, as well as a rule to hide idols and only show the ones I'm interested in.

@Vallith so that you have a mod to scale back as you level higher/things to shatter for shards. I no longer see anything sub-exalt except for whatever affixes im trying to hunt for alts

This was very helpful, but I do wonder why you would show all normal/magic and even to a degree rare items that match the types you want? Yeah they're of the type you want, but they're also still just normal/magic items.
